1 Tournament 9 th July 2016 The SSK held their first tournament on Saturday 9 th July. There was a good turn out with over 50% of the Association s children and youths competing. Parents and spectators participated by supplying a superb buffet with the SSK providing hot food and a supply of hot and cold drinks throughout the day. The day began with the introduction of the SSK s instructors Joe Edmonds 5 th Dan, John Glasgow 5 th Dan, Sam Crouchman, 3 rd dan Jael Seema 3 rd Dan, Lee Glasgow 2 nd Dan, Brooke Porter 2 nd Dan, Kevin Keating 2 nd Dan, Johnny Francois 1 st Dan, Hannah Winning Junior 2 nd Dan and team members Andy Ebdon (Club Secretary) and Sue Glasgow (Assistant Instructor). The tournament began with Kata. Presiding on area 1 was the all-female judging panel of Sam Crouchman, Brooke Porter and Hannah Winning. On area 2, the all-male judging panel of Jael Seema, Lee Glasgow, Kevin Keating and Johnny Francois. A break for lunch followed the Kata event and the endless stream of food, drinks and desserts was enjoyed by all.
2 Individuals Kumite was the next category after lunch with Brooke and Hannah refereeing on Area 1 and Lee and Johnny on area 2. The last category before the finals was Team Kumite follow by a short break to polish off some more food and then straight into the finals with Brooke Porter and Hannah Winning assisting Joe Edmonds on area 1 and Lee Glasgow assisting father John on area 2. The day ended with the presentations and started with all students receiving personalised merit certificates. Kata awards were presented by Hannah Winning, current National, Ireland and World Champion. Individuals Kumite awards were presented by Lee Glasgow, multi champion in Kata, Kumite and former member of English Academy under Ticky Donovan. The Team presentations were shared between 3 rd Dans Sam Crouchman, SSK s qualified First Aid Instructor, and Jael Seema, former student of Taiji Kase, Keinosuke Enoeda and Steve Cattle.
