1 Issue 38-30th November 2017 THIS WEEK S CLASS VISIT: The week I visited Year 1LM where I found students using snakes to estimate and measure the length of shapes. Once they had used their snakes to measure, some students thought that the best way to pack up was to eat them! Learning to measure is far more appetising than it was in my day! CLASS STRUCTURE 2018 Further to last week s newsletter, I include further information regarding classes for Teachers for each class will be announced in due course Classes 2018 Class Size Foundation 2 classes 21, 21 Year 1 3 classes 20, 20, 19 Year 2 2 classes 25, 25 Year 3 2 classes 28, 28 Year 4 2 classes 27, 28 Year 5 3 classes 19, 19, 20 Year 6 2 classes 26, 27 All 16 classes will be straight class. A reminder that if you have any questions regarding 2018, a quick or phone call to me will alleviate a great deal of angst and enable me to answer your queries in full. Parent Information Sessions We will be holding Parent Information Sessions on Monday 18 December at 9.00am and at 6.00pm in the Library. Please feel free to come along and ask any questions you may have regarding 2018 and beyond. Afternoon tea to farewell Mr Rothwell Our parent community are invited to say farewell to Chatham s long serving teacher and Principal Mr Stephen Rothwell. Mr Rothwell has served our school for just on 17 years and our parent community and students have an opportunity to farewell him on Friday 15 December. There will be an afternoon tea for parents in the library from 1.30pm that will be followed by an assembly at 2.30pm where the students will say farewell. All members of our community are invited to attend both the afternoon tea and the assembly. Maintenance Grant Last week we received communication from the Education Minister, Mr Merlino that Chatham has received $ in funding for maintenance works on the Junior School building and for other works around the school. This is wonderful news for our school and we look forward to planning a schedule of works early in the New Year. Staff vs Students Volleyball Match Our traditional end of year staff vs students volleyball match will be held on Friday 22 December at 10.30am. Continued on Page 2.

2 FROM THE PRINCIPAL Cont... Final 2017 Assembly Our final assembly will be held on Friday, 22 nd December from 12.30pm 1.30pm. Our end of year assembly is traditionally a celebration of our Year 6 students, where they perform their graduation song and the whole school has an opportunity to wish them well as they embark on the next stage of their educational journey. At the conclusion of assembly, Year 6 students will exit the hall and receive our traditional Guard of Honour around the paths at the front of the school. The ringing of the school bell will signal the conclusion of the 2017 school year! All students will be dismissed at 1.30pm on this day. Congratulations to Emma Ross who is the Victorian 11 year old State champion on the Floor in gymnastics. 5 "Most of our children here at Chatham are lucky enough to be looking forward to a wonderful Christmas with friends and family, sharing plenty of Christmas treats and gifts under the tree. Unfortunately there will be some children in Boroondara who are not so lucky. Some of these children may not be expecting a visit from Santa to bring them something special on Christmas Day. In the school foyer by the office I have set up a Christmas tree and would love it if you could consider buying just one small extra gift this Christmas which will be donated to Camcare. Camcare is an organisation which supports families in Boroondara who may be experiencing financial hardship or be going through a challenging time. Any gifts donated will be passed on through them to the children who need them most. We ask that all gifts are new and are simply placed unwrapped under the Christmas tree. Gift ideas could be toys and games, books, toiletries or an item of new clothing. Gifts for babies through to teenagers and for both boys and girls will be very gratefully received.
