Last Thursday we celebrated our PBS Turtle Ticket target, reaching tickets, with a colour run, whole school picnic and movie. Our colour run obstacle course created by Mr Mackenzie, was awesome, with students, parents and staff all enjoying the day. It was wonderful to see students happy, cooperating and joining into all the activities which were spread across the school. A big thank you to Mr Mackenzie for organising the event and to staff who supported and assisted with this. To quote what one of our students said to me, This is the best day of my life!. This is what we strive for at Yakamia. It was great to see so many smiles and to hear laughter. Our Pursuit of Excellence assembly was also on Thursday. Well done to the students who achieved this prestigious award. These students have consistently strived to do their personal best in both their work and behaviour in all learning areas. Thank you to Mrs Walmsley for her continued support in donating the medals for this award. We truly appreciate your support and commitment to pursuing excellence in our school. Thank you also to our P&C who catered for the winners morning tea, your support was much appreciated. Next Wednesday 12 December we will be celebrating the graduation of our Year 6 students. The Graduation Ceremony will commence at 1:00pm in the hall. Students are required to wear their graduation shirts and green bottoms. There will be an afternoon tea after the ceremony for family and friends of the graduating students. We look forward to seeing families at this event.

2 Page 2 Continued: Thank you to those students and families who participated in the annual City of Albany Christmas Pageant. We had 67 students proudly represent Yakamia and did a wonderful job of marching in their Aussie Christmas gear. Thank you to Mrs Sandy for coordinating this event and creating our mini-float. It was a great evening. Thank you to those families who donated a gift for families in need. These have been delivered to a local charity to support those Albany families this Christmas and they were very thankful for your kindness and generosity. We appreciate the parents and community who have supported and helped in our school this year. To show our appreciation, we will be holding our Volunteers Morning Tea on Tuesday 11 December. We invite all parents and community members who have helped in our school to this event commencing at 10:20am in the staffroom. Book Lists for 2019 have now been sent home with students. If you did not receive your child s list please contact the office. The books lists are also available on our website: Albany Office Products Depot is our preferred supplier and if purchases are made from them, they will donate 15-20% back to our school, which is a fantastic way to support Yakamia PS. This week our Year 6 students are at Camp Quaranup enjoying a range of activities including canoeing, raft making, archery and team building games. A big thank you to Mr Stamp, Miss Scott and Mr Harwood for overseeing the camp. Thank you to the staff and parents who have volunteered to stay overnight and those who have gone out to visit and work with the students. The support of staff and parents allows our students to participate in this fantastic opportunity. We look forward to hearing all about their experiences when they return. Semester 2 Reports will be going home on Wednesday 12 December. Please take the time to read these with your child and a reflect with them on the efforts they have made this year in their learning. It has been pleasing to see so many children who have made great progress over the year, well done. Next Thursday 13 December is the last day of the 2018 school year for students. School will commence in 2019 for students on Monday 4 February. Class lists will be placed on the windows of the Science Room, Block 3 on Friday 1 February 2019 after 4:00pm. For privacy reasons we ask parents to please not take photos of these and post on social media. Please be aware that staff have used their professional judgement and have put a great deal of thought into class placements based on our class placement policy and no changes will be made to where students have been placed. The uniform shop will be open on Thursday 31 January from 8am 10am and Friday 1 February from 3pm 5pm for parents to purchase new uniforms for the 2019 school year. A reminder that our uniform consists of a red polo shirt and green shorts, pants, skort or skirt, and a green school bucket hat. Black shorts/pants are not part of school uniform. Students are expected to wear school uniform as per our uniform policy and it is one of our PBS expected behaviours. We have a small number of families leaving us at the end of the year and we wish them well in moving to new towns and cities. If you are leaving our school and have not yet informed the front office, please do so by the end of next week. This will assist us in our planning for Thank you. 3 Page 3 School News Student Councillors 2019 Congratulations to our Student Councillors who have just been elected. For 2019 and were announced at our Pursuit of Excellence assembly. They are: Head Boy Declan Poett Head Girl Emily Gadean Councillors: Keira Armstrong, Madison Quick, Ella Siwiecki, Isaac Anning, Frankie Burke and Riley Crowd. These students are looking forward to fulfilling their leadership roles in our school and supporting other students. Battery recycling now at Yakamia PS - Rm 16 Recycle your batteries or printer cartridges Thank You to Albany Dymocks! We would like to thank Deb Congdon and her team at Albany Dymocks for their support of our school through the Dymocks Children s Charities. We received a donation of new books for our library to a value of $1630!! This is a wonderful addition to supporting build our children's love of reading. We will miss working with you and wish you all the best in the future.

7 Page 7 Foodbank Donations Today was our Wear Free Dress for Foodbank day. The students were asked to donate food items for the local Foodbank Christmas Appeal. The items will be made available to families in need over the Christmas period. Thank you to all who supported this appeal.

8 Page 8 P&C News Canteen Volunteers Needed! If you have a few hours to spare on any day from Tuesday to Friday in 2019 we are in urgent need of volunteers to help out in the school canteen. For further information on duties and hours please call the school office on and we will pass your details on to the canteen committee.
