This week, we hear from Year 1/2 Salmon and Year 3 Cyan. Our students are doing some amazing work in their rooms which I can t wait for you all to see. Our first P&C meeting for 2018 will be held on Monday evening, 19th February at 5pm in our staff room. All parents and community members are very welcome to come along. Whole School Assemblies A special part of the school routine is the whole school assembly at which parents and community are invited to attend. We will be holding special whole school assembly Monday 26th February 9.20am to present the School Captains, Vice Captains, Prefects and Sports House Captains with their badges. Swimming trophies will also awarded to the age champions who were successful at our School Swimming Carnival and also to the overall winning house. The canteen will provide morning tea afterwards. Easter at Macksville PS Yes, the Easter Eggs are coming out early and here at Macksville PS we are starting to plan for our annual Easter events. This year we will be having the annual Easter Hat Parade as well as our P&C Easter Raffle. We have started to visit the local preschools to invite them to come along and will be starting to take donations for this raffle. Our parade will be held on Thursday 29th March so save the date, we d love to see you at this event. Gold Coast Titans Visit Macksville, we ve done it again. The Gold Coast Titans were very impressed with the behaviour and respect our students showed when they came to visit last Friday. Our Year 3-6 students enjoyed being in the hall, answering and asking questions about Wellbeing, including mental and physical Wellbeing, discussing Nutrition and a sense of belonging. 3 School Swimming Carnival Last week s School Swimming Carnival was a great success! Student participation was high and it was fabulous to see students displaying excellent behaviour and supporting their house team. Congratulations to Pope who won the overall points for the day. Qualifying students who swam in individual and team events will attend the District Swimming Carnival on 23rd February at Macksville & District Swimming Pool. Some of our Champions News from the Library Library has started and books are being borrowed! Please ensure that your child has a library bag to keep their books safe, with their name clearly marked on it. Book Club: Book club has also started for Order forms are due back this Thursday 15th February. Please return the completed order form to the Library with the correct money, name and class on the order. Loop orders Book club also has an app called Book Clubs LOOP For Parents. This app is an easy way for parents to order and pay for their child s book club order. There is no need to worry about handing in any order forms. Just follow the instructions on how to set up your LOOP app today. 4 WEEKLY CLASS REPORT Each week we will be having one of our amazing student journalists share the exciting things being learnt in the MPS classrooms. This week we have 1/2 Salmon and 3 Cyan Welcome to 2018 I know that 1/2 Salmon is looking forward to an exciting year ahead! As I imagine all the wonderful classes at MPS are also. Last week we established our class routines and got all of our groups organised. The students worked on some writing based on our text of the week I am absolutely not big enough for school. They also had to figure out the secret message that Lola left them every day. Lola (the main character in the text) reminded the students of the importance of learning to read. The students have been using the different spaces in our room for reading, maths and literacy activities. Below and on MPS Facebook page are photos of the students in action. They love working in small groups and completing the tasks set for them. I have been very impressed with the way they share and help each other. I know that 1/2 Salmon is going to have a fantastic year. Proud to be a part of the Family School

5 WEEKLY CLASS REPORT Each week we will be having one of our amazing student journalists share the exciting things being learnt in the MPS classrooms. This week we have 1/2 Salmon and 3 Cyan Adventures in 3N Hi and welcome to 3N, where our theme is Harry Potter and we all learn magically. Our room looks wand-erful! Miss Norville is a great teacher we all love her. She teaches us lots and is kind to all. We are grateful to have her as our teacher this year. Our focus books are Roald Dahl s Matilda and JK. Rowling s famous Harry Potter. Our book shelf is in the right corner in our room. We have a reading corner with lounges and of course, Harry Potter pillows. We have many Harry Potter hangings around the room such as envelopes hanging that say Harry Potter, the cupboard under the stairs, hanging candles and house banners. In the classroom, we have a V.I.P. The V.I.P sits at a special desk and does things like giving out points and wearing a cloak and house tie. I hope you enjoy our magical room!
