3 WHAT S ON WEEK 2 OF TERM 3 Monday 30 th July Tuesday 31 st August Wednesday 1 st August Thursday 2 nd Friday 3 rd S2 Excursion Rumbalara Yr 6 Interrelate S2 Excursion Rumbalara Yr 5 Interrelate ICAS English S2 Excursion Rumbalara Syd Nth Softball Trials S2 Excursion Rumbalara NSW Netball Gala Day S2 PRINCIPAL S REPORT Welcome to Term 3. I am looking forward to another great term at Terrigal Public School. Our new building plans still sit with Central Coast Council but we hope they will go to the Joint Regional Planning Panel this week and that all approvals are finalised over the next couple of weeks. If the approvals do come through I hope that actual work will commence by the end of the term. Three of our Year 6 students have been successful in gaining places in selective high schools for One student has also been placed on the reserve list. Congratulations to those students. Playground markings Over the holidays the playground games and markings in the top playground were refreshed. They look amazing and students have been busy enjoying the games. Thanks to the P & C for funding the refresh from funds raised by the Terrigal Family Fun Fair. National Schools Tree Day This Friday our school will participate in the National Schools Tree Day. We will plant a number of trees and plants around the school. Thank you to Brian Hilton Motor Group for providing the plants. Banjo s Skate Park Part 1 It is great to have the new Banjo s skate park available for our community. Lots of our students are calling by the skate park on their way to school and on the way home. This isn t a problem in itself but I wanted to make parents aware as we have had some students arriving late because they have been at the skate park before school. We have also had parents calling to see where their child is in the afternoons and we have found out they stopped at the skate park on their way home. A quick chat to your child may be appropriate, especially if they ride their scooter to school. Banjo s Skate Park Part 2 - Opening The official opening of Banjos skate park will occur on Sunday 5 th August between 11am and 3pm. There will be live entertainment, food stalls and skate demonstrations. Please also note that part of Willoughby Road will be closed.
4 School Uniform You may have noticed a lot of media this week regarding students being able to wear shorts and pants to school, as part of their uniform, regardless of their gender identity. All students at Terrigal PS have been able to wear shorts or pants to school for the last few years. The shorts or pants just need to conform to the school uniform code. That is they must be grey shorts or pants. The school uniform committee will review the new policy, once we receive a copy, and consider how our current uniform code complies with the new policy. Staffing Update As I mentioned at the end of last term there are some staffing changes this term due to staff taking leave and other roles: Mr Fitzsimmons (Library) replaced by Mrs Ryan Mrs Formby (DP) replaced by Mrs McKay Mrs McKay (IL) replaced by Mrs Slattery Mrs Slattery (2SM) replaced by Mrs Moore Pre-Service Teachers This term we have four early career teachers in our school. These teachers are in their final year of training. We welcome Miss Johnstone (2H), Mrs Kelly (KN), Miss Westwood (4L) and Mr Koch (6K). State Cross Country Good luck to Sienna, Luke, Tyla and Layla as they head off to represent our school and region at the State PSSA Cross Country carnival on Friday. The carnival will be held at Eastern Creek. Bikes, Scooters at School Thank you to those who currently ride to school and are following our guidelines. Below are some reminders about expectations. All students riding bikes/scooters to and from school do so at their own risk. The school takes no responsibility for the safety or security of bikes/scooters at school. Bikes must be placed in the bike racks at the end of KN classroom or left neatly near the bike racks. Scooters may be left outside the student s classroom following the instructions of the class teacher. Students are encouraged to lock their bike up using a chain or other device. Students must wear an Australian safety standard approved helmet. Students in Years 5 & 6 may ride their bike/scooter to school. Students in other grades are not encouraged to ride their bike/scooter to school due to their age and development of ability to detect and react to dangers. If parents decide to allow their younger children to ride to school they should be accompanied by an adult. Students must walk their bike or scooter whilst in the school grounds. They must also walk their bike/scooter across the crossing. Football (Soccer) Our girls football team played at the end of last term. They were successful in their round 4 match and will now move on to round five of the state knockout. Well done to the girls. Congratulations to Mrs McCann on successfully coaching the girls. Girls Netball At the end of last term our netball team played Wamberal PS in the state PSSA knockout. Our team won. Woohoo! Thanks to Miss Barnett for coaching the team. The netball team plays in round 4 of the state knockout this Friday. Good luck to the team. Rugby Our rugby team play their next round of the Bryan Palmer Shield this Friday. We wish them well.
