1 Sports Premium Funding (April April 2015) From September 2014 the school received 9,500 to promote sport and activity for all pupils. The school has always had a strong and dedicated commitment to sport and we have always offered a range of after school activities for pupils to join. Nevertheless, we have used the money to increase pupil activity and improve the quality of PE in the following ways: Action Cost Impact We have subscribed to Chesterfield School Sports Partnership Action Plan and Planning The Partnership conducted a thorough audit of our PE provision which informed our action plan to improve PE and activity at school. Competitive Community Sports Through the Partnership we have taken part in local tournaments and competitions, including; tennis, cricket, basketball, netball, tag rugby, athletics, quad kids, swimming and cross country running. Brockwell Badgers, through the clubs provided by BJS, have been very successful in these competitions, bringing home many certificates and trophies(see competitions board) which in turn has increased the chn s self-esteem, team work skills and raised participation from 1 team entry per event to 3 team entry. CPD SSP allows us, as co-ordinators and teachers, to access training for professional development and to access coaches for professional teaching. This provides teachers with a greater confidence and a wider subject knowledge to deliver a higher quality curriculum with a broader breadth of skills. Children in Leadership SSP has allowed us to train children to become active mini-leaders (28% of year 5 s trained), mini-motivators (6% of Year 6 trained for dance with 20 chn dancing 3

2 Enhanced Swimming - All children in year 4 and 5 to receive 15 hours of swimming. Additional lessons will be given to any children in year 6, who have not met the minimum targets. 5 extra Swimming sessions for each Y4 class Coach travel times a week impact on physical activity of girls during playtimes), sports ambassadors (6% of year 6 trained, delivering Bocce to 20 chn, including 2 wheelchair users once a week impact on inclusive sports) and change4life leaders (25% of year 5 trained, with 10 chnparticipating twice a week impact on the less active). This has not only increased the level of activity during playtimes but has also promoted leadership, building self-esteem, extending the potential of pupils in an enjoyable and fulfilling environment. Bikeability All children in year 4 given the opportunity to train to level 1 (92% uptake) with all children in year 5 being given the opportunity to train to level 2 (93% uptake). Through the partnership we have already gained the Bronze Kite Mark for PE and Sport and are now working on the Silver Kite Mark. ACTIVE TRAVEL MOVING MORE Brockwell has signed up to be a pilot school for Chesterfield s Active Travel initiative. We are only the second school to be taking part in this and the first junior school. Working closely with a large team; SSP, DCC etc. we aim to increase and sustain active travel to and from school. Our focus will be on scooting, walking and cycling. Some of the initiative to be implemented throughout May, June and July are; Active Ambassadors, JRSOs (Junior Road Safety Officers, road safety training for years 3 and 4 and Travel Smart week. We aim to achieve our Bronze Star by July. At the end of year 5 (July 2014) we have 42 out of 58 children who have met or exceeded expectations. Out of the remaining 16 pupils: 1 pupil has left, 7 can swim up to 10m and 2 are having weekly swimming lessons out of school. Booster swimming for children in year 6 who are still unable to swim 25m to be taken in the Summer term. (Taken from extra swimming sessions) Extra swimming sessions became available due to another school s cancellations. Taken to boost the Y4 swimmers, who received 5 additional 1hr lessons. Rugby coach, Phil Heath, worked alongside each class teacher for a sixweek block (Autumn Term) Tennis Coaching Paul Hatton, delivered a 6 week tennis coaching 1400 All children received quality, and participated, in rugby lessons and showed marked improvements in attacking and defending, controlled and coordinated actions and an increased ability to follow game rules and teamwork. From this, 27 children joined the rugby club ( 1 per week) and the rugby team won the local tournament, consequently they go to the county finals in May! All teaching staff say they feel more confident in delivering quality rugby lessons and have an increased understanding to the skills needed and why. Lower school coaching = All lower school children participated in high quality tennis lessons. This had a positive impact on the children s key tennis skills, provided teachers with a

4 programme to each lower school class. Year 6 children to attend coaching sessions at Chesterfield Lawn Tennis Club for a 6 week block of 1 hour long sessions) New Equipment a range of balls, cricket bats, football nets, handball nets etc Dance Winding Wheel Outdoor and Adventurous Cricket CPD External coach to teach with Y6 teachers. To deliver high quality sessions. Teachers to take an active role in delivering cricket skills during and after CPD training. Athletics CPD Sport Teacher external no cost Year 6 coaching = 400 model of high level tennis teaching to use within their own lessons and established links with the local tennis club. G&T children were identified and invited to the club for 3 free tennis lessons on full size courts. 2 teams of tennis players have been identified to represent Brockwell in the local school s competition. Historically, 1 team have been chosen. Y6 children had the opportunity to play tennis and develop skills through high quality professional teaching on full size courts. This has helped prepare them for secondary school sports Enough high quality equipment to provide each child with the opportunity to participate fully in every PE session taught. 300 coach travel 800 Subsidised day trip. 30children attended the Winding Wheel Dance festival. This encouraged self-esteem, sport for enjoyment and extended potential through performance. Of these children 10% have never danced on stage, in front of an audience before and 80% have dance once on stage before (at the infant school). 10% dance regularly with dancing schools. Year 4 visited White Hall Outdoor Education Centre. The children participated in high quality, Outdoor and Adventurous activities, including; orienteering, team building activities, ropes courses and the zip wire. Of these children 84% had never tried any of the activities, with 100% of children trying something new that day. The PE Co-ordinators helped to deliver two of these activities as part of their CPD training, which will enable them to bring the activities (skills, knowledge and equipment needed) back into school to roll out across the year groups. 300 Children used the skills they learnt in the cricket sessions to the after school cricket club. Children inspired to become part of the Brockwell Badgers team and 3 teams (2 boys teams and 1 girls team = 42% of Y6) were entered into the local school cricket tournament. Historically, 1 team has been interested. 300 Children experienced in a wide range of athletic disciplines and were able to use this within the
