1 27 February 2015 Issue 21 PAG 2015 GCSE Exams Countdown 'Please find below a countdown to the summer 2015 GCSE exams. All pupils are expected to be in school every day until Tuesday 9 June when they only need to come into school for an exam or for a revision session. Of course, they are also welcome to use the independent study spaces in school beyond 9 June, if they find that working in school is of benefit to them. The countdown shows what is happening each week between now and the end of the exam period so you will know when your child should be in school and what revision sessions are running each day. Also attached is the GCSE Exams timetable. You may wish to highlight which exams are relevant to your daughter. I hope that together these documents provide sufficient detail of the plans over the coming few months. May I take this opportunity to say how pleased I am with the hard work and effort being made by Y11 which I am sure will pay off in great success in the summer and open doors to college and beyond. 5 Dear Parents I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal, Every Child Achieves. I took up the post in January this year and have been very busy getting to know everyone. I have been extremely impressed by the pupils hard work, commitment and attitude to learning. Most of all I have been made to feel very welcome and I am grateful to those staff, pupils and families who have contributed to that. It is vital that I build on these excellent foundations to ensure that all the pupils at PAG achieve their very best. It is no secret that pupils who Aspire and Achieve by committing to their education, share high standards of courtesy, presentation and traditional values, and will succeed, not only in school, but in later life. I am committed to supporting all pupils to leave PAG with confidence and determination to be the very best they can be. This does mean that I have very high expectations of the pupils in their approach to learning; behaviour around the school; their dress; and the way in which they communicate with staff and each other. I am grateful for the positive feedback I have already received from parents regarding these things and I do want to reiterate that these high expectations will continue and will be consistently supported by the staff. In light of this, I would like to highlight that we have a strict uniform policy and any pupil who does not adhere will be challenged and there will be consequences. Some pupils have been wearing ankle boots (predominantly Dr. Martens; which are only permissible in periods of snow-please refer to the uniform policy) and nonuniform jumpers/hoodies and scarves. I would be grateful for your support in this matter to ensure the girls do not wear these items as this causes unnecessary disruption to their learning; they will be sent home to change into the correct uniform. I appreciate that the cost of providing/ replacing uniform can be significant, can I please remind parents that there is help available to those families that are experiencing genuine financial hardship. Please contact your daughter s House Leader initially, to apply for financial assistance. In addition, please be aware that piercings and nail varnish must also be removed before school for health and safety reasons. For the week beginning 9 February = Pankhurst Austen Rowling Curie Please be aware that as from Monday March 2 nd parents will not be allowed into the academy car park in the morning or afternoon to drop off their child. This is due to the health and safety concerns of pupils entering on bicycle or by foot. Mr Ellis

7 You are warmly invited to attend the Year 10 Parents Consultation Evening on Wednesday 4 March from 3.45 pm 6.40 pm. The evening will give you the opportunity to meet with your daughter s teachers to discuss current levels, progress in lessons and next steps. 9 Year 9s and Year 10s Look! STEM Animation Club A fantastic new project for the STEM club starts Tues. 3rd March. 2 young female engineers will run the club in Room 22 each Tuesday afterschool from 3 10 until You will use amazing software to create an animation film. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a working knowledge animation software that the Aardman Studios use to produce Wallace and Grommit and Shaun the Sheep. Places are limited to 20 students from Y9 and Y10s. To reserve a place please see Mr. Revill as soon as possible
