I will endeavour to add anything exciting that I have missed during the two days I am away, to next week s newsletter! Educational Visit Year 4 were a credit to their parents and the staff on Monday during their visit to Havenstreet Railway, dressed as evacuees. They have been motivated and fully engaged with this topic and so much more so when their learning experience became very real, being part of some of the things the children went through back at the start of World War 2. Thank you to all the parents for the fantastic costumes and staff for also taking part - everyone looked great and it really added to the reality of the day. Year 5 to Medina College Our local High Schools are working hard to ensure that our children are supported well with their transition to High School. This now involves Year 5 children having the opportunity to spend time at the different High Schools. On Monday our Year 5 spent the day at Medina College, experiencing the many different opportunities they can access at High School. I was particularly pleased to have received this from a member of Medina staff: Miss Marshall and year 5 - It sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday. I just wanted to let you know that I was talking to Miss Caddick (PE teacher) last night and she commented on how sensible and well behaved the Wootton Primary children were. Well done year 5! Again, I am so proud of our children at Wootton- we really do have wonderful children here! cont... Wootton Primary School ~ a first class education for all within a challenging, secure and happy environment for learning.

2 Talking of wonderful children and ensuring that they get the best education, being a RI school means that we receive additional support from the Local Authority to up-skill staff and support us to drive standards forward. This often involves advisors coming in to school to observe lessons, talk to children and look at books. Next week we have 2 days of different visitors and I am confident that they will see the improvements the school has made and validate our judgements. I will share feedback with you when I have received it and thank you for your continued support. Active Challenge/Active Travel Week 26th June to 30th June Your child will have been sent home today with their challenge card. During next week please record how many times they have come to school on their bikes, scooters, walk or park n stride to school. At the end of the week we will collect all the cards to be entered into a raffle for a child in each class to win a prize. We will then pass these cards on to Sustrans who will put them into a draw to win a bag of Sustrans goodies. Please ensure your child s name and the school is on the card. Classes for September 2017 Following the information sent last week, I am pleased to be able to share with you where most of our support staff will be deployed next term. Reception - Miss Forrest with Mrs Denham Year 1 - Miss Jones to be confirmed Year 2 - Mrs Moore with Mrs Dew Year 3 - Mrs Blake (Monday to Thursday with Mrs Grimes on Fridays) with Mrs Bailey Year 4 - Miss Bridges with Mrs Gilbert (mornings) Year 5 - Mr Gregory with Miss Bayliss (mornings) Year 6 - Mr O Sullivan with Mrs Field (mornings) I am working with the staff at the moment to rename the classes and the children will find out these on the first transition day on Thursday 29th June. Once our current stock has been sold they will not be replaced. Day Closures (Development Days) As the school continues it s improvement journey I would like to ensure that the 5 statutory day closures enable staff to engage in purposeful training to drive the school forward. Therefore the school will be closed the following days for staff training: Monday 4th September 2017 (All IOW schools) Tuesday 5th September 2017 Friday 20th October 2017 There will be a further 2 days to be taken at some point during the academic year, more details to follow. Your child will be coming home today with a form to complete on each journey they make between 26th and 30th.
