Term 3, Week 8, 3 rd September, 2013 Give me the time I need to embrace the side of myself that brings joy and inspiration into the lives of others.amen Dear parents and friends, If ever you question the opportunities available to students in small schools compared to those in larger schools, don t! This week alone at St Patrick s School highlights what wonderful opportunities students in small schools have and just how our school makes the very most of those opportunities. Today all the students had the opportunity to participate in a Rugby League skills development program (in a big school this would not have been offered to all students). Following the visit by Clare Alexander last week our students are now uploading programs they have created to the Promethean Planet site and no other students have done that yet! Our Stage 3 students are working with the ICT staff at the Wilcannia- Forbes Diocese Catholic Education Office in a Google Apps pilot project. Tomorrow all of our Year 5 and 6 students will visit Red Bend Catholic College for an orientation program because St Patrick s School is a recognised feeder school for Red Bend. On Friday we have six students competing at Newcastle in the Polding Athletics Carnival, which is one of the largest numbers of competing athletes from a single school and we have one of the smallest schools in the diocese. This small school deserves it s reputation of a dynamic school! We are currently taking enrolments for the 2014 School year, to finalise staffing and school organisation. If you know of anyone planning to enrol their child for 2014 please have them contact the school as soon as possible. We will commence Term 4 interviewing those parents and students who are potential enrolments. An Orientation Program for Kindergarten students will also take place during Term 4. The parish will be celebrating the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday 15 th September. Two of our students, Ella Burke and Montana Eyre will be celebrating this important sacrament of initiation. Please keep them and their families in your prayers. 2 School Disco: The disco will be held this Thursday evening at Trundle Central School. Infants will be from pm. Primary will be from pm. The cost for all students is $2.00. There will be a supper break during the primary disco and students will be able to buy snacks and drinks from the SRC members. We thank Trundle Central School for including us in this social event. Please remember no caps are to be worn and if you were not at school on Thursday you are not allowed to attend the disco. Thursday Mass: The Parish Mass will be held in the School Hall on Thursday, at 9.00am. Stage 1 are preparing the Mass. Please join us. Garden Club Tin Man: Remember to send in your tins for the making of the Tin Man for the garden. This will be a great activity for the Garden Club. We thank Kelly-lee Dunn s father for his generosity and interest in our students. NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum: For each of the Learning Areas of the new curriculum, the Cross-Curriculum priorities provide exciting teaching and learning opportunities for both the teacher and the students. The main focus for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders histories and cultures in English is the opportunity to engage with texts that give the students experience of the beliefs and value systems, history and cultures of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Asia and Australia s engagement with Asia provides learning opportunities to explore and appreciate the rich traditions of texts from and about the people and countries of Asia, including texts written by Asian authors. An understanding of the many languages and diverse cultures, how they have influenced Australian culture, and the role Australia has played in Asia will provide a lens for learning. Students will be required to investigate and understand issues of environmental and social sustainability, to communicate information about sustainability, and to advocate action to improve sustainability. Both literature and literacy are key elements in the development of each student s worldview about sustainability and multimodal texts and the use of visual language will be important. The next Pedal Group morning will be the last Wednesday of this term: 18 th September. Everyone with babies and young children are welcome to come along and enjoy morning tea together along with play and discussion. Sport: As the weather is getting hotter, can all students have a water bottle to take to Sport on Thursdays please. Congratulations to our relay team of Jack Eyre, Sam Nixon, Tom Aveyard and Ella Burke who will be competing at Polding Athletics this Friday in the PP5 relay event. Congratulations also to Darcy Jones, Tom Aveyard, Ella Burke and Matilda Aveyard who will compete in individual track and field events at Polding Athletics. We wish them well and know they will be great ambassadors for our school and our diocese.

3 Red Bend Catholic College Orientation: Our Year 5 and 6 students will participate in an Orientation to High School Day, tomorrow, Tuesday 3 rd September. The day is open to all Year 5 and 6 students, whether they intend attending RBCC or not, so that students can experience a little of High School life. St Patrick s School is a direct feeder school for Red Bend Catholic College. Parents and Friends News: Bush Tucker Day is fast approaching and the P&F are again involved, cooking for the day. If anyone has a camp oven we can use on the day please contact the school.the P&F require helpers on the day between 11am-3pm.Thank you to all the helpers that assisted with our preparation day on Sunday your time and support is much appreciated. The P&F Committee are planning to hold a dinner in the newly renovated School Hall at the end of this term. We are just waiting for the new floorcovering to completed before we know further details. The P&F are looking for more donations of ewes for the school s flock of sheep. Please contact Geoff Jones if you can help with this. A Bike-a-thon will be held Week 1 of Term 4.
