1 Phil 2:1-2 November 28, 2018 P r i n c i p a l s N e w s l e t t e r Dear Parents, Calendar November 29 Dress Down Day, donations to Luers Family December 4 2nd Grade First Penance December 7 Dress Down Day with a non -perishable food item December 12 1:30 Dismissal December 13 St. Nick Shopper December 20 Christmas Program, final MMR Drawing December 21 Classroom Christmas parties, 1:30 Dismissal, NO AFTERCARE December 24 January 2 Christmas Break January 3 School Resumes We hope that your Thanksgiving Day was full of family, food, and blessings this year. May those blessings continue as we begin preparation of Advent. Advent starts on Sunday, December 2 and ends on Monday, December 24. Year to year we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of shopping, putting up decorations and light displays, baking, planning for parties and get togethers and all the distractions that take us away from the real meaning. Let's spend more time this season praying and preparing our hearts for Christ s coming. Please keep the 2nd graders in your prayers as they prepare their hearts for first reconciliation on Tuesday, December 4th. Preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Penance) for the first time is an exciting time. It is a time for focus on God s mercy, how we forgive among our family, friends, and community, and how we celebrate forgiveness. Advent is a wonderful time for reconciliation. It gives us all the opportunity to clear a way for our Lord in our hearts. What better way to prepare ourselves for Christ's coming than beginning advent with a clean heart. Please join us for our school Advent ceremonies where students will be doing skits about the Nativity on the following mornings. Monday, December 3rd at 8:20am Monday, December 10th at 8:20am Monday, December 17th at 8:20am Friday, December 21st at 8:30am -Friday there will be a pizza lunch followed by classroom parties. Thank you for your generosity to St. Aloysius on #givingtuesday. We thank you for the many ways you continue to bless our St. Al s family. Even though #givingtuesday has passed, family, friends, and supporters are still able to donate to St. Al s in the following ways: on our website by following the link by check through the mail, or by making a donation in person at the school or parish office! *Important Reminders: Please see the flyer that was sent home last week regarding upcoming Dress Down Days and the Christmas Stocking service project. There are early dismissals at 1:30pm on Dec. 12. and 1:30pm on Dec. 21st. Dec. 21st there will not be aftercare following the 1:30 dismissal. Christmas break begins on Dec. 24. School will resume on Thursday, Jan. 3rd.
2 Trivia Night 2018: We would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped make this event run smoothly, our sponsors and all who reserved a table at this year's Trivia Night! Matt Burgess won the 50/50 drawing and donated all of his winnings back to St. Al's. Thank you Matt! Tom Paoni was feeling festive and won a free seat at next year's Trivia for best dressed. Laura Norman's Trivia team won best table decor and received a wing party for 20 people. Elaine Spearie's Trivia Team won first place and received a table at next year's Trivia, a wing party for 20 people and bragging rights! Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you so much for your continued support of Saint Aloysius! I would like to sincerely thank the following sponsors: Xochimilco, Turasky's Meats, Midstate Meat Co., Delaney's, Franny's, Trail Blazers Pub, Northern Lights, Cheers, VFW, Stockyard Saloon, Converse Street Bar, Show-Me's, Top Cats Chill & Grill, Bunn Co., JD's Cues and Brews, and Kains Kustom Creations. The raffle tickets are a major fundraising undertaking for the school and parish and we are asking you to make every effort to sell these, not just to people in the parish, but to anyone you happen to know. As we have stated many times, tuition only covers half of the cost to educate one child, and this is a new initiative to help us meet those costs of education. Tickets are $20, with a payout of $5, on Thursday, December 20. Thank you to those who have already purchased tickets! The next Early Bird awards of $100 will be Thursday, December 6. Tickets are also be available at the parish and school office for sale. A special thanks to Staab Funeral Home and O Connor Mailing for sponsoring this event and tickets printed courtesy of HSHS-Hospital Sisters Health Systems Yearbooks: Hurry and get the yearbook for $20 before the price goes up!
