We are hoping that her family enjoy their involvement with our school. ASSEMBLY AND SWIMMING ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Congratulations to the students who received Student of the Week awards, merit awards and bronze awards. Our strong team of Belrose PS swimmers were presented their ribbons with most of these students representing our school at the Zone carnival next Monday. PEER SUPPORT We began our first peer support meeting with year 6 students facilitating sessions with multi-aged groups of about 8-10 students from Kindergarten to Year 5. The program will empower our young students to support each other and our year 6 students to develop key skills of assertiveness, decision making, problem solving and leadership SELECTIVE HIGHSCHOOL TESTS Applicants for Year 7 placement in a selective high school are required to take the test at Davidson HS on Thursday 15 March from 9.00am to 1.30pm. LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAMS AT BELROSE PS Assessments of Kindergarten and newly enrolled students from non- English backgrounds have been undertaken. These students receive specialised support from our Learning Support Teacher, Mrs Cohen. Additional students have been identified and are receiving additional intensive support most mornings within our mini-lit and multi-lit reading program from parent volunteers. Mrs Cohen s support also includes withdrawal groups, in class support and team teaching with the class teacher. We have four support teachers throughout the week who work alongside the teachers. Thank you to the parents who attended our Review meetings during the last few weeks. Mrs Jennifer Lawrence is our new counsellor who is working each Tuesday at Belrose PS.

3 ICAS Belrose Public School is providing the opportunity for students in Years 3-6 to participate in the International Competitions in Computers, English, Mathematics and Science. Each test will be conducted at school under normal examination conditions. Please note that these tests will be administered before school, beginning at 7:45am on the allocated day. Please refer to the note. Please return permission notes and make payment by the closing date of Thursday 15 March. No late entries can be accepted. NEW SCHOOL ZONE FINES Belrose PS has a Kiss and Drop Zone from 7:30am-9:30am on Ralston Avenue. Police, periodically, make visits to schools and we do not want you to get booked. We were recently sent some information regarding new parking laws around schools which are designed to make children safe in and around school zones. Under the changes, if a driver commits these offences in a school zone, these fines apply. 1. Stopping in intersection - $439 and 2 demerit points. 2. Stop within 20m of intersection (traffic lights) - $439 and 2 demerit points. 3. Stop within 10m of intersection (no traffic lights) - $439 and 2 de-merit points. 4. Stop near bicycle crossing lights - $439 and 2 demerit points. 5. Obstruct access to ramp/path/passageway - $330 and 2 demerit points. 6. Not parallel park in the direction of travel - $330 fine and 2 demerit points. 7. Parallel park close to dividing line - $330 fine and 2 demerit points. The challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for pleasure and to enable students to experience quality literature. More information can be found on the Premier's Reading Challenge website. Allambie Heights PS. Yesterday I attended a meeting at Allambie Heights PS. The author was Louise Park who has spoken at Belrose PS. Some ladies from The Northern Beaches Council Libraries spoke and discussed some of their libraries including the new library at Glen St. They alerted us to the many services they provide. This is a great resource for our students. A speaker from the Harry Hartog bookshop in Warringah Mall spoke about some of the latest titles they have, which would be suitable for our students to purchase. I encourage you to go and have a look. K.Wedlock Teacher-librarian CHOIR 2018 All students who LOVE to sing in years 2 to 6 come and join us on Wednesday mornings, 8am in the school Library Mrs Cohen, Mrs Thoroughgood and Mrs Jones

4 PAGE 4 Over the past few weeks Stage 1 have enjoyed learning how to program our robotic cars - Probots. Lessons have revolved around measuring, estimating distances, angles and using 'repeat' coding functions. The students have had great fun following tracks and racing each other to the finish line! Stages 2 and 3 have been busy learning how to drive & code the Sphero robotics. We even managed to create our own Olympic games 'ice-rink' and students coded a routine for their Sphero to compete in Figure Skating. Our students became very creative using the various movements, sounds and colour options to recreate spins, back flips & even a triple axle!

7 PAGE 7 Sport News PSSA SUMMER COMPETITION THIS WEEK Cricket Belrose vs Terrey Wyatt Oval Softball & T-Ball Belrose vs Terrey Belrose Public School CRICKET SENIOR Last Friday we had a great game and we won by 30 runs. We were very enthusiastic. We played Allambie Heights, they were very good in their fielding. Player of the match was Charlie B. By Lachlan D CRICKET JUNIOR Everyone was cheering the batters saying come on you can hit it!. The game was great. In the end we lost by one little tiny run. The score was Belrose 4/49 and Allambie Heights 8/50. By Mika L SOFTBALL A On Friday 2 March the Softball A team played against Allambie Heights and we had a smashing game. The score was 9/3 to Belrose. Player of the match was Ellen W. By Isla H SOFTBALL B Allambie Heights was an amazing team. The score was 2-2. It was a great game. Player of the match was Jess B for her amazing pitching and she got three people out in a row. By Chloe W T-BALL A The T-ball A team had a fantastic game on 2 March against Allambie Heights. The score was 21-1 to Belrose. Charli V got an amazing catch and the team got 3 people out with that one catch. The whole team was trying so hard. Ruby S sadly could not play but she was cheering so loudly and helping with the batting order. She was great! Player of the match was Sara D. She tried so hard and did some great hits. By Olivia P T-BALL B Last Friday we played really well and the score was We won! The player of the match was Nyzarel, she was quick to the ball and supported the team well. Jo Stracey CANTEEN Early lunch orders: A black letterbox has been placed on the brick wall at the front of the canteen. This can be used by those students who have PSSA early on Friday mornings and aren't able to place their lunch order in the class basket. Please make sure the class and name is clearly written on the lunch bag to ensure it's placed in the correct class basket for pick up. Man night is on again in its 6th year Date: Friday 9 March from 5pm Belrose Bowling Club in the back room $40 per dad $10 for man food and $30 donation to P&C All money raised is used on the kids at our school.
