1 SENIOR PARENT MEMO Parent Meeting & Graduation 2018 Mandatory May 2 Parent Meeting GRADUATION TICKETS DISTRIBUTED AT MAY 2 MEETING At the end of the May 2 parent meeting, you will receive an envelope with five tickets -- four reserved seats for the main auditorium and one general admission. The four tickets for the main auditorium are randomly selected, predetermined seats by row and number. We understand that there are many families with extenuating circumstances such as dual households and extended families. Unfortunately, class size limits each graduate to five tickets. In order to keep the focus on making your child's graduation as positive an experience as possible, please determine which parent or guardian will draw the envelope and how you will divide the tickets among family members prior to our meeting on the 2nd. If you know you will not be using all five tickets, return the unused tickets to us. Contact Mrs. Bruinooge directly to request additional tickets. She will create a waiting list. Wait-list tickets w i l l b e d i s t r i b u te d a t t h e f i r s t graduation rehearsal. If you or one of your guests require handicapped seating or interpreter services, please call Mrs. Bruinooge ( ) prior to May 2nd. Once tickets have been distributed at this meeting, we will not be able to a c c o m m o d a t e re q u e s t s f o r specialized seating. A meeting for all parents of members of the Class of 2018 will be held in the high school auditorium on Wednesday, May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to signup to volunteer to assist with s e n i o r we e k a c t i v i t i e s. T h e agenda follows: 1. Mr. Davies and the Senior Class Advisors will summarize Senior Week activities. 2. The class parents will discuss their needs for help in running the various activities. 3. Caps, gowns and graduation tickets will be distributed. This is a mandatory meeting for all parents/guardians to help us ensure that the Class of 2018 ends its stay in Mountain Lakes High School successfully. CLASS OF 2018 FINANCES Class of 2018 parents have been diligent in meeting the assessment fee responsibility. However, there are several seniors who have outstanding financial obligations. meeting. Outstanding assessment fees will prevent you from collecting your child s cap & gown and graduation tickets. A separate letter to your home will be sent next week if you still owe. It is best to resolve outstanding fees prior to the May 2nd The assessment fee covers prom, graduation, and senior week events. Students will be held responsible for this amount even if they do not plan to take part in any senior week activities. PAGE 1

3 CALENDAR OF EVENTS May 2 (W) Senior Parent Meeting - 7:30pm Auditorium May 1 & 2 (T&W) Senior Prom Tux Rentals during lunch periods (10:30-1:00) in Cafeteria May 21 (M) CLASS TRIP to the Bronx Zoo. Seniors will leave at 8am and return by 2:30pm. Permission forms due at the May 2 parent meeting. June 4-5 (M-T) Senior Exams June 6 (W) MOVING UP DAY. (9:00am) Parents are invited to attend. Seniors are expected in semi-formal attire. Seniors to report at 8:00am for rehearsal: come fully dressed, no break between rehearsal and Moving Up Day. June 7 (TH) SENIOR PROM, Westin Governor Morris, Morristown, NJ (7:00 11:30pm). Students must arrive no later than 8:00pm and must stay until 11:30pm. Hors d'oeuvres will be served starting at 7:00pm and a full dinner will be provided. Seniors must sign up for the prom by Wednesday, May 23, Non-senior guests will be charged $90. All guests are subject to administrative approval. Guest contracts are available in the main office. June 8(F) Brunch and Yearbook signing. (12:00pm, Auxiliary Gym) June 10 (Sun) BACCALAUREATE (Auditorium) 4:30 p.m. - Seniors report to Auxiliary Gym in semi-formal attire. 5:00 p.m. - The Baccalaureate is a celebration of the Class of Parents, family, and friends are invited to attend. Students may change to casual clothes after dinner. Seniors must arrive at the Dessert & R & R house no later than 9:00pm. Carpooling is strongly suggested as parking is limited. Time Capsules will be opened at the R&R house at 9:45pm. A number of students have moved into town following the creation of these time capsules and we ask that you create a time capsule for your graduate. June 11 (M) Senior to Senior Luncheon: 11:30am - St. Catherine's Church, Mountain Lakes June 12 (T) June 13 (W) CLASS TRIP to Jenkinson s Beach, Point Pleasant. Seniors will leave at 8:00am and return at approximately 5:00pm. Permission forms due by Friday, June 1st. Please Note: Raindate: Wednesday, 6/13/18. If it rains on June 12, seniors are expected to attend graduation rehearsal. Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal 10:00 12:00pm Girls: graduation shoes. Boys: no special dress. This is the BEACH TRIP RAIN DATE. June 14 (TH) Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal. 10:00-12:00pm Girls: shoes and caps. Boys: caps. June 15 (F) Graduation 6:45pm - All seniors report to the Auxiliary Gym. Full Dress. 7:30pm - COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES - Auditorium. Seniors will march in promptly at 7:30pm. 8:45pm - Reception immediately following Commencement. Hosted by the Class of :30pm - Project Graduation.... Can t Wa18 to Graduate! all night party sponsored and supervised by Project Graduation Committee. Prizes, games, fun, and camaraderie.

5 Graduation Rehearsals are Mandatory ATTENTION PROM ATTENDEES... Bella Sposa Bridal of Denville will be at Mo u n t a i n L a ke s h i g h school for Tuxedo fittings. Bella Sposa will donate $25.00 per rental to Project Graduation! Fittings will be held May 1st a n d Ma y 2 n d, 11:00am-1:00pm in the MLHS cafeteria lobby. Rental fees: Tuxedo with shoes: $ Anyone who misses rehearsals will not be permitted to receive his/ her diploma with the class. The Senior's parent must notify Mr. Davies in advance of each rehearsal if attendance presents an extreme hardship. Students will not be allowed to take part in graduation rehearsals and the graduation ceremony until all outstanding obligations (activity assessment, book fines paid, librar y books returned, athletic equipment returned, etc.) have been settled. Dress Requirements At graduation when Seniors are wearing caps and gowns, we require that girls and boys wear shoes and that boys wear socks, trousers, light colored shirts and ties. At the Progressive Dinner, required dress is as follows: dresses and white shoes for girls; shoes, socks, trousers, shirts, jackets and ties for boys. Students may change after dinner and before dessert into more casual clothing. At the Senior Prom, boys may wear formal wear, suits, or sports jackets. College Orientations/ Summer Employment All seniors should be involved in all activities described in the calendar of events. We understand that seniors are excited to plan their college schedules and attend orientation at their new schools. However, these visits should not be scheduled during required senior activities, especially graduation practice. The same goes for summer employment. Students should not begin working during the day until Monday, June 26. Students who have skipped graduation practice are extremely nervous during the ceremony and invariably make mistakes during the graduation ceremony. We have made the schedule as respectfully as we can, please honor it and mark your calendar carefully now. Thank you for all of your support through this exciting time in our seniors lives!
