All year levels are back into dance mode with the Footsteps program continuing, our Year 6 students visited the Shrine yesterday, Music classes are full steam ahead learning songs and movements for our production of Pirates of the Curry Bean and Year 4s are looking forward to their upcoming camp. Applications have also been received from some of our Year 5 and 6 students (as well as teachers), hoping to represent our school on the Japanese Study Tour. This is only mentioning a few of the significant happenings across Chatham. School Council On Monday night our Chatham School Council members participated in Governance Training together. Two other schools joined us on our training night so the discussion was lively and vibrant as we learnt about the roles and responsibilities, legislative requirements, supporting work in strategic planning, finance, policy development and review. I believe I speak for all of our Council members when I say that we learnt much and have a clearer understanding on how to support the school in achieving the best possible outcomes for students. We meet again next week to continue the regular work of School Council and its sub-committees. A Reminder In the last newsletter, I mentioned how important it is to sign in and out at the office upon arrival and departure from school. Alongside this, we also keep copies of all Working with Children cards to ensure those who volunteer in any capacity, for example, in classrooms, on excursions, at stalls such as Mothers Day stalls, all have current Working with Children cards. This is in accordance with Department of Education and Training protocols. If you know you have a card that is not on the school register, please pop in and show it to Sue or Trent in the office. They will take a photocopy and add you to our register. This is one other way to assist in keeping our students safe. We really appreciate your assistance with this. Holiday Works We made the most of this holiday period, having various works completed around the school. There were many different trades people here during the past two weeks. Completed projects included: oval maintenance, new fences built on the western boundary, test and tag of all electrical equipment, maintenance of emergency and outdoor lighting, testing of electrical circuits, servicing of fridges, freezers and the oven in the canteen, plus the replacement of fire extinguishers across the school. It certainly was a busy place at Chatham Primary during this time. It did feel like we were on a bit of a roll getting some of these important maintenance and project works completed. If you happen to notice anything requiring maintenance, please drop a note into the office for me and we can add it to our list, which the Building and Grounds sub-committee has been compiling. Some works take time and expertise, other works we may be able to complete at various working bees with your help. Pupil Free Day in Term 2 Friday 8 th June is a Pupil Free Day. There is no school for students on this date. Please ensure you mark this date on your calendar. On this day, our teaching teams will continue their work with our FISO (Framework for Improving Student Outcomes) schools: Canterbury and Auburn Primary Schools. Assembly Tomorrow Miss Kirwan has something special she is going to show us all at assembly tomorrow. She applied for this special something several years ago for our school. It surprised her greatly, arriving in the school mail this week. It s a great story to hear! I have to admit that I ve had a sneak peek. You will need to wait until assembly tomorrow. 3 YEAR 6 EXCURSION TO THE SHRINE AND THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA On Wednesday, 18th April on a beautiful sunny day, the Year 6 students travelled by train from Chatham Station to Flinders Street Station in the city. The students then walked to the Shrine to learn more about WW! To compliment our study of Conflict and the ANZACS. During the presentation the students dressed up as soldiers and nurses, and handled the equipment used by the soldiers at Gallipoli. They learnt many facts about this time in Australian history. After leaving the Shrine we walked to the National Gallery of Victoria to see painting, sculptures and exhibitions. It was a fabulous day and the students behaviour was excellent both out in public and on the train.

7 Cross Country Running Training with Marcus from M Power Personal Fitness These sessions are designed to help prepare students for the School Cross Country events, to improve their running ability and fitness levels. Tuesday 1 May 2018 at 7.15pm Glen Iris Uniting Church Hall Your local environment group Lighter Footprints is holding a Community Forum on Tuesday 1 May at 7.15pm to talk about Cheaper Electricity and Clean Energy. We invite you to come along to the Glen Iris Uniting Church Hall at 200 Glen Iris Road to hear our three speakers. They will share their expertise on this topic, comment on policies of the major political parties and map pathways for achieving energy affordability and a safe climate.
