St Joseph s School provides a co-educational faith based Catholic education to students from Prep to Year 6. We celebrate and value the gifts and talents of all students, parents and staff. We provide an innovative learning environment to develop successful, confident and creative individuals. Our Catholic tradition is celebrated through the Religious Life of the School. We develop students' academic, artistic, sporting and cultural pursuits, in the light of the Gospel values. Our school promotes positive parent engagement and strengthens meaningful connections with the wider community including our Jubilee Parish. We are committed to a whole school approach for Positive Behaviours for Learning where students Stay Safe, Take Responsibility, Actively Learn and Respect Self and Others. We make learning visible by promoting our Dispositions for Learning: Persist, Reflect, Take Risks, Collaborate and Connect. The Franciscan Sisters began the school in 1938 and since then St Joseph's School has been steeped in this tradition and ethos. In light of this history, St Joseph's embraces sustainable practices and stewardship of creation as we nurture active and informed global citizens. 2 Characteristics of the student body St Joseph's Bardon is situated in a catchment area where the majority of our students come from middle to high socio- economic, English-speaking families. The religious background of our students is mostly Catholic and families from other Christian denominations. A number of our students have previously lived or traveled overseas. At St Joseph's in 2016, we had 18 classes across Prep to Year 6. 3 Curriculum - our extra curricula activities Sacramental Program run through the Jubilee Parish Chess Club Netball Club, Kilometre Club and Athletics Club Gardening Club, Homework Club Speech & Drama before school lessons, Dance Troupe, Physical Culture. Instrumental Specialists, Strings Ensembles Sporting organisations running programs before and after school: Marital Arts, AFL, Hockey, Soccer, Cricket, Basketball Minecraft Club, ICT Explorers, Tournament of the Minds, Maths Olympiad Tennis Lessons before school Library Lovers Mornings: parents & students come to the library before school to celebrate literature Parent, student and teacher satisfaction St Joseph's use a range and diverse way of gathering constructive and critical feedback. Various methods include: surveys designed for all stakeholders, i.e. students, parents and staff alike, to share comments, thoughts and feedback on school direction, strategic goals and initiatives. Both formal and informal methods of communication are utilised including conversations at Parents & Friends monthly meetings, informal conversations on school grounds at key times i.e. after assembly, before school duty, at school events and in the daily interactions of school life. Information shared on school assembles, parent portal, parent information evenings and via the school newsletter allows for stakeholders to be well informed of school direction and this transparency provides an avenue for stakeholders to share their feedback, perspective and thoughts on school direction. Our philosophy is to cultivate a collaborative culture and to have open, honest, positive partnerships. We value and promote "student voice", our Student Council play an important role within our school. The active presence of the leadership team within the school grounds means the principal and APRE are readily available. Parent engagement "Better Together" is our school mantra in promoting and valuing the cultivating of collaborative culture. We understand that parents are the first educators of their children. Their positive partnership and engagement is widely nurtured in our school. Our Parents and Friends Association are a genuine presence in our school where they initiate both social and fundraising school events. This extends to a Parent Care and Concern group who support the wellbeing of families in need. Our school tuckshop operates on a parent volunteer basis which creates a positive parental engagement that benefits both those volunteering and the students. School events warmly welcome and encourage parental involvement and attendance i.e. school carnivals, extra curricular activities, excursions, incursions, St Joey's Athletics & Netball club etc. Nurturing the faith element in our school is partnered by parents attendance and participation in religious events such as whole school mass, assembly prayer, class prayer, sacramental program and community prayer. The classroom environment is inclusive of parents and is enriched by their partnership in authentically engaging in their child's learning journey. ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT

4 SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS Achievements - progress towards goals In 2016, we focused on the following key strategic direction: Evangelisation and Faith Formation, Curriculum Design & Implementation, Work Culture (Professional Practice & Collaborative Relationships) & Strategic Information Management. The achievements in these areas can be viewed on our St Joseph's School website: Future outlook In 2017, we will advance student progress and achievement by improving literacy and numeracy teaching practice in every classroom, resourcing and providing professional support for effective and expected teaching practices. To improve and enhance the learning and teaching collaborative culture implementing a professional learning strategy as an integrated approach to leadership development with a focus on Catholic community, coherence, collective responsibility and capacity building. Our school and teachers are legally required to monitor and record attendance on a daily basis: absent or present in class, on excursion or at a school based activity. Legal guardians have a legal obligation, as set out in the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, to ensure a child is enrolled and attends school. We work in partnership with our parents to promote and monitor student attendance and we follow up unexplained and prolonged absences.
