2 Keeping Fit and Healthy with D3 Students from D3 presented an exciting, energetic assembly item on Friday. Students explained the importance of keeping fit and being active and how it helps your concentration at school and keeps your mind and body healthy. Students performed a hip hop dance that they do at school each morning performing this dance they manage to step our 3 kilometres in only 10 minutes! After dancing students are left feeling happy, ready to concentrate and focused for the day ahead. WAYS TO KEEP FIT AND HEALTHY

3 Rivergums Robotics This year Rivergums PS started a Senior Robotics Club. Students from years five and six were invited to apply and sixteen were merit selected. Under the guidance of Mr Tate and Miss Jamieson, students arrived at school early each Tuesday morning (and some lunch times!) to work in teams to construct and code their EV3 Lego robots to complete different tracks and rescue a can (by pushing it out of a green spill zone). Last week they competed in the State Championships of Robocup Junior, where more than 650 people were present. Rivergums Primary School had four teams compete in four rounds, featuring different courses with a variety of obstacles including a seesaw to go up and down, water tower to move around, speedbumps to traverse at lower speed and a bridge to drive under. In between these rounds students had one hour pit time to adjust their robots. Students accomplished these in their teams - with no mentor intervention - by coding sensors to read and react to colours, obstacles and gradients. Teams were competing for a place in the top 8 state finals and we had two teams achieve that goal. On Saturday, teams 3 and 4 returned to Curtin University for the state finals, competing in three rounds with a reduced pit time of 30 minutes. Teams were very competitive and reached the end of each course, however didn't rescue the cans. We were competing for a place in the top 3 for a head to head of three courses, which resulted in two teams heading to the National Championships in Victoria. We achieved an end result of 5th and 8th in this round. We are looking forward to the next year of robotics students in 2019 and competing in the championships again! Miss Jamieson & Mr Tate

5 Year 6 Camp Fundraiser The Year 6 teachers and students would like to express their sincere thanks to all of the parents who gave up their time to assist with the Sausage Sizzle. Just under 300 sausages were cooked, packed and delivered to classes. We raised over $1000 towards our camp meaning we are on track to meet our fundraising goals early! We ll see you for the next one! Sausage sizzle Baldivis Youth Band Last week our students were treated to an inspiring musical performance by Baldivis Youth Band - visiting musicians from other local primary schools, led by Mrs Diana Triscari from Baldivis Primary School. The band played theme songs from popular movies that all of our students enjoyed. The talent was amazing - some students have only been playing this year.

Whilst every effort is made to run to schedule, changes may occur on the day and we may run ahead/behind on times. Please be mindful of this. Parents are welcome to attend both of these events. Students are reminded to wear their faction shirts for ALL carnival events. 7 P & C News P & C FUNDRAISING CO-ORDINATOR The P & C are looking for a new candidate to fill the position of Fundraising Coordinator. If anyone is interested, please Julieanne Bruce at rivergumspandc@yahoo.com SCHOOL DISCO The P & C would like to give a massive thanks to all the families who attended our school disco! We were able to raise over $3,500 for our school. All of our students were very well mannered to our canteen ladies too, which is always appreciated. Thank you also to Arlene and JR Rondael for setting up the photo booth and the lighting for the disco. Thank you also to Mrs Jen Howard for being the Disco DJ. A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who volunteered. Without volunteers we would not be able to hold such successful events. FATHER S DAY STALL Kindy/Pre-Primary Carnival on the 5th of September. CANTEEN NEWS Our canteen proudly supports local family owned businesses. All of our bread and rolls are purchased from Bakers Delight who always supply quality products and provide fantastic service. Please note that we are only selling mini pies, mini sausage rolls and chicken strips on Mondays and Wednesdays. These items are not available on Fridays. As per the WA Canteen Association we follow the Guidelines of the Food Service Traffic Light System. If you can spare any time to volunteer in the canteen, please contact Lorraine Brown or rivergumcanteen@hotmail.com Without volunteers we run the risk of having to reduce our days of operation. Thank you. In Week 7 on the 28th, 29th and 30th of August we will be holding our Father s Day Stall to give your children the opportunity to purchase a gift for a loved one. There will also be a raffle so if you are able to donate a suitable gift please drop it off at the front admin office...any contribution would be greatly appreciated. We are also looking for volunteers to help on Wednesday 29th August, so please contact Bec Leonard via facebook or rivergumspandc@yahoo.com FACTION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Our P & C will be running a cake stall for our Faction Carnival on Friday 31st August. If anyone is able to bake or buy for our stall it would be greatly appreciated. Please bring any donations to the canteen on the morning of the carnival.
