1 Quick links: Whole School Peer Review One of the strengths of us being a part of a strong, teaching school alliance, is the opportunity this offers for school-to-school support. This enables us to undertake an annual review process with a team of experienced reviewers. Although this is not intended as an Ofsted style inspection, it is very rigorous and ensures that the school is working effectively to deliver excellent standards. This year we were reviewed by an experienced Ofsted inspector, a Headteacher from another alliance school and also an Associate Headteacher as an observer. Over the course of the two days, 25 part-lessons were observed as well as meetings with senior leaders, middle leaders, teaching staff and student panels. Here are some of the key messages we received in the initial feedback; They commented that the students were delightful, polite and articulate young people. Students say they feel they can thrive, they feel safe, they feel listened to, they value all the staff and are incredibly proud to belong to the school. In lessons there are high expectations, ambition and challenge. Teaching is vibrant and enthusiastic. There is a focus on building confidence through a purposeful atmosphere in classrooms. It is clear that the excellent outcomes are because of the high quality of Teaching & Learning. There is a real strength of care for students. It is a real credit to our school community that this has been recognised during such a thorough process. 2 Top 3 Top 3 things we have asked the students to reflect on this week: 1) Good luck to all our Year 11 s doing their mock exams. We know that you will do your best and we will all be supporting you. 2) Positive achievement last week we heard about the successes many students are having across school and the huge number of positives that have been awarded this term. Keep this up because your positive behaviour not only supports your success but the success of others. 3) As we enter the festive season please let s remember to look after each other. Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give. 3 Assembly Download The assemblies last week focused on positive achievement. The key facts shared in the assemblies were: Reflect on statistics from Autumn Term 1. How did you contribute? Huge amount of positives to small amount of negatives. Points for Mountain Certificates will change to 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600. Eligibility for our Rewards Days. Students must have a positive-negative ratio of 85% or above to attend. Key Stage 4 Student of the Week This week s Student of the Week is Emily Vincent. Emily consistently gives 110% effort in all lessons and is an amazing role model to other students. She helps everybody in any way she can and is a highly compassionate student Readathon Year 7 and 8 w/c 10 December Year 7 and 8 Harrogate Grammar School will be taking part in Readathon during the week commencing 10 December. Readathon is a national sponsored reading event, to encourage students to read for pleasure whilst raising funds for children in hospital. Please click here for more information. Festive Coffee Morning Tuesday 11 December On Tuesday 11 December our Sixth Form students will be hosting a Festive Coffee Morning for the local senior citizens in our community. 8 PTA News PTA Christmas Shopping Evening Thank you! Thank you to all who supported our Christmas Shopping Evening on Thursday. The event was very well attended, and the Hall looked fabulous with the huge array of festive offerings from stall holders from across Yorkshire. PTA Christmas Raffle Please return any raffle stubs and money to the PTA box (located near main reception). If you have not received tickets, or would like to purchase additional books, they are available to buy from main school reception. Any donations for the PTA Christmas Raffle can also be dropped in at school Reception. The annual PTA raffle is an important fundraiser for the school and we are very grateful to all the parents and carers who buy tickets and donate prizes. Thank you for continued support. Burns Night Supper Tickets now on sale! Tickets are NOW AVAILABLE for the Burns Night Supper on Saturday 2 February, which promises to be an excellent occasion of fun, food and frolics! With a malt whisky tasting, and supported by the PTA, this is a special event for the PE Dept to enable them to raise money to fund portable floodlights; this in turn will enable practices to continue outside in the dark nights and help ease the strain on overpopulated indoor facilities and the Astro.
