SANTA CLARITA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL Teaching Minds Training Hearts for God
SANTA CLARITA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL At Santa Clarita Christian School (SCCS) we are committed to partnering with Christian parents of like faith to challenge students minds and train their hearts for God through a distinctively biblical education. SCCS seeks to pursue academic excellence, promote spiritual growth, and encourage character development in order to produce students who are prepared to make a difference in the world for God. SCCS students participate in a week of dress-up days, class competitions, pep rallies and loud fun during Spirit Week.
T e a c h e r s At SCCS, our faculty members not only possess superior academic and teaching abilities, but they are passionate about the students they mentor every day. Averaging over 12 years teaching experience, each of our faculty members are professionally degreed and receive additional training to specifically teach from a Christian worldview. All of the SCCS teachers love the Lord and have a passion for Christian education that challenges the mind, heart and soul. Ongoing training and education help to keep our teachers current and effective in using the best instructional strategies in the classroom. S m a l l Class Size SCCS averages two classes at each grade level. SCCS does not enroll more than 25 students per class and provides additional support and pullout programs to assure a small student-to-teacher ratio. In Kindergarten through 6th grade, each teacher has a teacher s aide that helps in the classroom. These measures are part of our overall program design to make a highly academic program attainable for all students. The teachers at SCCS are our living curriculum.
SCCS OFFERS: Educational Class Field Trips A c a d e m i c Excellence The whole point of a Christian school is to teach students about God s creation and what mankind has produced and revealed about Him through literature, mathematics, science, and history. We seek to do everything to the best of our ability, holding ourselves to the highest standards and executing everything with excellence because of the God we represent. We want to surpass standards and send our students into the world well-equipped to think clearly, present and defend their views and faith, work hard, and stand strong before the world. GOALS: O u r aim is to develop Students who are independent learners Students who are critical thinkers Students who can write and speak effectively Honors & Advanced Placement Classes Dual Credit Enrollment Academic Competitions Competive Sports Teams Choir & Band Science with Labs SAT Prep Classes College Counseling Individual Academic Support Three Years of Spanish Elementary Computer Classes & Computer Lab Theatre Arts Culinary Arts Students who take the most rigorous course loads and aspire to gain acceptance into 4 year colleges and universities Students who are consistently admitted to a college or university Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it. 5 S p i r i t u a l Growth Paramount to all we do at SCCS is to mature young boys and girls in their relationship with Christ. We seek to do this by partnering with like-minded families in fulfilling the admonition of Deuteronomy 6:5-7. These words, which I am Daily, in every class, every subject, and commanding you today, every activity, our aim is to make the gospel clear to our students. Our greatest shall be on your heart. desire is to see each young person love You shall teach the LORD their God with all their heart them diligently to your sons soul and might. At SCCS we teach all subjects from a Christian Worldview and shall talk of them when which helps our students understand that you sit in your house and God and our faith is seen and integral to every subject and area of life, not just when you walk Bible class. These values are accentuated by the way and when you lie by weekly chapels, spiritual life retreats, and service projects. down and when you rise up. Additionally, we believe that spiritual Deuteronomy 6:6- NASB growth extends from spiritual leadership and modeling. Every morning SCCS staff meet for devotions and prayer. Keeping students and their families in prayer, as well as our own hearts focused on our mission, helps SCCS to be a Philippians 2 community where fellowship and unity of the Spirit exists. 6 D e v e l o p i n g Servant Hearts - iserve Every Spring, SCCS junior and senior high students volunteer during a unique, two-day event called iserve. iserve begins with the help of SCCS teachers who select locations and activities that are closest to their hearts. These service projects are then presented to the students in a special kick-off chapel. I want to be a servant like Jesus. With eager hearts, SCCS mounts an army of student volunteers who go out into the community and serve others by cooking meals, making baby blankets for single moms, playing games and eating with the elderly, digging trenches and building fences, to name a few. At SCCS we see the importance of developing servant hearts, building leadership qualities and making faithful disciples for Christ; attitudes that will stay with the students through their school years and into adulthood....for whatever you have done to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done to Me. Matthew 25:40 I decided I would rather go and help the needy instead of just sending money.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory C r e a t i v e Expression Man was made in the image of a creative God. All we see around us is an expression of God s majesty and splendor. Romans 1:19-20 even tells us that God s attributes, power, and divine nature are expressed and seen though His creative masterpiece. There is probably no greater way for believers to reveal the splendor of our Savior than through the Arts. At SCCS we help develop these talents in such a way as to not bring vain glory to the individual but praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. In the elementary program we encourage creative expression through visual art, music and band pull-out times within school hours and after school enrichment music and elementary choir. Secondary students have opportunity to pursue their interests in photography/graphic arts, yearbook, creative writing, performing arts/drama, choir, drawing class, and worship band. The entire campus and community are blessed through art festivals, choir performances, drama productions, and worship times. God s attributes, power, and divine nature are expressed and seen though His creative masterpiece.
SPORTS OFFERED: A t h l e t i c s Athletics is an important extension of SCCS. As an extension of the school, our goal is to mature students through hard work, discipline and conduct that is glorifying to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Athletics provides valuable lessons for our students, such as: teamwork, sportsmanship, winning with dignity, losing with grace and the satisfaction of working hard. Our program exists to develop student s hearts and minds through participation in interscholastic athletics. As Christians we have the responsibility to be witnesses of our faith. SCCS athletics provides that perfect opportunity. 10 A l u m n i story Rachel Stroud (2006) College(s) Attended: Westmont College ( 06-08); Purdue University ( 08-10); Emory University ( 10-11) Career Pursuit: Registered Dietitian Looking back over the course of my college and post-college years, I am truly grateful for my decision to go through high school at SCCS. The size of SCCS is what I am most thankful for as I reflect on my experience. Being at a small high school where teachers know and care about their students and where opportunities abound, I was empowered to believe that I could earn leadership roles and be successful at them. I would love to say that I would have had the confidence to pursue these same opportunities at a large public high school, but today I know that I wouldn t have. Because of the opportunities I had to impact my student body and throw myself into a myriad of extracurricular activities, I gained the skills and, more importantly, the confidence to pursue these in college as well. My other concern upon entering SCCS was whether a small school could adequately challenge me academically. I was a kid who loved learning, and I worried about whether my appetite could be satiated at SCCS and whether I would be prepared to take on the rigors of college academics. My degree program in college was heavily math/science based, so I can speak to my preparedness in these arenas most credibly. For all of my classes, I was extremely well prepared. My teachers at SCCS provided a safe environment for asking questions and personally invested in my success. As a Registered Dietitian in the medical community today, I can see that it has been a long path of academics to be where I am today. That path started at SCCS. I took the chance on SCCS s size for the rich blessing of having teachers who were committed in their hearts and jobs to serving Jesus, and in the end, it ended up being an integral part of shaping who I am today and the impact I believe I can have on the world around me. We know that choosing the school that is right for your family is a process that requires prayer and perseverance and we are honored that you are considering SCCS for your child s education.
