1 2018 Lent Term No. 8 Newsletter Message from the Headteacher Key Values: Innovation, Confidence, Aspiration, Respect, Enthusiasm Dear Parents and Children I hope many of you can visit tomorrow and experience school life with us again. There is always such a lot to see and I thank the staff for so much discretionary time this week to ensure the school is looking its best. Don t forget to pick up a Barista-brewed Safi coffee as you arrive. WE Day WE Day was a truly inspirational visit this week and I left, alongside the children, wanting to change the world! Generation WE. You are the youth to change the future! Well done to the pupils who were impeccably behaved and to the staff who gave so much of themselves during the visit. It was worth it! I hope the experiences the Student Leadership Council have had over the past two years encourages further pupils to put themselves forwards in the future for the Student Council. HMC I was keen to hold the HMC Junior Heads meeting here this week and it was a very successful visit, which has led to me being invited to speak at the HMC National Conference about Teaching and Learning. I am so proud that HCS is being recognised at the front of teaching and learning so many times over in recent months. We will never stop learning and moving the school forward. Concert Many thanks to Mrs Penny and Miss Featherston, who held a Coffee, Cakes and Strings concert yesterday. Violin, viola and cello pupils from the Prep and Senior school performed a variety of pieces which were enjoyed by parents and friends. The donations of cookies and cakes were appreciated by all! 2 Headteacher s Commendation Susannah For writing a fabulous poem about the Iron Man and a mystery story at home. An author in the making! Well done Susannah. Heidi This year Heidi has taken a leading role in year 5, as class Councillor. This has allowed Heidi to show how confident and vocal she can be, and has proven to be a real leader. Mrs Young has found her flourishing within the Leadership Programme, culminating in confident representation of Hull Collegiate, as she proved to be a brilliant ambassador. On a day to day basis, Heidi shows her sharp wit, and kind heart to all her peers, and demonstrates a positive attitude towards learning, as she strives to be the best person she can be.

These staggered pick-up times should reduce the chance of you becoming caught up in traffic congestion within the school grounds. Friday 4 May (pm): New Foundation Stage Development Opening Celebrations Lunches, Catering and Nutrition within the Foundation Stage Last Friday, Mrs Sue Fletcher, the Hull Collegiate School Catering Manager, led a discussion for Foundation Stage parents regarding the philosophy behind our catering provision for Foundation Stage pupils and the impacts of Government nutritional legislation. I am sure that those parents who joined us would agree that we had a very informative and interesting dialogue. 4 Guinness World Record It is a great honour and pleasure to inform you that our Guinness World Record attempt last year for the largest Saturday Night (by Whigfield) Dance was a success!! The Guinness website has been updated to state that Hull Collegiate School is the current record holder with 325 participants. The school has been issued an official certificate which will be displayed near reception shortly. Any staff and pupils who took part can now apply for their certificates and other merchandise. Forms are available at both the senior and prep receptions. Orders must be returned to Miss Groves by 30 April please. Pupils and staff who stewarded, witnessed and filmed the event can apply for certificates of participation. We are planning another record attempt in June for the most people wearing inflated swimming armbands (water wings) which will be open to all staff and pupils in senior and prep school. You must provide your own armbands but there will be some available to buy from school after May half term. Participants must apply to take part by Fri 15 June in order for the event to be planned efficiently... More details and application form to follow! Well done and a massive thank you to everybody involved! SGr School Transport - Trinity Term 2018 The school transport information for the Trinity term has been sent to current users via this week. Please return the application form and Terms & Conditions by Monday 12 March Please note: Termly bus charges will be added to your ParentPay account on receipt of your bus application form. Choir The final rehearsal for choir before the Music Festival performance is on Wednesday 14 March until 16:30 in the Baccarat Room. Pickup will be from the goldfish bowl entrance. If you wish to attend their performance, the class starts at 10:00 on Friday 16 March and will last approximately 45 minutes. SLM Exhibition by Art teacher Mr Doncaster Your are invited to come along and see an exhibition of table sculptures currently on display in the main foyer. These beautiful pieces of art have been created by Art teacher Mr Doncaster. The exhibition will run for the next two weeks. More information here

5 Boutique Milla and Alexander Hair Fashion Show, Friday 27 April Enjoy catwalk shows, hair and makeup demonstrations, access to stall holders, exclusive raffle prizes and much more. Tickets ( 15 pp) include a glass of prosecco on arrival with VIP ticket holders ( 25pp) enjoying a front row seat and generous goody bag. Child tickets are available for 10 but cannot be used alongside a VIP ticket as they do not include reserved front row seating or goody bags. A cash bar will be available. The evening will start at 19:00. This event is in association with Boutique Milla, Alexander Hair Design and Lesley Wilks Make Up Artist.
