1 YOUR CHILD, YOUR SCHOOL, YOUR COMMUNITY 45 Thomas Street Boyanup WA 6237 Telephone (08) Absentee SMS Principal: Mr Justin Grasso Issue No: 4 March 20th 2018 Harmony Day 2018 On Thursday the 22 nd of March the staff and students will celebrate Harmony Day commencing with a special assembly presented by students from TA03 at 9.00am and followed by various activities conducted in classrooms. Harmony Day celebrates the fact that Australians come from all over the world. Today there are over 21 million people living in Australia who all contribute different ideas, religions, languages and customs to our country. The diversity of people who live in Australia make it such an interesting and special place to live. It is celebrated around Australia each year to acknowledge our multicultural society. Students are encouraged to wear something orange or wear customary clothes that represent their family heritage. The school canteen will be providing a variety of foods from around the world for a special Harmony Day lunch on Friday. We began our multi-cultural journey between to years ago with our Aboriginal Australians whose artistic, musical and spiritual traditions are among the longest surviving traditions in human history. Since then, seven million migrants have made Australia their home and with them came their own language, lifestyle, artistic and spiritual traditions. You are invited to attend our Harmony Day Assembly on Thursday 22 nd March starting at 9.00am Faction Sports Carnival Next week our Faction Teams Red Gum and Preston, will again be battling it out to be the winning Athletics Faction team for It will all start on Tuesday 27th March with the Long Distance events, Jumps and Throws. The main carnival being held on the Thursday 29th March, commencing from 9.00am with the traditional faction march. There will be no canteen operating on the carnival day, allowing everyone to be available to watch the children compete and to enjoy the day so don t forget your picnic lunch!! Icy Poles will be on sale at lunchtime so please bring your spare change! For our students, please don t forget to wear your faction sports shirt and to be Sun Smart during the carnival and drink plenty of water. Mr J. Grasso Principal Page 1
2 Easter Break - Important Dates Good Friday 30 th March - Students do not Attend Saturday / Sunday 31st March & 1 st April Easter Monday 2 nd April - Students do not Attend Tuesday 3 rd April - Students do not Attend Wednesday 4 th April Students resume at School Tuesday 27 th March 2018: Faction Athletics Carnival 2018 REDGUM v s PRESTON Long Distance events 400m & 800m, from 9am. All students are expected to participate unless they have a medical reason. Long Jump, Triple Jump and Throwing, from 11am selected students. Parents are welcome to watch throughout the day, please come through front office. Thursday 29 th March 2018 Marching at 9am Main Carnival Please Note: All students will be required to wear their faction shirt. These are available to purchase from the front office if you do not already have one. A selection of hair accessories in faction colours, are also available to buy, if you wish at $5 each (cash only from front office). All students must remain in their bays throughout the day. children will remain with their teacher throughout the day unless alternative arrangements are approved with the teacher. The Early Childhood play area will be off limits as the class will still be operational. Please bring a picnic lunch - the canteen will not be operating. A coffee van will visit from 10.30am. Icy poles will be available to purchase at lunchtime only. The Easter Raffle will be drawn at the conclusion of the carnival. Tickets will be available to purchase during the day. Page 2

The Pre Primaries have been busy working on their Mother s Day presents here is a sneak peak! Shh Aren t they beautiful! Children designed, made and appraised bunny houses as part of their STEM projects. Balloon Rocket Cars The Year 1 children had great fun building and testing their balloon rocket cars created with Mr Dixon in STEM. Page 3
4 Vegie Patch Produce The school vegetable patch has been well loved and looked after by Linda and the Pre Primary children. The recent harvest of pumpkins is for sale for a gold coin donation. These are located outside the Pre Primary classroom. The money raised from selling our produce goes towards the Waste Wise program. Easter Raffle A big thank you to everyone who has donated beautiful Easter items and chocolates for our raffle! Please drop any donations in by Monday 26th March The more we receive in donations, the more prizes that will be available. Last year we had 14 prizes!! There are still tickets available in the front office if you can sell them! Coles Sports for Schools Coles Sports for Schools vouchers can be dropped into the school office or dropped into our box in front of the store (box only at Coles, The Park Centre) School Banking Friday mornings - School Office am New students are welcome to sign up for school banking. 5 Community News The Cardinals Junior Football Club are seeking players For their Year 4 team (Year 3's welcome too!). If your child's keen please register them at: with the Cardinals Junior Football Club. For more information, please contact Dan Depiazzi on Boyanup Junior Hockey Club are seeking players to Year 12 for the upcoming season which commences after the April school holidays. All games are played at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium. For to Year 8, games are played Saturday mornings and Year 9 to Year 12 play Wednesday evenings. Training is held at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium for Year 3 to Year 8 every Tuesday. Year 9 to Year 12 train with the seniors.
