1 Dear Parents, The school year is progressing so quickly; I cant believe that we are over half way through the year. The children have been very busy enjoying a wide range of opportunities and activities. The London trip was simply an amazing experience, please read about what everyone got up to, later in the newsletter. World Book and Red Nose Day were great fun too, thank you for supporting these two really important events. Please look closely at the diary so you don t miss anything, we have lots more on the horizon. Parents evenings are coming up in the next few weeks, please don t forget to book your appointment it would be lovely to see you there. At parents evening you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire aimed at gathering your ideas and thoughts about what is important to you at Peel Park School as we move forward with me as the Head Teacher. All ideas will be warmly received. Also sadly we will be saying good bye to Mr Spedding. He will be missed greatly and we will ensure he gets a memorable good bye and special Peel Park send off. We are in the process of recruiting a new Deputy Head for September. During the summer term Mrs Airey and Miss Tracey will be sharing the role of Acting Deputy Head to ensure that the school runs smoothly. Sandra Hall Head Teacher

2 London 2019 On the 6 th March Wednesday at 5:30am, Peel Park set off on an amazing journey to London.The first adventure we went to was the Harry Potter Museum.Everyone had a brilliant time. We saw the sets, wands, costumes and houses. After another trip on the bus, we went to the one and only HMS Belfast with our enthusiastic tour guide (Susanne) who had an intelligent mind and told us lots of interesting facts. Inside the ship, we saw creepy manikins and we met a couple of people who worked on the ship. When we reached the hotel we had time to unpack our suitcases and just 20 minutes later we went down to the restaurant and had some delicious food and a yummy desert. Finally, we had a good night sleep and dreamed big dreams. Waking up bright and early,everyone got dressed and had a wash.making our way down, we had a refreshing breakfast to the start of the day. We went back upstairs and got our backpack and coats and off we went. Excitedly, we went to the Tower Of London and saw all of the dungeons. In the middle of the day, we went to see the gorgeous crown jewels. During our walking tour of London, we saw the Royal Houses such as Buckingham Palace and we even saw Prince Charles s house. Then was visited number 10 Downing Street to see Theresa May s house and we even strolled past Sherlock Holmes s house - lots of houses! Later that day, we made our way to the Rainforest Café for tea and the most exciting part of the day - the Lion King at the theatre. It was amazing! After a tiring day we went to our rooms and brushed our teeth and went to bed.sadly, it was our last day in London but it was a spectacular day! We went to St Paul s Cathedral and climbed to the whispering gallery and last but not least it was the 4D experience which was just before the London Eye. Then it was time to go home so we got back on to the coach. We sat near Mr Magrath and Mr Swift who were really funny Mr Swift even fell asleep. 3 Online Safety Are you aware of. parents and carers role in online safety? Parents / Carers play a crucial role in ensuring that their children understand the need to use the internet and mobile devices in an appropriate way. At Peel Park, we take every opportunity to help parents understand these issues through parents' evening, newsletters, our website and computing blog, the schools Facebook page and text alerts. This is to keep parents up to date with both national and local news and literature around online safety. Parents and carers are encouraged to support the school in promoting good online safety practice and to follow guidelines on the appropriate use of: digital and video images taken at school events their children's personal devices in school good practise when using the internet at home. For more information, please see the schools Online safety policy. Following discussions during the recent 'Keeping your child safe online' session. We now have monthly text message alerts with handy parents user guides to apps and websites that we are aware children are using. 4 SATs Booster Classes SATs booster classes are being run in school until week commencing 6th May 2019, sessions run from 8:10am and children should arrive at the KS2 entrance. The schedule is as follows: Monday Reading Tues Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG) Wednesday Maths Happy Easter! We would like to invite you to join our Easter competition! The competition is to create an Easter bonnet or hat. Bring in your completed designs on Thursday 4 th April. A winner will be picked from each class and announced during assembly. The winners hats will be displayed on the stage for parents evening. Have fun

5 Parents evening will be held on Thursday 4th April 2019 the school will continue to use the online parents evening system to book appointments. A text message will be sent out when the appointments go live, which will be towards the middle of March. If you have any problems please contact the school office for assistance. Thank You. Music instrument lessons - next deadline to apply is by 24th March 2019 to start after Easter. Celebration of Music The school choir performed at the Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre on Tuesday 5th March 2019 to a packed out theatre. Well done to all the children who took part in the event you did yourselves and the school proud! Amazing Job! Young Voices We took part in the 'Young Voices' concert for the first time at the MEN arena in Manchester. We were singing as part of the biggest choir in the whole world, as young voices brings together hundreds of schools from all over the Northwest. We also sang with Tony Hadley! We will be going back next year, so look out for the letters in the summer term!

All the doors will be open by 8:45 so that children no longer have to wait in the yard until the bell goes. Parking Please be considerate of local residents and parking restrictions around school when dropping off and picking up your children. The school car park is for staff and disabled access parking only and should not be used for general parking. We also kindly ask all parents to walk through the school grounds and not the car park as this can be dangerous. Thank you.
