The significance of celebrating and remembering the Anzacs who fought at Gallipoli is not just about remembering that one battle where so many Australians fought and died.

It is a time to remember the gift of life and freedom that earlier Australians gave to us by their sacrifices and some by the sacrifice of their lives.

St Clare s will be participating in the march and commemoration service this Saturday. Students are asked to meet near the Westpac Bank in the main street at 9:30am.

As this is the centenary of Anzac Day I would like to encourage as many students as possible to participate in this march.

As part of the Church's Easter liturgy on the Saturday evening Aileen L Aimable (a school parent) as well as her 2 children Douglas who is in Prep and Andre were baptised into the Church. Aileen participated in the Parish RCIA program throughout the Lenten season. Congratulations! I would also like to welcome Aileen into the school for the next 8 weeks. Aileen will be working in Year 5 as part of her teaching practicum. This week is a special occasion for our nation as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli. The significance of celebrating and remembering the Anzacs who fought at Gallipoli is not just about remembering that one battle where so many Australians fought and died. Anzac Day is a time to honour all those who have fought in wars throughout our nation's history. It is a time to remember the gift of life and freedom that earlier Australians gave to us by their sacrifices and some by the sacrifice of their lives. It is also an opportunity for us as a nation to reflect spiritually on our life s journey, as we prayerfully thank God for the Anzacs and all who have given their lives for this country. St Clare s will be participating in the march and commemoration service this Saturday. Students are asked to meet near the Westpac Bank in the main street at 9:30am. Students participating in the march with the school are asked to wear their sports uniform. The march will commence at about 10am. As this is the centenary of Anzac Day I would like to encourage as many students as possible to participate in this march. TERM 2 WEEK 1 21st April, 2015 District Touch Football At the end of last term a touch football carnival was held at the showgrounds. We had 4 teams from St Clare s and the students from these teams all did very well. Thank you to the parents who helped manage the teams and also thank you to the teachers Chris Smith, Chelsy Gaskell and Jo Wall who helped manage and organise the teams. Thank you also to Jane Berge who organised the District Sports Association Raffle and also thank you to the St Clare s parents who worked in the tuckshop throughout the day. A special thank you to Cherie Jenkins for organising the carnival on behalf of the district. Cherie spent many hours in preparation for the day. Her efforts were much appreciated. From this carnival a boys and a girls squad was chosen to participate in further trials to select the District boys and girls teams to participate in the Peninsula touch football trials to be held later in the term. Congratulations to the following students who were selected in these squads: Ben Smith, Matthew Langdon, Harry Raiti, Angus Gilbert, Lucy Berge, Jasmine Sichter, Scarlett Jackson, Kate Crema, Melody Smith and Fiona Giblin. I would like to thank Chris Smith for agreeing to coach the District Boys team. Have a good week Greg Hoare Principal OUTSTANDING SCHOOL FEES TERM ONE 2015 Payment of outstanding fees would be appreciated as soon as possible. Term 2 fees will be sent out in the next few weeks. Please contact the principal if you have any issues of concerns. The term ahead will be quite busy. Some of the highlights include: NAPLAN testing for years 3 and 5, camps for years 4 and 5, the Prep to year 3 reading day, the school athletics carnival as well as the end of semester reports. A term calendar has been attached with this newsletter. Parents & Friends Meeting There will be a Parents and Friends Meeting on Wednesday evening commencing at 7pm. The meeting will take place in the meeting room near the main office. We are actually still in the Easter season, a time when we continue to celebrate the Risen Jesus. SEL Student of the Week TERM ONE WEEK 10 Over the course of the next few years, Australia will continue to commemorate the Anzac Centenary, marking 100 years since our nation s involvement in the First World War; this year is the official 100 th Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. This Saturday let us pray A Prayer of Remembrance Lord God, help us to remember the sacrifice of the first ANZACs, Australian and New Zealander, and the generations of men, women and children who have died in the cause of liberty and peace. Help us to remember those who still bear the physical and mental scars and disabilities of their service. Help us to remember the widows, girlfriends, parents and orphans and all those who waited in vain for the return of a loved one. Help us to remember the mateship, agony, courage and compassion of war service, but save us from ever glorifying the horror and tragedy of war. Lord God, help us to remember. Amen Special Parade Friday 24 th April This Friday the Year 3 class are hosting a very special ANZAC Parade. To celebrate ANZAC Day we would like to invite those students who have special family medallions/uniforms from war service to wear them or bring them along to school on this day. If your child/ children are willing to speak about the items on parade that would be great also. Sharing your family history in regards to something so important would be a great honour for us all. It is common for children to experience setbacks, unwanted challenges, failures and even difficulties at home and at school. Resilience is the ability to take control of self during difficult situations, failures, challenges, and setbacks. Resilient children are those who are able to effectively handle any pressure and get things done, despite obstacles. ( SCHOOL ASSEMBLY THIS FRIDAY at 8.40am Presented by: Yr 3 All parents and friends are invited to attend. Over the course of this term, I am going to insert information on Resilience in terms of parent tips, education and research. The information presented will be sourced from a range of sources and hopefully it may be useful. As you are already aware all classes each term are taught 0.5hr explicit Social and Emotional Learning lessons through the You Can Do It Program. This term our focus will be on Emotional Resilience and Persistence.

3 Uniform Survey Thanks to the 22 families who have responded to the Uniform Survey sent out at the end of last term. To ensure a fair survey we are extending the time to Friday 24 th April and urge all families to respond no matter how simple it may be! If it is more convenient, please your ideas to: cjenkins@cns.catholic.edu.au INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS - TERM 2 Music Lesson Slips were given to those students who attended music lesson last term. It is important that parents notify the school office if their child is not attending music lessons this term. All music slips and money are to be returned by next music lesson on Tuesday, 28th April. See Attachments - > NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY Letter > TUCKSHOP MENU TERM 2 > CALENDAR TERM 2 > KIDS MATTER - Managing life s up & downs On the last day of Term 1, 45 boys and girls from St. Clare s attended the Tully District Touch Football Carnival at the Tully Showgrounds. We nominated a boys and girls team in both the A Grade and B Grade competitions. It was a very hot and humid day and we were so proud of the skill and sportsmanship shown by our students. The boys and girls in the B Grade competition, who were mostly from Years 4 and 5, improved incredibly throughout the day due to excellent coaching they received from Anthony Emmi, Steve Crema, Celia McNamara and Mrs Wall. Our A Grade boys and girls played some fantastic and entertaining touch football and both won their division. We thank Mrs Gaskell, Mr Smith & Jo Sichter for their wonderful coaching efforts as well! A huge THANKYOU to Jenny Crema and all the families that supported and assisted the tuckshop. Your efforts have helped to raise approximately $800 for our P&F! Another huge THANKYOU to Jane Berge and Nancy Marsilio who organized and sold tickets for the Tully District Primary Sports Committee s major fundraiser for the year. Their efforts raised approximately $2000 to enable these great sports events to be held for our students. Selections were made on the day for a training squad to select a District Team to compete in Gordonvale in June. A team will be determined at the first training session so as to be able to include the 12 year olds at Tully State High School. The children invited to attend from St. Clare s were; Lucy Berge, Kate Crema, Jasmine Sichter, Scarlett Jackson, Melody Smith, Fiona Giblin, Ben Smith, Matthew Langdon, Angus Gilbert and Harry Raiti. It is really important that all of our tuckshop volunteers be trained in preparing food under our new menu. This training session will be held this Friday from 9.30am 12.00pm. Tuckshop Roster for Term 2 were given out today - please check that your child received one if you are a tuckshop volunteer. New Look Tuckshop Menu attached. Tuckshop will commence this Friday New menu training for volunteers will be operating tuckshop.
