2 Brightspace Brightspace (D2L) is now activated for the grade 7-9 students. Each junior high teacher designs the Brightspace site for the subjects they teach. You are encouraged to visit this site with your son or daughter on a consistent basis as it will keep you up to date with your child s progress, content being covered in the class, assignments, rubrics and any other items you may need to promote success in the subject for your child. All students know their login information. If parents or students are having issues with the site you can contact our vice-principal, charlene.bobyn@cssd.ab.ca Grade 6 Food Drive During our Thanksgiving season we are going to be asking our students to bring in non-perishable food items to donate to the food bank at Holy Name Parish. All homerooms will have a box or location in their classroom where they can collect these food items in the weeks leading up to our Thanksgiving celebration. A few days prior to the liturgy, grade 6 students will be around to collect these food items which we will present as a school to Holy Name Parish.

3 Cross country The cross country season, although short, produced some great runners for both the district meet and city finals. At the district meet on Sept. 28, St. Gregory sent 140 students from grade 7-9 which is 40% of our junior high population. The runners finished FIRST for both boys and girls grade 8 and 9 and SECOND for both boys and girls grade 7. GATOR PRIDE!!! GREAT JOB ST. GREGORY Any runners who finished in the top ten at the four district meets will have the opportunity to race at the city finals held on October 6 th at Ascension school. Terry Fox Run We are so proud of St. Gregory students for their dedication and participation in the annual Terry Fox Run. This year our Gators raised over $3000, running for friends and family battling cancer. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success! Big thanks to Ms. Wilson and Ms. Thompson and the grade 6 classes who did so much prep for the run. As is tradition, St. Gregory ran with focus and pride, demonstrating what it means to run humbly with God!

5 Drink Milk Moo Club Presents Scratch and Win Cards in the lunch room or during snack break in class period 3. The program will start September 26 and run through the month of. If we see Students drinking milk they will get a scratch and win card from Alberta Milk to win prizes! Information for receiving prizes will be on the scratch and win card. Thank you to the noon hour assistants for seeing milk or milk products in the lunch room and handing out the cards. After School Program At program we will work on understanding what it means to be a good friend and neighbour through different crafts, activities and adventures around the community. 6 Jacket Racket 2016 The CTF Charity Club is proud to organize a Jacket Racket Collection Campaign this fall. We are inviting our students and parents to participate in a coat drive for Jacket Racket. They accept gently used warm winter jackets, snow pants, hats and mittens for all ages. Jacket Racket is a volunteer organization with the goal of ensuring that every child from Kindergarten to Grade 12 has a warm winter coat to wear to school. 90% of donations come from schools. The jackets are then distributed to children in schools where there is a need. A box will be set up in the foyer for collection from OCTOBER 11 TO NOVEMBER 4. We encourage you to generously support this worthy project. It is a great opportunity to help students who may be less fortunate. Classes have begun for Confirmation candidates in Grade 9 to Grade 12. Classes begin the last week in September for Confirmation candidates in Grade 6 to Grade 8. Confirmation Mass is November 23, 2016 at 7:00 pm CWL Pie Sale October 1 & 2 after all Masses RCIA - a journey in our Catholic Faith continues on Tuesday evenings at 6:45 pm. This is a call to anyone who would like to learn more about Catholicism and possibly enter into full membership of the Catholic Faith. Contact the Parish office for further information. Baptism course takes place on the last Monday of every month. If you have a newborn or child who has not received this sacrament, please contact the Parish office to make arrangements for the course and to baptize your child into a life with God. Sunday School and Liturgy of the Word for Children programs have started and take place during the 11:00 am Mass. Once again this year we are using the acclaimed SEEDS and GOOD NEWS programs. SEEDS is for children 3 to 5 years old and GOOD NEWS is for children in Grade 1 to Grade 4. Join fellow parishioners for a cup of coffee following the 9:00 am and the 11:00 am Masses each weekend. 8 Gator Sandwich Team Grade 8/9 Leadership class made approximately 50 loaves of peanut and jelly sandwiches for the Calgary Drop-In Center on Thursday. Thank you to the many students for the generous donations to this cause. YOU have helped St. Gregory School make a difference in the lives of those in need.
