1 The Berkley Times 26thMay 2017 Collective Worship The collections at our service amounted to 2.15 & Thank you to all who sent in contributions. Could we ask if the children could bring in a small donation every week. We use the church at least twice a week and the funds go towards the upkeep and heating for the church. Our assembly is now on a FRIDAY for collections. Mr White used the song Jesus Love is very Wonderful. The children listened well, sang and joined in the prayers. It was a happy atmosphere listening to the recorders. 2 Headteacher s Blog When you receive this, the children will be with you for the half-term break which, no doubt, they will enjoy let s hope the weather behaves. This has been yet another action-packed half-term: Last week, it was Badgers turn to share their work in the Celebratory assembly, which featured impressive extended writing and delightful Art work. On Wednesday, Mrs Langton and Mrs Hardwick attended a moderation meeting which involved some staff from each local school. On Thursday, the children enjoyed the American theme for lunches and on Friday, Badgers visited the Apple store in Bath. This week, we had the school photographs on Monday (our thanks to Mrs Painter and Mrs Powell for taking these) and Squirrels shared their wonderful good work in the Celebratory Assembly. On Wednesday, Year 4 visited Selwood to receive a historical presentation on World War I and yesterday our co-chairs attended an FLP meeting where we updated chairs of governors from each local school with information about how the schools have worked together this year, such as through moderation, intervisiting, transition and support for each other. Today (Friday) I held my Meet and Greet session with parents. Over the last three weeks, our Year Two children have been taking their SATs papers in Reading, Writing and Numeracy. I have been extremely impressed with their focus and indeed the progress each child has made since the start of the year. We look forward to greeting the pupils back on Monday 5 th June. Date for your Diary - Parents are invited to our Community Day on Wednesday 28th June. Join us for Sports day, a Picnic and Classroom activities. Details to follow. A couple of reminders You will have received a mailchimp message about the latest school craze of Fidgets. Just to reiterate, we do not allow them in school as they are a distraction and indeed can be dangerous, as the news highlighted recently with a child swallowing a piece of the Fidget. I thank you for your support in not allowing your child to bring one to school, which would be confiscated and returned to you, the parent. Our school attendance record currently stands at 95.75% for the year, which is not as high as we would like. May I remind you that holidays are supposed to be taken out of school terms. Please write to me if your child will be out of school before the end of term so a decision can be made whether or not this absence will be authorised or unauthorised. The guidelines I have to follow are that holidays are unauthorised, unless there are strong, mitigating circumstances. Thank you for your understanding. School Funding Cuts Your child has been given a flyer to give to you regarding education cuts. I would like to emphasise that we are not promoting the views of one particular union - rather, this is a common message from all unions and indeed all schools about the cuts to school budgets. As stated in a previous newsletter, through careful husbandry, we do not need to cut staffing but we are pared to the bone. We do appreciate your understanding and willingness to fund school trips, swimming lessons etc. TUESDAY 13th JUNE This is an ideal time to start sorting out extra storage/cupboard space ready for the Summer. Please can you recycle any of the following items such as, adult and children s clothing, bedding but not quilts, soft toys, paired shoes, hats, belts and handbags. Please put items in bag provided and bring them into school first thing on Tuesday 13th June so that they are ready for collection. If you require additional bags please call into the office or you can use standard black sacks. Unfortunately we have no storage facilities so therefore cannot store them before this date.

Team games will be available for you at a small cost. You can either create your own team of up to 5 children and 1 Adult ( 6) or pay 1 and we can put you in a team. Please note the Team games are optional. Payment for whole teams are available to pay on Parent Pay or you can just pay on the day. We have some great raffle prizes including a Center Parcs Day voucher Family tickets to Haynes Motor Museum Family tickets Family photographic sittings for Barrett and Coe Writhlington Leisure soft play vouchers and a Jamie Oliver cookbook from Hunting Raven. Donations of Wine, Chocolates and gift sets would be gratefully received for our raffle and any donations of cakes would also be great.
5 Year 3 were making films and using their skills to create a virtual tour of the school for the web site. We learn lots of wonderful things in our Church Assemblies but most of all we have lots of fun! The Life Education Bus was very exciting!
