1 CCC Heep Woh College Monthly School Report November First Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) Meeting On 7 th November, Supervisor Professor Shum Kwok Yan Daisy chaired the first IMC Meeting of this academic year. We discussed the Annual School Report and Financial Report, the Annual School Plan and other routine items. 2. Third Meeting of School Administration Committee On 10 th November, I chaired the 3 rd meeting of the School Administration Committee. Besides reviewing the activities in October, we discussed issues including S.4 Life Education Camp, listening to students' voices, searching for teachers' timetables on Heep Woh Net and other school routines. 3. PTA Executive Committee Meeting On 11 th November afternoon, I attended a meeting called by the Chairlady of the 20 th PTA Executive Committee. The committee discussed matters about the PTA picnic and the planning of some other PTA activities this year. 4. Visit to Guangzhou Xie He Middle School for the 105 th Anniversary Celebration From 12 th to 13 th November, Mr. Fung Wah Sing (Vice Principal), Ms. Tin Yuen Shan (Assistant Principal), Ms. Keung Woon Hang (Parents Affairs Committee Chairlady), Ms. Chan ST (ECA Mistress), Mr. Tse Sik Wai (Chinese Language Department Head), Ms. Kwok Sai Ming (PE Department Head), Ms. Mo Hoi Ting, Ms. Au Hau Yee, student leaders and I visited Guangzhou Xie He Middle school to attend the 105 th anniversary activities. The student leaders of our both schools met and exchanged their experience in organizing activities. 5. Visit by the Principal and Teachers of Malaysia Union School On 15 th November after school, Principal Ms. Loh Yat Cheng and senior teachers of Malaysia Union School visited our school to learn about the Hong Kong Education System and establish collaboration in the near future. 6. School Picnic On 18 th November, our school organized the annual School Picnic, which allows teachers and students to go to the countryside to enjoy the natural atmosphere and refresh our souls and 1
2 minds. 7. Parents Companion Volunteer Scheme Our school co-organized with Heep Woh Church and Youth Global Network of Breakthrough Organization the Parents Companion Volunteer Scheme to build up a team of parent volunteers to serve as companions with other parents. On 19 th November afternoon, Jess (Ms. Chan Tsz Shan, a parent worker from Youth Global Network of Breakthrough Organization) kicked off the scheme to train up parents to become helping companions for other parents. 8. Second Staff Meeting On 23 rd November, I chaired the 2nd Staff Meeting. We discussed issues including the arrangement of 45 th Anniversary and other school routines. 9. Invitation to talk to Parents of Canossa Primary School (San Po Kong) On 25 th November afternoon, I was invited to give a talk to the parents of Canossa Primary School (San Po Kong) to introduce our school. About 100 parents attended the talk. 10. School Information Day On 26 th November, our school organized an Information Day to introduce our school to P.6 students and their parents in the district. There were two sessions: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. A total number of 1,200 participants attended the event. Talks were organized to introduce our school s history, characteristics, focuses, expectations of our students, measures to adapt to S1 school life, and introduction of NSS Curriculum and admission criteria. 11. The 44 th Athletic Meet On 29 th and 30 th November, the 44 th Athletic Meet was held at Hammer Hill Sports Ground. At the Kick-off Ceremony, I implied Athletic Meet was a way of learning. Mr. Lung Chi Fai Andrew, the former elite athlete (Chinese Marital Arts) of Hong Kong Sport Development Board, was invited to be our honorable guest to present prizes in the ceremony. 12. Report from Subject Departments English Department In order to create an English-rich environment for students to learn and use English, the following activities were organized for students in November. (2) The Mathematics Society organized an activity Monthly Mathematics Challenge to arouse students interest in Mathematics. The winners for November were 4E Yeung Shing Hin and 1A Wong Yik Tung Daniel. (3) On 22 nd November, a selection test for recruiting junior form high achievers in Mathematics was successfully held. 30 S.1 S.3 students joined the test. 4 students were selected from each form to be recruited to participate in the 16 th Pui Ching Mathematics Competition in January,
4 (4) On 23 rd and 24 th November after school, Mock Mathematics papers were given to S.6 students to allow them to gain more experience in various types of questions. The questions were provided by Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company. (5) On 9 th and 21 st November after school, tutorial classes for S.1 low achievers were organized by Ms. Lam Yan Chi and Mr. Li Wang Kin. The lessons were delivered by Vice-Principal Mr. Fung Wa Sing and Mr. Wong Wai Yip. (6) On 17 th and 24 th November after school, tutorial classes for S.4 low achievers were organized by Mr. Lee Shing Foon. The lessons were delivered by Alumnus Lee Wang Foon. (7) On 17 th November after school, tutorial classes for S.5 low achievers were organized by Mr. Lee Shing Foon. The lessons were assisted by Mr. Li Wang Kin. (8) On 9 th and 21 st November after school, tutorial classes for S.6 low achievers were organized by Ms. Chu Ka Man. The lessons were delivered by Alumnus Chow Chun Ngai. (9) On 24 th November after school, Mathematics Club organized Tangram Competition to arouse students interest in Figures. 42 students participated in the competition. (10) On 26 th November, 4 S.4 students were nominated to participate in the Mathematics Competition organized by True Light Girls College. (11) Professional Development Activity/Activities: On 15 th November, Mr. Li Wang Kin and Ms. Chu Ka Man attended a briefing session of HKDSE Mathematics Examination Questions Analysis. (12) Others Mr. Wong Wai Yip from the Faculty of Education, the University of Hong Kong served as a student teacher from 31 st October to 10 th December. Mr. Li Wang Kin and Ms. Lam Yan Chi were his mentors. Chemistry Department (Science KLA) (1) Nine S.4 gifted science students entered the Piloting Scheme for Secondary Schools Dual Program organized by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. They will study the Accelerated Matching Program in Secondary School Levels on Science subjects in the coming six months. (2) A team of four S.5 Chemistry students was accepted to join the Energy Innovation Competition organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and Hong Kong China Light and Power. (3) A team of five S.5 Chemistry students was accepted to join the My Green Space Green Building Competition organized by the Hong Kong Green Building Council. (4) On 26 th November, two S.5 Chemistry students attended the visit and workshop on the topic of My Green Space organized by the Hong Kong Green Building Council. (5) Twelve S.4 and S.5 Chemistry students were nominated to join the Science Discovery Day Camp organized by the HKU Science Outreach Team. (6) Four S.5 Chemistry students were recruited to join the Safety Design of Business Facilities for SME Competition organized by the Hong Kong Occupational Safety and 4
5 Health Council. (7) One S.6 Chemistry student was nominated to join the Chemical Safety Mascot Design Competition organized by the Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Council. (8) With the aid of Diversity Learning Grant, thirty nine S.6 Chemistry students participated in the HKDSE Chemistry Mock Examination organized by the Hong Kong Association of Mathematics and Science Education. (9) Fifteen S.5 students were nominated to join the Race-Easy City Orienteering Competition organized by the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. (10) Six S.5 Chemistry students were recruited to join the Digi-Science Video Production Competition organized by the Hong Kong EDB. (11) On 26 th November, forty S.4 Chemistry students helped to organize the Chemistry Laboratory Campus Tour on our school Information day. (12) Professional Development Activity/Activities: a. On 14 th and 23 rd November, two students from the Chemistry Department, HKUST co-taught with Mr. Lau CK as the activities of their undergraduate course Career Building in Science Education. b. On 7 th November, Ms. Mo HT & Mr. Lau CK attended a seminar on Briefing Session on 2016 HKDSE Chemistry and Combined Science (Chemistry Part) Examination organized by Hong Kong Education Bureau. (13) Others: a. On 9 th November, the monthly newsletter of Science Society, Sound of Science was issued with the theme of Seven Amazing facts about Black Holes. b. On 17 th November after school, HKUST Seminars was held by Prof. Angela Wu from the School of Science, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with the theme of Reading and Writing the genetic code: Diagnostics, GMOs, and Designer babies. c. On 23 th November after school, HKU SPACE Seminars was held by Dr. Samuel Ng from the Hong Kong University SPACE with the theme of Target therapy and Immunotherapy. Integrated Science Department (Science KLA) (1) Three S.2 students were recruited to join the Digi-Science Video Production Competition organized by the Hong Kong EDB. (2) Nine S.2 students were nominated to join the Race-Easy City Orienteering Competition organized by the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. (3) Professional Development Activity/Activities: On 2 nd November, Mr. Kwan M.F. held a Departmental Community of Practice with our science colleagues on the topic of The Use of the Microscope. (4) Others: a. On 9 th November, the monthly newsletter of Science Society, Sound of Science was issued with the theme of Seven Amazing facts about Black Holes. 5

On 17 th November after school, HKUST Seminars was held by Prof. Angela Wu from the School of Science, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with the theme of Reading and Writing the genetic code: Diagnostics, GMOs, and Designer babies. c. On 23 th November after school, HKU SPACE Seminars was held by Dr. Samuel Ng from the Hong Kong University SPACE with the theme of Target therapy and Immunotherapy. History Department (1) Ms. Chan MY attended the Enriching Knowledge Series: 5 Lectures on Modern History of China Eventful Years: The Quest and Practice of Socialist Construction in Contemporary China ( ) (Updated) Lecture 1: Better to err on the Left than on the Right : from New Democracy to the launching of socialist construction ( ) organized by the EDB on 4 th November, (2) Ms. Chan MY attended the Enriching Knowledge Series: 5 Lectures on Modern History of China Eventful Years: The Quest and Practice of Socialist Construction in Contemporary China ( ) (Updated) Lecture 2: Achieving greater, quicker, better, and more economical results : the Great Leap Forward and the intensification of contradictions within the Party ( ) organized by the EDB on 7 th November, (3) Ms. Chan MY attended the Enriching Knowledge Series: 5 Lectures on Modern History of China Eventful Years: The Quest and Practice of Socialist Construction in Contemporary China ( ) (Updated) Lecture 3: To rebel is justified : the Cultural Revolution and the end of the era of charismatic leadership ( ) organized by the EDB on 10 th November, (4) Ms. Chan MY attended the Briefing Session on 2016 HKDSE History Examination cum SBA Conference (New) organized by the EDB & HKEAA on 22 nd November, (5) Ms. Chan MY attended the Enriching Knowledge Series: 5 Lectures on Modern History of China Eventful Years: The Quest and Practice of Socialist Construction in Contemporary China ( ) (Updated) Lecture 5: Change and continuity: viewing reform and opening up in the Deng Xiaoping era from the historical perspective organized by the EDB on 23 rd November, Visual Arts Department (1) 5D Lo Pui Ki obtained a golden award of Children Kingdom Children Art Annual Exhibition 2016 of the 4 th Exhibition for International Asian Children Art 2016 co-organized by Art2World and Forest Stewardship Council. (2) On 30 th November, Mr. Wan attended the briefing session of 2016 HKDSE VA Exam. 13. Report from Parents Affairs Committee (1) A parents group was co-organized by PAC, Heep Woh Church, Youth Global Network and PTA to help them learn more skills to face the developmental changes of their children. Almost 40 parents joined the group. The first gathering was held on 11 th 6
7 November which the participants enjoyed. (2) On 19 th November, the 1 st session of the Parents Workshop was held. It was organized jointly by PAC, Heep Woh Church, Youth Global Network and PTA. (3) On 11 th November, the 7 th committee meeting of 20 th PTA Executive Committee was held. The main agenda of the meeting includes discussing the details of the PTA picnic. 14. Report from School Promotion Committee (1) The second meeting for School Promotion Committee was held on 16 th November 2016 with highlight on the arrangement for the Information Day including the programme, budget, human resource allocation and arrangements relating to reception and the rehearsal on 24 th November (2) The publication of the School Pamphlets of 2016 was completed in early November and they were mailed or sent to primary schools for promotion purpose. They would be distributed to participants on Information Day on 26 th November, (3) Four S.4 students were recruited as student ambassadors of the School Archive Room and a training course for them was held on 9 th November, (4) A briefing session for student helpers of the Information Day was held on 17 th November, 2016 after school in the Function Hall. (5) Ms. Chan MY and Ms. Helen Lai updated the display objects in the School Archive Room on 21 st November, (6) The publication of the first issue of the School Newsletters was completed on 21 st November, They were distributed to staff, students and primary schools and would be distributed to participants on Information Day on 26th November, 2016 as well as on the CCC Joint School Information Day on 9 th and 10 th December, (7) Two S.1 students were trained by Ms. Chui WM to help promote the school with the Principal at Canossa Primary School (San Po Kong) on 25 th November, (8) The Information Day was successfully held on 26 th November, There were more than 1,200 participants visiting our school. (9) Our Committee also helped arrange the visit by three CCC primary schools to our school on 26 th November, 2016 afternoon. (10) Ms. Chan MY represented the school to attend the briefing session for the CCC Joint School Information Day at Heep Woh Primary School (Cheung Sha Wan) on 29 th November, Report from Extra-Curricular Affairs Committee (1) 18 student leaders, 8 teachers and the principal went to celebrate the 105 th Anniversary or Guangzhou XieHe Middle School on 12 th and 13 th November. Students performed in the ceremony and treasured the opportunity to meet the Guangzhou XieHe School students. (2) The School Picnic Day was held smoothly on 18 th November. The weather was fine for the whole day. Students and teachers enjoyed having the picnic. 7
8 16. Report from Career Guidance Committee (1) On 9 th and 16 th November, S.6 Interview Workshops were organized. We invited practitioners in various sectors to conduct interviews with our S.6 students so as to prepare them well for the interviews in near future. (2) On 24 th November, S.6 students finished their choice of subjects in JUPAS. 17. Report from Staff Development Committee The 2 nd Staff Development Day, CCC EMI Secondary Schools Staff Development Day, was held on 25 th November. The theme was Enhancement of Learning & Teaching Effectiveness. 18. Report from Discipline Committee (1) On 15 th November, a S.4 story-telling competition was co-organized with English Department. The theme of the story is respect. About 200 students participated in the activity and enjoyed the performance of the S.4 participants. (2) On 16 th November, one after-school workshop was organized by school social workers after school for 16 S.1 S.2 students to learn how to maintain friendship with peers. (3) On 21 st November, social workers from the Rainbow Lutheran Centre Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service, LC-HKS visited our school and organized a games booth during lunch time about maintaining friendship with peers at the school main entrance. 19. Report from Religious Education Committee (1) On 14 th, 21 st and 28 th November lunch time, lunch meetings of the core group of Christian Fellowship were held preparing for the Student Fellowship activities. (2) On 9 th and 23 rd November after school, Christian Fellowship was organized. (3) On 10 th November lunch time, S5 cell group meetings were held. (4) On 1 st and 22 nd November lunch time, S6 cell group meetings were held. (5) On 11 th November after school, 4C activity reunion worship gathering and BBQ night was held. (6) On 16 th November lunch time, S.1 Bible Class for new believers was held. (7) On 24 th October lunch time, Teacher Prayer Meeting was held. (8) On 26 th November, ten student volunteers joined the picnic day of Lok Yan School at Tsing Yi Park. 20. Principal s External Activities (1) On 1 st November morning, I attended the Principal Meeting of CCC Principals of Wong Tai Sin District. (2) On 1 st November noon, I attended a lunch meeting of Wong Tai Sin District Principal Fellowship. 8
9 (3) On 2 nd November afternoon, I attended a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association of Principals of Secondary Schools, HKCCCC. (4) On 4 th November afternoon, I attended the meeting of the Church Administration Department of HKCCCC. (5) On 5 th November afternoon, I attended a seminar on Using Putonghua/Cantonese to teach Chinese Language organized by Hong Kong Teacher Center and Xianggang Putonghua Yanxishe. (6) On 8 th November evening, I attended the task group of Learning and Teaching of the Central Board of Directors of HKCCCC. (7) On 14 th November afternoon, I attended the meeting of the Tendering Committee for the Project organized by the School Sponsoring Body for the Use of Strengthening School Administration Management Grant organized by the Association of Principals of Primary Schools and Secondary Schools, HKCCCC. (8) On 14 th November evening, I attended the Executive Council meeting of HKCCCC. (9) On 15 th November morning and afternoon, I attended the meeting of the Association of Principals of Secondary Schools, HKCCCC. (10) On 18 th November afternoon, I attended the Briefing Sessions on Promotion of Racial Integration and Prevention of Racial Discrimination in Schools organized by the Equal Opportunities Commission. (11) On 21 st November afternoon, I attended the core group of Chinese Language Teachers Exchange Group of the Association of Principals of Secondary Schools, HKCCCC. (12) On 24 th November afternoon, I attended the Seminar Master Mind for Handling Complaints: Building Stress Resilience and Emotional Competence organized by the Education Bureau.
