I hope you had an enjoyable holiday break with your family and friends. During the break Parkmore Primary hosted staff from across the country and abroad for a Visible Wellbeing Summit. Participating staff shared their experiences in the first year of the Visible Wellbeing partnership with Professor Lea Waters and her team. As Parkmore embarks on its first year in 2018 it was fascinating hearing from other schools and the benefits the partnership has brought to their students and staff. Also during the break, Adrienne and I delivered a workshop at the Positive Education in Schools Association (PESA) National Conference at Geelong Grammar. Adrienne and I stayed on site for the three days of the conference and were impressed by the quality of the program as well as the feedback we received on our presentation. Speaking of positive feedback, our 25 visitors from Hong Kong were so impressed by students and staff during their visit last Wednesday 18 April. The teachers, principals, researchers and educational psychologists visited Parkmore to learn more about our Positive Education program. School Captains, Mia and Ryker welcomed our guests and house captains toured groups around the school. The children spoke so eloquently and enthusiastically about their school and the visitors were visibly impressed. Following their visit the group toured Forest Hill College. Thank you to Mrs Baucke for coordinating this very successful professional exchange.

2 Principal's Comments Fun Run The Whole School Colour Fun Run was a perfect way to send off a wonderful term one. The zest and playfulness on display by all members of the school community made for an enjoyable event. We are grateful for all the families and school community members that donated money. At the time of press the amount we raised was over two and a half thousand dollars. Particular thanks to the parent volunteers running the barbeque as well as supporting the children on the track. Huge thanks to Mr B for running the event. Coles Sports for Schools What an amazing effort by our school community collecting vouchers for the Coles Sports for Schools campaign. We collected over 16,500 vouchers and now SRC will lead students through the process of selecting resources for our school. Thank you so much; your efforts make all the difference. 3 Principal's Comments Annual Report to School Community 2017 On Monday afternoon I presented the Annual Report to the School Community. The purpose of the annual report to the school community is to inform parents and the wider school community of the school's successes, activities and achievements throughout the year. We have much to celebrate as our students continue to achieve high academic learning growth and demonstrate their love of school with exceptional attendance rates. The Report will be published on the school s website in a few weeks. REMINDER - ICAS 2018 You should have received a note home this week regarding ICAS tests. Please note the Learning Resources levy must have been made for students to sit this test. If you have yet not paid the levy and you elect to have your child sit the test the 20 dollar entry fee must be received no later than May 4. We cannot extend this deadline NEVR Youth Concert - Tributes We are excited to share that Amy J. of Year 4 has been accepted to play violin in the ensemble orchestra in the North Eastern Region schools youth concert. Amy will perform in Melbourne's premier performance venue, Hamer Hall on Tuesday 22 May at 7.30 pm. 4 School Captains Report School Captains Report Report 4 Power of One On Thursday the whole school was involved in the Power of One incursion. We had Caroline and Max role play to us scenarios about bullying. They helped us with different situations we may be involved in and how to solve them. Even though most of us already understand bullying I bet each one of us learnt something from the incursion. All of us were involved in the role play which was heaps of fun. We learnt that anyone can stand up to a bully and there are five steps that can always help. Always tell a trusted adult even if a bully threatens you, anyone can help! Shrine excursion level 5/6 On Friday the 20th of April, the 5/6 s got a chance to go to the Shrine of Remembrance. This excursion was to acknowledge the men and women who served our country in the wars. As School Captains we got a once in a lifetime experience of laying a wreath on behalf of Parkmore Primary School. This was such a proud and exciting experience for us. We got to watch the Return Servicemen march and many representatives talk. It was such a awesome opportunity to be able to actually get the chance to visit the Shrine. After the service we had lunch at the Botanical Gardens, then we got the chance actually to go into the Shrine and the Shrine Visitor Centre. This was such an honourable and exciting excursion! 7 Library BOOK DRIVE Give your outgrown books a new home! What an amazing response we received for our book drive A big thank you to the community for your support! It will take some time for all books to be catalogued and covered but the library will soon be overflowing with new books and duplicated copies of your favourite and popular titles, some may even be located in classrooms.
