Ms Trudy Walsh Contact Person Principal s Foreword Introduction Christ the King (CTK) is a high quality learning community with an enrolment of approximately 245 students. CTK is a co-educational school, offering classes from Prep to Year Seven. Christ the King operates within the Corinda Graceville Catholic Parish and forms part of the network of Brisbane Catholic Education schools. Because of the small size of our school, teachers and support staff know each child by name and it is our priority to maintain a safe, secure environment where all children experience belonging. 2 Curriculum offerings Our distinctive curriculum offerings Religious Education Program which develops students religious literacy and reflection on their own spiritual growth Cultural Literacy and Languages - A high quality Japanese language and culture program occurs from years 4 to 7. Performing Arts - The program comprises a specialist classroom Performing Arts course for all year levels including dance, music and drama components. Music - An instrumental program, including private and group lessons, is offered to children from Prep to Yr 7. A school choir is also available. Visual Arts - An excellent specialist Classroom Art Program operates from Prep to Yr 7. Enrichment Program - Activities such as the following are offered as a means of enriching student learning: Debating; Public Speaking; Maths Olympiad; Chess Club; Science Club. 3 How Information and Communication Technologies are used to assist learning All children have access to a network of computers throughout the school incorporating both a computer lab in the Library and computers in each classroom. Every classroom and learning area is fitted with interactive whiteboards to provide up to the minute learning episodes. Each classroom is networked to a central server in the school. Information technology is but one of the technologies accessed within the learning environment at CTK and as such is not seen as a goal within itself. Computers are valuable tools that are used creatively at CTK to enhance children's learning outcomes. Our students are taught how to use the internet critically and efficiently within research and problem solving processes. The application of a range of software and use of are also part of our information literacy program. Social climate We believe in teaching and encouraging children to live Jesus' message in their daily lives. This is achieved through faith education, which instills values such as forgiveness, acceptance and helping each other. We believe in a child-centered spirituality, which acknowledges individuality and promotes the belief that each child is special and has the ability to make a difference to our community. We promote behaviours and ideas that make children feel at peace with their lives and their environment. We see Christ the King Catholic Parish Primary School as an integral part of the ministry of the Corinda-Graceville parish and the Catholic community, and we value the relationships between all community members. In the way in which Jesus embraced and helped all people, we endeavour to be welcoming and promote a strong sense of belonging and involvement to all community members. Christ The King School provides significant additional programs within the teaching and learning program of the school, which add value and interest for students, supplementing in enriching ways the core curriculum program offered from Prep to Year 7. Six internal school audits were completed which included interviews of parents and surveys and reports were written on school progress in six aspects of internal school validation. Newsletters were used throughout the year seeking feedback on curriculum programs, personal development programs, school awards, camps and extra curricular activities. The School Board functions as a consultative group with an open invitation to parents to provide ongoing feedback about school progress. 3
