Another year of learning has come to an end at Parkes Christian School! What a year this has been for our school community. Over the next week we will take the PARKES CHRISTIAN SCHOOL A Ministry of the Parkes Community Church 243 Back Trundle Road (PO Box 420) PARKES NSW 2870 opportunity to reflect on the year that has been; and celebrate the achievements of our students across a range of areas. Our Final Assembly and Presentation Night are two events that I really enjoy. As teachers we spend our year sowing into the lives of our students; and now is an occasion where we can stop and celebrate the achievements of our students across a range of areas, both in and out of the classroom. I love having the opportunity to acknowledge students who have shown great levels of perseverance, character, academic performance or a whole host of other achievements or have demonstrated inspiring personal qualities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the parent community for your support over these first 6 months of my Principalship. I accepted this role because I love and believe in this school and broader community, and have a great desire to see kids in the country have access to the same high standard of education as their city counterparts. Your support in this mission has been greatly encouraging to me. With my own first born finishing Kindergarten next week, I have been able to access a whole new perspective on the importance and power of quality Christian education. 2 Important Info TUESDAY 12 TH DECEMBER: Whole School Final Assembly at 1:30pm, all parents, carers and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Full school uniform, no sport uniforms. WEDNESDAY 13 TH DECEMBER: Full school mufti day. High school students will be doing water sports during Period 1 & 2. So be prepared to get wet! All classes will be having class parties. At lunch there will be a sausage sizzle, sausage sandwiches are $2.00 and no orders needed. PRESENTATION NIGHT 2017 WEDNESDAY 13 TH DECEMBER Presentation Evening will be held in the PCS hall, commencing at 7pm sharp. At the conclusion of the evening, Semester 2 student reports for School will be issued. 3 Lions Youth of the Year Congratulations to Elly Collins and Emma Greenland for their incredible efforts in the first round of the 2018 Lions Youth of the Year Competition held in Forbes on Thursday 23 November. Judges and Lions Club members congratulated the girls on being some of the strongest competitors they had seen in recent years. The two girls spent time with three judges being interviewed on their views about local, national and regional issues. Following this they presented two impromptu speeches, then they gave prepared speeches about issues they are passionate about. Both students enjoyed the opportunity and recommend that other students participate in future. All judges said that it was incredibly difficult to separate the two girls, but we would like to extend congratulations to Elly Collins who won both the Public Speaking and Overall Competition. Well done Elly and best wishes for the next stage of the Competition. Miss Katrina Harris would like to thank the Lions Club for organising this event and we look forward to future involvement.

4 P&F Report for 2017 It has been another busy year for the P & F. I would firstly like to thank all those people who have contributed to the success of our many fundraising ventures this year. If you have helped the P & F in any way at all, THANK YOU! In March we kicked off the year with the 5c challenge, which brought in much needed funds for new playground equipment for the primary school children. During the year we held our regular fundraising events, including canteen days, athletics carnival canteen, the annual pie drive and a trivia night. On two occasions we set up canteens for the interschool sports days, where high school students from other Christian Schools joined our PCS students. A new initiative of the P and F this year was the Bush Dance, this was intended to be a community event and was a great success, with many non-school families coming to enjoy the music, the dancing and the general atmosphere. Thank you to all those who helped at any of these events and thank you to everyone who purchased something to support the P & F. These fundraising ventures raised approximately $5000 dollars for the school. Purchases made with P & F funds for 2017, included, a multi-lane timer for sports carnivals which we are looking forward to seeing up and running for the 2018 carnivals. A lounge was purchased for the library, which serves many functions and is being enjoyed by students right across the school. The P & F purchased swim caps featuring the school logo, these caps are for our swimmers to wear when representing our school at away events. Equipment including chalk boards were purchased for the primary school and money also went towards the completion of the laying of the name pavers under the flagpole. It is worth a look the next time you get a chance. A donation was made to Natalie Sharpe, a cross country runner who went as part of an Australian Christian schools contingent to the USA. Monies also went to the purchase and freight of bibles to Fiji. What s happening in 2018: It has been a wonderful experience watching the SRC this year as this group of young men and women, our future leaders, worked together to raise funds for the school and promote the wellbeing of PCS students. SRC representatives who attended a recent P & F meeting, kindly offered to take on the school s hot food days in 2018 this will free up the P & F to support the school in a number of other ways while allowing the SRC a continuous fundraising stream. We hope to again run our usual fundraisers in 2018, these will include the pie drive, the trivia night, athletics carnival canteen and the newly introduced 5c challenge and bush dance. The P & F hopes to produce a cook book, featuring recipes from students and families and a number of photos will also see the P & F run its biennial Spring Fair. We need help The P & F desperately needs your help in order to run fundraisers and other events in Please consider supporting us with your time and energy. 5 SRC Dress Up Day SRC Newsletter Report Our fundraising day on Wednesday was a great success with all the classes dressing up to their theme. We made $ from the dress ups and everyone enjoyed having hotdogs for lunch. All this money will go towards our new speaker system we are planning to put in. Thank you to all who participated in dressing up and supporting your class, and a big congratulations to Year 9 who had the most class participation and won a hot chip prize. Year 8 were runners up and won ice blocks for their whole class. We are excited for our plans with the speaker system that we hope to set up all around the school. These speakers will be playing motivational music during some mornings and lunches and they will be a great help in getting messages quickly around the whole school. Continuing into 2018 we will be holding more dress ups and hot food days to raise money for the PA system. With the year coming to an end we re looking forward to welcoming our new 2018 Primary School Captains and two new Year 7 SRC members.

7 Sports Wrap PCS Student Sports Wrap Interschool Sport Soccer By Caleb Hill: On Wednesday 29 November, PCS held the third and final round for Term 4 of Interschool Sport for Soccer was great fun! It was really enjoyable playing on the hockey turf and being competitive against MAGS and OAGS. The P&F canteen was great too and meant we could go and get a cool drink and something to eat, and be able to watch our friends in other sports which were really close by. It was a great day! Interschool Sport 9/10 Touch Football-Laura Cabban: The 9/10 Touch Football team enjoyed the Interschool Sports Gala Day which consisted of Parkes Christian School, Orange Anglican Grammar School and Macquarie Anglican Grammar School. There was tough competition from all schools! PCS competed with passion and endurance even when we were all tired. We won 2 out of 4 games, winning by only a few points. MAGS and OAGS gave us a run for our money while on the field by scoring many tries. Our team had lots of fun and it was an enjoyable day of sport! Interschool Sport 7/8/9/10 Netball-Sophie Field: The Netball team did really well for the final round of the Interschool Sports Competition. We had a limited amount of players, which caused some dramas but that didn t limit our sportsmanship during the day. We played three rounds against Macquarie Anglican Grammar School, which challenged us and made us work hard. We all did our best and encouraged each other while we played and we had great teamwork. We enjoyed our day and even though we didn t win any games we still gave it our best and had fun! Thank you to Mr Hardy and all the teachers for organising this event and making it so fun. We look forward to Interschool sport continuing in Commonwealth School Banking Thank you to our School Banking Co-ordinator We would like to thank Mr Glenn Pepper who has volunteered as our School Banking Co-ordinator since 2012, when School Banking was first introduced at PCS. Mr Pepper will be finishing up as our Co-ordinator at the end of the school year. PCS thanks Mr Pepper for his loyal & dedicated service to our school community over the past 6 years. Our School Banking volunteers are vital in helping teach students the importance of saving regularly. Calling for volunteers we need your help! Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program at PCS and to keep this program running we need your help. The program requires a volunteer School Banking Co-ordinator to facilitate the banking and distribution of School Banking rewards. This only takes a small amount of your time (an hour or 2) one day a week and the Commonwealth Bank will provide support in how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising. Currently, School Banking day is Tuesday.
