1 Week 11 Term 1 10 April 2018 From the Principal End of Term 1 It has been an extremely busy first term of the school year. It is hard to believe we are already at the end of term holidays. Thank you to the dedicated staff here at Governor who have worked extremely hard throughout the term and provided so many great opportunities for our students. I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break and we look forward to seeing everyone back, safe and sound, after the holiday. Please be aware that students return to school on Tuesday 1 May. Years 3-6 Athletics Carnival Last Wednesday we held another successful Athletics Carnival for our students in Years 3-6. We had a great day with perfect weather, great activities, and a fun atmosphere. I was highly impressed with the level of participation and enthusiasm demonstrated by our students. A huge thank you to Miss Skoric, Mr Atterton and Mr Young for their organisation and preparation leading up to a very successful event. Thank you to the staff who assisted with the set-up, including Mr Gee, arriving at the venue at 6am and leaving well after the last buses departed. These events take a lot of planning and team work from the staff in order to be successful. SRL Morning Tea It was a pleasure to host the Term 1 SRL morning tea, for students nominated by their class teachers, this morning. These students consistently display the behaviours of being Safe, Respectful Learners. Congratulations to the representatives from each class. Voluntary School Contributions This term families received information about the voluntary school contribution fees. This year the cost is $70 per student. This money greatly assists our school to continue running effective programs and provide high quality resources for our students. It would be greatly appreciated if contributions could be finalised by this Friday (13 April). Evacuation Practice Last Thursday we had a practice drill of our evacuation procedures. Our students were amazing in the way they listened and followed all instructions given. Our procedures for an evacuation include all staff and students assembling on Allambie Oval. This ensures we are all in one place and that all students, staff and visitors to our school are accounted for and safely away from any possible dangers. School Equipment The holidays are a great time to ensure your child s school equipment is re-stocked and ready for the new school term. Please ensure your child returns to school after the holidays with all of the equipment necessary for their daily lessons and learning. Holiday Reading While on holidays our students should continue to ensure they are reading each day. Our senior students are still expected to be reading a novel a week. We are asking parents to encourage students to spend part of each day reading a book or novel. For our younger students they should be sharing their reading expertise with parents. Mathletics All of our students have access to Mathletics through their login cards that were sent home earlier this term. Students should be accessing Mathletics to review and practice the concepts and skills they are learning in class. Holidays are a great time to do some revision. Student Toilets Parents are reminded that under no circumstances are they to use the toilet facilities available for our students. There is a bathroom located at the end of the Kindergarten block if required, however, parents are reminded that this is also for staff use and should be left in a clean and tidy manner. Please ensure that at no time are student toilets used by adults who are on the school grounds.

2 Anzac Day Assemblies - Anzac Day ceremonies will be held this Thursday 12 th April, in the school hall. K/1/2 Assembly will commence at 10.00am. Years 3/4/5/6 Assembly will commence at 11.40am. On the day, we are requesting that all students attend school in their full school uniform and wear a sprig of rosemary, if possible. Wreaths will be laid at the assembly and we would appreciate students bringing in flowers and greenery to assist in making of the wreaths. Flowers can be delivered to class teachers, who will then distribute them accordingly. Mrs Katic and Miss Talyor. Values Education - The value for Week 11 is Cooperation. Cooperation is working together willingly with patience and affection to achieve a common goal. It is everyone helping to get something done. When we cooperate we bring our special strengths and talents to the group. Students are always working together in the school environment. We hope that parents will discuss the importance of working cooperatively and encourage their children to participate in family activities cooperatively at home as well. Mrs S. 3 Deputy Principal s Message Last week, students in Years 3-6 participated in the Primary Athletics Carnival. It was great to see the students running, jumping, throwing, being active and having lots of fun. Congratulations to Supply who were the winning house with a total of 411 points. Sirius were 2nd with 401 points. Scarborough were 3rd with 385 points and Alexander were 4th with 365 points. Thank you to the organisers Mrs Skoric, Mr Young and Mr Atterton. This week, trials for Winter PSSA have taken place. The Winter teams include Rugby League, Soccer and Netball. Winter PSSA will commence in Term 2 and continues in Term 3. Our Kindergarten students have completed their first term of school. It has been great to visit the Kindergarten classes throughout the term and see how settled the students are and how they have progressed. The Kindergarten teachers have worked extremely hard to ensure that all students have experienced a positive start to school through social interaction and learning expectations. I look forward to witnessing their continued success in Term 2. Governor Philip King has had such a successful start to the year and I hope that all students and staff have a safe holiday.
