1 A NEWSLETTER LINKING THE BAYSWATER NORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY From the Principal s Desk PREP TRANSITION We had two lovely mornings last week welcoming some of our new 2019 preps to our school. Mary and Darcie and their prep classes made our new students feel very welcome. The children enjoyed making pin wheels. I had the fortunate opportunity to catch up with our new parents and some parents who already have other children at our school. We are really looking forward to having these future students attending our school. SPORTING CHAMPIONS Our girls and boys softball teams played in divisional finals last week and the boy s softball and the volleyball teams have progressed to the Regional Finals. What a great effort all our students have put in! We wish all our finalists the very best in their upcoming finals! Jordan Knapp has also progressed to Regional finals in triple jump. We wish you all the best Jordan! Thank you to our coaches Jasmine, Sandra and Scott. Our prep to Grade 2 students have just completed their swimming program. It was a huge success! Well done everyone! MURAL One of our former students, Shari is currently updating the mural in the junior courtyard. This mural compliments the fairy garden that was established earlier this year. We are really thrilled with Shari s work! LOCKING GATES Just to let you know we will the locking the school gates at 4.15pm each night. The gate next to the office will be unlocked until 6pm, when the After School Care finishes. BEHIND THE SCENES We have had a very productive start to term 4. The students and teachers are working really hard in their classes so the students can achieve their very best! We are currently reviewing our 2018 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP); planning our 2019 AIP; organizing staff and grade structures for 2019; organising 2019 classroom and student supplies and budgets for next year. MAROONDAH NETWORK INITIATIVES We have visited Ruskin Park Primary School recently to do peer observation on Student Voice in our schools. Last Thursday some of our network schools visited us to gather data for student voice in our school. Kate Wilde presented a transition information workshop to our grade 6 students and their parents, as well as to the families in our local network schools on Wednesday, 24 October at Heathmont East Primary School. It was a very informative but entertaining evening with excellent tips and strategies for both our parents and students. Thank you to Katie and Jasmine for supporting this event. Joanne Wood, Assistant Principal from Tinternvale Primary School will be presenting a Puberty and Personal Development Workshop for our Grade 5/6 students in 3 one hour sessions in the near future. 2 From the Principal s Desk continued WORLD TEACHERS DAY Thank you to our amazing PTFA for providing a special morning tea to celebrate World Teachers Day! The staff enjoyed a delicious spread and appreciated the thoughfulness and genorosity of our school community. GRADE 3 SLEEPOVER A big thank you goes to Caroline, Cathy S, Cathy R and Kathy Ward for arranging the grade 3 mini camp at school last Friday. Everyone had a fantastic time! GRADE 6 CAMP Our grade 6 students will be leaving on 12 November for their 5 day camp. Katie Riley, Jasmine Cook, Scott Hannah, Teresea Rocco and myself will be attending. ENROLMENT We currently have 303 students. 58 grade 6 students are leaving us and we have 49 Prep students enrolled for next year. Thank you to everyone who has been recommending our wonderful school so highly to their friends and families! Cathy Jones Principal Prep Grade 2 Swimming Program The junior swimming program at Vicki Field Swimming School concluded last Thursday. The students enjoyed the swimming lessons, making the most of the opportunity to build their confidence in the water, improve fitness and have fun!

3 Clothing Drive Thankyou to everyone who donated to our latest clothing drive. We collected 575kg of clothing and accessories and raised $ while helping reduce landfill, support Red Nose (formerly SIDS and Kids) research and services and provide employment and affordable clothing to those in need, all while lightening the loads on your wardrobes. Reuse, Reduce, Recycle PTFA Music News Friends of Music Night Tuesday 20 th Nov 6pm Music Room Come along and celebrate our performing/music students work over the year as they perform selected pieces of music they have been working on. This year we will hodl the evening in our music room. Christmas Concert SAVE THE DATE 13 th December Junior Oval Foundation Assembly Performance At our next assembly, our Foundation students will perform a couple of songs that they have been learning. CHOIR to perform at the 51 st OXFAM MUSIC CONCERT in BOX HILL 13, 14 or 15 November 2018 If anyone is interested in coming along, here are the details for tickets: Tickets are $15 per adult and $10 for concession. 4 A BUSY TERM SO FAR Quite a lot has been happening at Breakfast Club since Term 4 started, and we have many plans of activities ahead of us. We have had two Children and Janine Meetings where we discussed our Program and where the children have made some excellent suggestions for future activities we can plan and do. Some of their suggestions are to keep going with the Program Portfolio because they really like it, have a drawing/colouring competition, box construction, Aboriginal Art, courtyard games, pancakes, set up some Christmas decorations, wrap boxes as presents, set up Amy and Brodie s Christmas Tree and make fresh fruit kebabs. In our first meeting, two wonderful comments were made by two children that made us think that there is a very positive feeling about Breakfast Club, particularly when you add them to the positive attitude of the children and the confidence they showed about sharing their ideas. These comments were; I love Breakfast Club and how you make food for us. (Mitchell) I love how you look after us for the morning. (Campbell) From these meetings the children asked to do some Halloween activities, so we changed our plans for last week and instead of what was planned, we created a week of doing Halloween craft. There were no formal designs of what could be made, instead, the children simply used the materials available to create spiders, ghosts, graves, jack-o-lanterns, mummies and a few other clever pieces. We made a Halloween Display Board that we will finish this week. The final touch will be to cover it with spider webs. Please come in and look in the dining room area of Breakfast Club we don t think you will miss the Halloween Board!! Last Term we told you that Josh brought us his 3D Jigsaw Puzzle to do at Breakfast Club. This Puzzle was very challenging and became an outstanding project for us, where we really had to use our brains, eyes and fine motor skills to put the pieces together plus a lot of patience and determination. There were so many skills involved that this very much became an educational experience for the children and myself to conquer. Conquer it we did!! We thank Josh for bringing this Puzzle for us, we gained quite a lot from completing it. After we finished the Puzzle Josh carefully pulled the pieces apart and took it home. Maybe he and his family will work on it there. We would like to share with you an excellent recount of an activity that the children made up on Thursday. The children had made a very special caravan and were keen to tell me all about it. I wrote down what they said We have made a caravan that is a Shield with Super Heroes in it and we are Super Heroes in the caravan. Behind the scenes we are maids. If someone like a villain comes we put our accessories on them to fight the villains. Some villains change back to normal humans. In this play activity, Adelita was Cat Girl and Nate was Mario, Donkey Kong and Spiderman. What a wonderful example of children s imagination, creativity and role playing. This type of play happens a great deal of the time at Breakfast Club and is a joy to see on most mornings. We have seen some of our children s siblings visiting the school for Prep Transition, and it is clear that there are some very excited preschool children who will possibly be joining their older brothers and sisters at Breakfast Club next year. Some of these children have been visiting our room since they were toddlers, so an exciting time ahead for their families. How special!! Thank you, Janine and the Breakfast Club children
