Thank you to our community support with our many fundraising activities. We have purchased stand up desks and technology activities to share with all grades. I need to share that I will be off during the month of December with minor surgery. Ms Howe (our LRT) will be our acting principal during my absence. We will have teachers covering her Learning Resource Role during the month. I will return on Jan 7th back to our school full time. Lunch Lady 6 Sub Days 13 Holiday Shop PJ Day 14 Cookie Dough Delivery 18 Concert 19 Turkey Lunch 20 During the month of December, the student council will be selling cookie grams from December 10-14th for $0.50 each. 2 School Council is running a Poinsettia Plant Fundraiser. 6 and 8 poinsettia s are available from The Watering Can, Vineland. The ordering template is available at School Cash online. Please support our Basket Raffle during the week of Dec 12th-19th. Our draw will be on Thursday Dec 20th. Tickets details will follow soon. Funds raised support programs in our classrooms in the area of Science and Technology this year. We have decided to rotate our fundraising focus over 3 years. Year 1 Science/Tech, Year 2 Sports, Year 3 Arts. Our next meeting will be January 17 at 6:30pm in our Library. Childcare is available by our grade 8 students. Life-Threatening Allergies/Anaphylaxis At Jacob Beam, we have students who have severe and life-threatening allergies to a variety of things, particularly peanuts/nuts, perfume/scents, and bee stings. We need your help in creating the safest possible learning environment for all students. Please do not send in any food items containing/or may contain peanuts or nuts. Please consider celebrating special events with non-food items, e.g. special pencils instead of cupcakes. We encourage all children to wash their hands thoroughly after eating and several times during the day. Please try to avoid wearing perfume/cologne if you are staying in the school for any length of time. Bengal Sports November has been a month of Volleyball. Congratulations to our Intermediate teams for working well together and playing with heart in all of their games. Both the Intermediate Girls and Boys team enjoyed a day at the DSBN tournament. Our girls will be playing in Super Volleyball night against the best in the Board early in December. Our Junior season is just wrapping up. This year the focus in our junior sports has been skill development so that more kids can learn the game. Thank you to Mr Raptis and Mr Hannahson, Mr. Robinson and Ms Penley for coaching. Intermediate Basketball will begin in the New Year! Again this year students will be able to enjoy a Turkey Lunch. On Thursday December 20th at Noon, as part of the Colour House initiative students will sit and enjoy lunch with their colour team. All students will be eating together. Lunch will be $5.00/ student for all who are able. The ordering is available at School Cash On-Line or from the office. We look forward to sharing this special time with all of our students!! They may bring their own lunch if they wish.
3 Snow Policy At Jacob Beam, students are aware that snow must be enjoyed in a safe manner. Snowballs and/or ice may not be thrown at any time. Children may not slide on the ice. All snow forts and snow people are community structures and must be inclusive. Students are also aware that we build at Jacob Beam; we don t destroy. Snow forts and structures must be respected. Our progressive discipline policy is in effect for snow infractions. Inclement Weather There may be times during the school year where inclement weather or other situations could cause transportation cancellations or school closures. At times when student transportation has been cancelled and schools remain open, the decision of whether or not to have children in school on that day rests with the parent or guardian. Should you decide not to send your child to school in the event that transportation is cancelled but schools remain open, or if your child is ill or late, please ensure that you call the school to inform us of your child s absence A key resource in any emergency is the DSBN Emergency Information form that you filled out at the beginning of the school year. Please let the school know of any changes in contact information or procedures you wish to be followed throughout the school year. Information on school closures is available on the DSBN website: the transportation website: and from all local radio stations. From Public Health ~~ Clean Your Hands Cleaning your hands is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs. Regular hand cleaning with soap and water, or an alcohol based hand sanitizer will reduce the risk of getting sick. Cleaning your hands should occur: Before preparing meals ~~ Before eating ~~ After using the washroom After coughing or sneezing ~~ After blowing your nose ~~ After playing with pets After playing outdoors Use warm water and soap and lather and scrub for at least 15 seconds if your hands are visibly dirty. For more information, talk to your school nurse or go to
