1 Newsletter Date: March 2018 Dates to remember; March End of Term 1 Thursday 29th 2:30pm dismissal Good Friday Friday 30th April Term 2 Begins Monday 16th Combined Special School Athletic Sports Stawell Monday 30th The mornings are getting that little bit fresher so there must only be a week to go of Term 1. There have been a number of things happening around the school and in the Community, many of which will be covered in this newsletter. Outside all the great work being done by students, the most significant progress is that of our new school build. Stage One is really starting to take shape with the timber framing of our section almost completed and work on the Secondary School section well underway and the 28 th November 2018 handover looking very achievable. Fingers crossed that the funds to complete the whole project are in the May State Budget. Check out the last few pages of this newsletter for some progress shots. Most students IEP meetings have been completed, so thankyou to you all for your support and co-operation as we work together to continue to ensure that all students have the best opportunities possible to become the finest individual they can be. Have an enjoyable safe holiday break and see you all in a couple of weeks at the Athletic Sports in Stawell. Peter Principal s Report Clean Up Australia Day On Friday the 2 nd of March the students of Warracknabeal SDS participated in Clean up Australia Day. We collected our yellow bags, put on our gloves and got into teams ready for action. We cleaned up down near the creek at the Roma Ross Reserve. We didn t find a lot of rubbish but we did find things like; glass, wooden posts, bottles, cans, bottle caps, plastic bags and a thong! It was fun!

2 Junior School Junior Blue has had a great start to first term. Gabby s 7th birthday was celebrated at the start of term with a yummy chocolate cake. Everybody has been working hard on their math's and literacy, then on the warmer days having fun practicing swimming. The older students in Junior Blue have done a great job welcoming new student Anastasia.

3 Junior School The Junior Red students enjoyed their active in the Community Participation Program, Meals on Wheels, organized cooperatively by Rural NorthWest Health and the Yarriambiack Shire Council. They delivered around meals on each Wednesday of Term 1. The students were keen to help with their friendly faces and polite greetings. On our last visit we will wish our senior citizens a Happy Easter and deliver a decorated Easter card with their meal. A job well done!

4 Middle School Groups 3 & 4 explored Brim in search of Geocaches. You do this using an app on your phone or ipad. After a lot of searching they finally found some hidden treasures. They also enjoyed exploring the football oval and having a BBQ lunch at the creek. The flies were annoying! On the hunt for our next Geocache

5 Senior School Healthy Canteen Options This term we have been learning how to mass produce healthy canteen options. Each Tuesday as part of our Vocational Education program we have been responsible for making up to 12 healthy lunches for us and the staff to enjoy. We have been responsible for taking orders, working out shopping lists, budgets, time management (now that is a hard one) and presentation of Meat and Salad bowls and either a muffin or Fruit Salad to follow. We think we are now ready to expand our canteen to rest of the students in the school and will be offering things like Healthy Hamburgers Vegetable stir fry and boiled rice Nikki, Darcey and Kai
