Another busy and exciting week with our Junior excursion to Scienceworks yesterday, great fun though very busy in the traffic and with other schools at the venue. Thank you to all of our parent helpers. Today, of course, is our Senior Production of Peter Pan and I know that our children will shine. Again my sincere thanks and affirmation of the wonderful work that Mrs Jennifer Kennedy has given to our children s learning, and to all the support we have enjoyed from our parents. A special thank you to Andrea Crossan for her work with our children and to Mrs Georgia De Boef and Mrs Gaye Smith for their tireless attention to our ticketing. Thank you to Alex Papps (you will have seen him on Home and Away and more recently Playschool ) for bringing his expertise to our performance and a special mention of appreciation to Tim Kennedy, Jennifer s husband, for his time and work on our props, both in their construction and transport. I know that all parents appreciate this work and, with me, wish to thank all staff who have contributed to this wonderful opportunity for our children to be showcased. Thank you to those families who attended one of our weekend family masses. It was good to see those who were at the 9:30 liturgy at St. Bernadette s. I would ask that our Catholic families, in particular, make these family masses a priority as the numbers in attendance last weekend were low. Enjoy the coming week. We thank Fr. Mirek for his flexibility as a change in a sporting event for our seniors was the reason for our request. Otherwise our Senior class would have had to miss out on the sporting event. REMINDERS: Senior School production this evening, all tickets were distributed last night so see your classroom teacher if they did not come home. Please keep sending along your Paul s Collect-a-Caps, a box is down in the junior area. Please note change of date for Poor Man s Mass to Thursday 8th November at 9am. Shopping Tour this Saturday 27th October. NEEDED... Looking for Mum/s to take over the buying of Mother s Day & Father s Day stall gifts. Sue Mackintosh will train you and it is a lot of fun! Sue is leaving St B s at the end of 2013 and does not want to see the stalls cease to operate. The children look forward to the stalls and am sure the parents love their gifts too. The orders must be at the Office by 8:45am on Friday. Pick up your orders on Friday afternoon at school pick up time. This is not a fundraiser, just an opportunity for you to buy farm fresh apples.

3 Issue No. 30 Page 3 Compassion, action,social Justice. We are requesting donations of non perishable goods in the form of food items in cans and packaging that has a long shelf life. The goods will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul Society. Please send any non perishable items that your family would like to donate through the baskets that will be in each classroom. POOR MAN S MASS IS NOW THURSDAY 8 TH OF NOVEMBER AT 9:00 AM Please note the new adjusted time for Mass on Thursday the 8th of November. All family members are encouraged to attend.

4 Issue No. 30 Page 4 St Bernadette s School Uniform: Good afternoon all, this week we are going to be looking at socks and shoes and School bags. We will start at the bottom and work our way up until all our children are looking resplendent in their school uniforms. Boys are required to wear black school shoes [NOT BLACK RUNNERS] and grey over the ankle socks with their summer uniform Girls are required to wear black school shoes with white over the ankle socks with their summer uniform. When wearing sports uniform all children are to wear sports shoes/runners and white over the ankle socks. There are a lot of children currently wearing a tennis style sock which sits on or under the ankle. These socks are not part of our uniform. All socks must be over the ankle and therefore visible. All 282 children are required to carry a St Bernadette s School bag. Please ensure that children especially in the senior units have the correct bag. You can ask at the uniform shop to see if there are second hand bags available. I can see no reason why the bag cannot last for its primary school life. Most bags do. Having a school uniform gives us an identity. It means that we belong to a particular school. We are part of a special group of people; we are St. Bernadette s Primary School, The Basin. Parents, I urge you to support us and ensure that your children are dressed in correct uniform.

11 Community News KILSYTH KNOX COUNCIL ELECTIONS DIAMOND SOFTBALL CLUB INC. Will once again be held in St Bernadette s School Hall on 27th October Come and join in the action of this fun and exciting sport. Polling Booths open at 8:00am We need players for: Under 12 s, Under 14 s, Under 17 s, C Grade, B Grade and A Grade. We have positions available in all teams and no experience is necessary.
