2 From the Principal s Desk I oen say that being the principal of Woodridge North is the best job in the world. This week I was the fortunate recipient of some s that reminded me once again of how lucky we all are to belong to the Woodridge North team. One of these s read : Lastly, The Queensland Government is undertaking a review of NAPLAN in the Queensland context, to be(er understand the impacts NAPLAN is having on learning and teaching within the state. The first stage of the Review, conducted in June 2018, focused on consulta0on with parents. The second stage is now underway, with consulta0on extending to students, teachers, principals and other key educa0on stakeholders across Queensland. Queensland students in years 3 to 10 are now invited to provide feedback on their experiences with NAPLAN, via an online survey. Students wishing to par0cipate will require the consent of a parent or carer, who can assist with comple0ng the survey at home. The survey link is available at h(ps://survey.lsia.com.au/s3/2018naprevstudent This project has received ethical clearance from both the Australian Catholic University and the Department of Educa0on. If the girls can manage a placing at this carnival they will earn selec0on in the Met East Team to compete at the Qld State Carnival in Cairns later this year. SWIMMING Please return money and forms for the Year 3 Swimming Program as soon as possible. The cut off date for payments can t be extended as buses and swimming instructors need to be booked. Prep 2019 We are currently taking enrolments for Prep If you have a child who is turning 5 before June please see our office for an enrolment pack. We will be conduc0ng Prep interviews on October 25 and 26 and there will be a Get Ready For Prep Program run by our Community Hub.

4 Canberra Camp 2018 Canberra In week four, thirty-four Year 5 and 6 students went to Canberra. We had a great five days. We began in Sydney. At the Na0onal Mari0me Museum, we saw a replica of the Endeavour, then we learnt about the convicts at Hyde Park Barracks. When we were in Canberra, we did many exci0ng ac0vi0es, including going to Questacon, playing in the snow and bowling while also learning a lot of interes0ng facts and historical stories at places like the Na0onal Museum, Na0onal Portrait Gallery and the Australian War Memorial. All the kids and teachers enjoyed Canberra. Perisher was where the snow was. As soon as we got there, we decided to go up the ski li. The kids seemed to enjoy that a lot. We then went tobogganing and went down the tube slides. At Questacon, we all learnt a lot about physics and math. All the kids seemed to enjoy spending 0me with their friends. Everyone learnt about Parliament, Government and elec0ons at New and Old Parliament H. In the end we all had a wonderful 0me. I bet we would all like to go there again! Thanks to Mrs Campbell, Mrs Everson and Miss Courtney for taking 0me away from their families and organising the whole trip. By Cooper and Jemma. Prep - Year 3 Book Week Parade and Mul)cultural Day We will be holding our book week parade on Friday 14 September in the hall at 8:45. Prep to Year 3 are welcome to come dressed as their favourite book character. Our annual Mul)cultural Day will be held on Thursday the 20 th September, (the second last day of school this term).

5 Runcorn State High School Enrolments for Year 7 in 2019 at Runcorn State High School are Closing on 15 October 2018 If you are planning on enrolling your Year 6 students into Runcorn State High School in 2019 you must have your Expression of Interest Form completed and returned with Semester 1 Report Card, Birth Cer)ficate and, where appropriate, Visa and Passport to Runcorn State High School by 15 October. Class placements will be commencing in prepara)on for Enrolment Informa)on Evening, Orienta)on Day and Enrolment Interviews later in Term 4. Last opportunity for Scholarship Applica)ons. If your student excels in music, sport or academically you may wish to consider a scholarship. Informa)on and applica)on forms can be found on the school s Webpage. Applica)ons close on 28 September, Woodridge North is turning 50! Woodridge North State School was officially opened in 1969, this means in 2019 we turn 50!! We would love to hear from you. Students have been coming in with their classes this term to borrow books. Please ensure your child brings their library bag and book on their library day. The library borrowing schedule is as follows: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday 2M 6C 4G 5K 1F 5B 6E 2O 3S 3Z 6W 5A 3L 3D 1G 4C 2T 1S 4P We have also recommenced lunch 0me library ac0vi0es, children can come to the library at first break for story 0me, colouring in and quiet reading. At second break there are puzzles, blocks and quiet reading. On Thursday and Friday we have fun cras ac0vi0es during second break. We encourage students to read during lunch breaks, those who do will receive a Gotcha. At the end of the week, all the Gotchas will go into a draw to win a new library bag!
