1 26/11/2014 Issue 38 Yes it is happening! Soon after I arrived at St Mark s a little over two years ago, I first heard about our planned cookbook. Usually the comments were followed by a little laughter which I soon understood to be related to the growing legend of a long planned for publication that was no closer to becoming a reality. What a pleasure to be able to let you all know that the St Mark s School Cookbook 2014 is at the printers and orders are now being taken. With over 150 recipes from our community, a number of historic photographs of our early days as well as a modern touch to other photos sure to capture the interest of our Lego loving students, the cookbook makes a great Christmas gift while also supporting the fundraising efforts of our P and F. Order forms and further details are included with today s newsletter. St Mark s activities this week. - This morning our first group of 2015 Foundation students visited with us for their initial transition visit. On Thursday we welcome our second group for their initial visit. Both groups will make their second visits next week. - Our Year 1 and Year 4 students are participating in their week of swimming lessons at Stateswim. - Tomorrow we look forward to our student assembly which will be led by our 5I class. We begin at 9:00 am in our hall. - On Friday Pastor Stephen will lead our whole school chapel. Come along and join us from 9:00 am and then stay for coffee and chat afterwards in the library. - On Friday our Senior Choir will visit the residents at Sash Ferguson and share their wonderful voices in performance for the residents. - Our Year 2 classes will experience life in a different way on Friday when they transform their classrooms to the Olden Days. - Our students will wrap up the week with our P and F student discos on Friday evening. It is another great week of learning and activities for our students School Budget and Tuition Fees Our School Council has approved and adopted our 2015 School budget. Later this week you will receive a separate letter which will provide detailed information on major income and expenditure, tuition fees and charges for 2015 as well as the staffing, resources and facility additions we will provide in 2015 to improve opportunities for our students. End of Year Major Activities On Wednesday 10 th December, we will hold our final assembly in our school hall. We will begin at 9:00am. Later that night we will all gather at Inbarendi, Cornerstone College for our closing worship service and Year 6 graduation. All students are required to attend our celebration. If you have any you don t need we would really appreciate them. Please drop them into the classroom or the Front Office. Thank you Amanda Kluge Talent Quest In the final week of school the Year 4-6 students are invited to enter the Talent Quest. The act can be dance, song, magic, drama, musical instrument or any other suitable creative act. The act must be pre-rehearsed and a time limit of 3 minutes applies. There are great prizes. Auditions are held in class during Week 8 to ensure suitability in terms of song choice etc. We have visited classes to let students know about this fun event. Oh, and parents are invited along to watch if they wish to. Thank you SRC Music Classes Class Concert Days are on week 7 & 8 in Music & Drama classes in Year 1-6. Any students who learn an instrument or have dance or drama lessons may prepare a performance for the class. Please encourage your child to share their learning with us and help them to choose some music which is well rehearsed & well known Instrumental Lessons & Hired Instruments If your child is not continuing with their lessons into 2015, please contact your tutor as soon as possible. If your child is hiring an instrument and is leaving St Mark s at the end of the year or discontinuing lessons or simply no longer needing to hire, please return the instrument after their final lesson to the front office Instrumental Lessons General Instrumental enrolments may be made at any time for 2015, with forms available from the front office. Subsidised band students in 2015 will be notified by the end of this week of their instrument allocation. There are still vacancies for brass instruments as well as saxophone if you are still thinking of enrolling your child for next year. Choir Please remember that the choir s final performances for the year are Friday 28 th November to Sash Ferguson Aged Care Homes from am Monday 1 st December - choir tour all day excursion Wednesday 10 th December - Closing Service & Graduation at Inbarendi All senior choir students need to arrive at school on Monday 1 st December by 8.25am sharp for the choir tour excursion to the Barossa Valley. Stocktake will begin in Week 8 (Monday 1 st December) Book Club Book Club Order forms were handed out last week. Orders and payment are due to the office by Wednesday 26 th November. This is the last book club for the year. Louise Paterson, Librarian Lost Property A brown winter jumper has been lost belonging to Alexandra T - it is labelled with her name. Please return to front office if found. There is a considerable amount of articles in the lost property box. Please take any items that belong to you before the end of Term 4. Also included with this newsletter, is a toy fundraising pamphlet (through Educational Experience). If parents wish to order, please go to and login (top right corner of the website) with an address and a password. You will receive an confirming your registration. You can then purchase items and when you go to checkout, all you need to do then is to nominate St Mark s Lutheran Primary School in order for our school to earn fundraising vouchers. For every dollar spent from the catalogue, 20 cents in educational resource vouchers will be provided for our school to spend with Educational Experience. Your purchases will be delivered to your door. 5 Strathalbyn Swimming Club - School Swimming Carnival On Wednesday 12 th of November, six St Mark's students were asked by the Strathalbyn Swimming Club to represent the school at their School Swimming Carnival. The school was represented by the following swimmers: Damon l - Year 6, Blake l - Year 5, Alex J - Year 5, Sienna l - Year 2, Elisha l - Year 2, Ava l - Year 1 All students were excited to participate and swam exceptionally well. Out of 8 schools, St Mark s came 5 th, which is a great effort considering the small amount of entrants. Afterwards, the six swimmers were able to have their medals and ribbons signed by Olympic swimmer Sally Hunter Results:- Alex j - 11 year old boys, Gold - 50m Freestyle, Gold - 50m Backstroke, Gold -50m Breaststroke, Gold - 50m Butterfly Damon l - 12 year old boys Silver - 50m Butterfly Blake l - 10 year old boys, Gold - 50m Freestyle, Gold - 50m Backstroke, Silver - 50m Breaststroke Elisha j - 10&Under Girls, Bronze - 50m Butterfly, Bronze - 50m Backstroke

6 SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE The School Dental Service is the major provider of dental services for babies, children and young people under 18 years in South Australia. Around 130, 000 children attend every year. The Commonwealth Child Dental Benefits Schedule for 2 17 year olds started in ALL children are very welcome to continue to access dental care at the School Dental Service. Dental care is FREE for most children and the School Dental Service will bulk bill Medicare. Children who do not qualify for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule can also attend a small fee will apply for each course of general dental care provided. School Dental Clinics are located across Adelaide and regional SA.
