1 Our School Values: RESPECT, RESILIENCE, TEAMWORK & COLLABORATION and COMMUNITY Dear Parents, SCHOOL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS As of 4pm on Monday 18th February we still had 2 parent positions for School Council vacant. At this time the positions will remain vacant with no further extensions for accepting nominations through the School Council nomination process. If you are interested in filling one of the two positions please contact me at your convenience. I would now like to acknowledge our 2019 School Councilors and thank them for committing for the first time or renominating for another two years. Our 2019 School Councilors are: Parent representatives: K athryn Stanislawski, Cindy T aylor, Jason Scott, Sharon M arriott, M egan Elliot, John Wilson, Narelle Kennedy & Daniel Miller. Staff representatives: A lan Gillies, M organ Bamford, R ebecca M agee & Shelly M ay Executive officer: Jason L ee Two parent positions vacant STUDENT LEADERSHIP 2019 SCHOOL CAPTAINS It is with pleasure I announce the following students as our school captains for 2019, Jaslyn J and Todd E. These children were elected by their peers and I look forward to working with them during The students have a very important role to play as representatives of the student body. They are expected to uphold and demonstrate our school values of: Respect, Resilience, Collaboration /Teamwork and Community at all times. Jaslyn and Todd are the voice of the students and will put forth ideas to improve the school through fundraising activities and activities to bring the school community together. I would also like to acknowledge all of the students who nominated for the school captain s leadership roles. They did a fabulous job preparing their speeches and presenting to their peers, all students should be very proud of their efforts and I look forward to also working with these students in some leadership capacity this school year. House Captains & Junior School Council members will be decided by the end of this week. Our school leadership program will extend beyond these areas and other students will have opportunities to demonstrate their leadership skills in the following areas; the Arts, Public Relations, Technology and Sustainability. SCHOOL REVIEW In last week s newsletter, I mentioned that I was preparing to invite parents to meet with our school leadership team on Wednesday 27th at 9.15am. Depending on interest will determine our meeting area. An invitation to attend the parent forum was handed out to your child on Wednesday 20th February. As indicated on the invitation please return to the school office by Monday 25th February. The parent forum will allow our parent body to make comment on HPS s achievements and where we would like to see the school in the years to come. In order to gain this input from parents, I have decided to publish the questions, providing you with a little think time before we meet. The questions include: 1. Would you please share with me areas where you feel the school is performing effectively? 2. Are there processes, procedures or activities where there could be improvement? 3. How does your child feel about his/her learning and in the school as a whole? How do you know this? 20TH FEBRUARY, BRUNEL STREET HUNTLY VIC 3551 PHONE (03) huntly.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au PRINCIPAL MR JASON LEE

Apart from being able to share with the parents some of the activities being undertaken and the reasoning behind certain decision-making I was able to acknowledge and clarify questions about school processes and take on board some ideas to continue to improve our school for all. A couple of key considerations I came away with included how to continue to enhance effective communication across the school and how can we continue to provide opportunities for parents to be involved in school activities. I really enjoyed the conversation and look forward to having a cuppa with our school community members again. PARENTS GROUP MORNING TEA - Friday 1st March Parents group plays an important role within our school community, running fundraising events, special lunch days and providing feedback to School Council to name a few roles. MEDICATION AT SCHOOL Parents please note that all medication, except Ventolin, must be handed in at the school office so that Mrs. Van Riet (who is in charge of First Aid and our Occupational Health and Safety Rep.) can administer it. It will need to be in its original container and a medication request form filled out - these are available from the school office and also on our school website for you to print off at your convenience. Medication instructions cannot be directed verbally through your child, we must have written adult permission. CHILDREN MUST NOT HAVE MEDICATION IN THEIR BAGS LOST CLOTHING It is great to see so many of our lost items with child s name on them. This makes it so much easier to return to the rightful owner. However some of the second hand items that have been rehomed still have their previous wearers name on them. If you have purchased second hand uniforms can you please rename them and remove previous child s name. That way it will find its way back home.
