11 I BELIEVE IN SJC Since 1916, St. Joseph s College has been a top pick for students because we provide a nurturing environment and an education that has prepared them for a purposeful life of achievement. SJC consistently garners national recognition in U.S. News & World Report for our commitment to academic excellence and for remaining one of the most affordable private institutions in the New York metropolitan area. Our impressive reputation is a result of the contributions from our alumni, friends, faculty and staff. Donations from alumni are one of the most important means by which the College receives support and funding. Did You Know That Alumni Contributions: Increase student recruitment and retention? Eightyfive percent of SJC students receive financial aid and scholarships a critical factor in their decision-making process to attend St. Joseph s College. Help foster the support of outside donors? Outside donors are encouraged by knowing that alumni believe in the College s mission and continue to give back. Advance academic research, study and initiatives? Delegating funds to a specific program or fund provide support for your chosen area interest. Your Support is Vital to Us! A contribution, no matter the size, is an outward vote of confidence for the institution. Our alumni speak to those outside the community by showing them how much we believe in our mission. Your donation is a representation of the strength of the College and our community of supporters. It is a manifestation of our motto: Esse non videri To be, not to seem. Please join us and make a contribution today. For a full list of scholarships and giving opportunities, visit giving.sjcny.edu. 15 JOB SHADOWING: NOW AVAILABLE ALL YEAR LONG Traditionally facilitated in January, our job shadowing program will be available to students and alumni at any point during the year. This provides an opportunity to incorporate a shadowing experience with a current job and family priorities, while gaining a wider time frame to participate. Note: Due to the nature of some professions, shadowing may not be available in certain industries or only available at certain times during the year. Job Shadowing Experiences are Unique in That They: Provide opportunities to connect with professionals and colleagues in your field of interest. Allow you to visualize yourself in the industry, career and role you are exploring. Enable you to imagine other possibilities outside of your current job or industry. Past Shadowing Experiences Include: Meeting with various medical team members at a counseling practice. Observing the daily projects and workflow of a busy public relations and advertising office. Alumni interested in job shadowing are eligible to participate and will be matched with an SJC alum whenever possible. Shadowing can take place over the course of one day or several, depending on the nature of the experience and the availability of all parties. All interested alumni will need to complete an application that indicates their goals, availability and desired type of experience before a match can be made. For more information, contact the Office of Alumni Engagement. St. Joseph s College SJConnect Office of Alumni Engagement sjcny.edu/alumni Brooklyn: Long Island: alumni@sjcny.edu

16 ALUMNI VOLUNTEERING Alumni Ambassadors Alumni ambassadors act as representatives of St. Joseph s College and help support specific activities that will enhance opportunities for prospective students to learn more about the College. Additionally, ambassadors promote SJC at their places of employment to increase the availability of jobs and internships for SJC students and alumni. Volunteering Alumni Engagement Events A few extra hands make a big difference. Alumni assist us at events by greeting attendees, helping load and unload supplies and by setting up and breaking down events. We always look for alumni to be keynote speakers, panel moderators and workshop facilitators for students and fellow alumni.

17 Campus Ministry The Office of Alumni Engagement continues to maintain a strong relationship with Campus Ministry to be able to offer ongoing opportunities for alumni volunteering that connect with the College s core mission and values. Many students who have participated in service-based projects and trips are now some of our most active and engaged alumni leaders. Make A Difference Day An annual celebration hosted by Campus Ministry on a Saturday in the fall where faculty, staff, students and alumni participate in service projects that directly benefit community members. Past projects include beautifications, beach cleanups and garden revitalizations. Come one, come all! Open Houses, Admitted Student Days and Orientations Our alumni are crucial to helping us connect with potential students. Typically on the weekend, these events are opportunities for you to talk about your education, the faculty who have inspired you and help students realize their potential. Soup Kitchen Volunteers Volunteering is flexible, can be provided by location and is something meaningful for you and your partner, a group of friends, family and/or colleagues to enjoy. Opportunities are available for SJC Brooklyn and SJC Long Island alumni. St. Joseph s College SJConnect Office of Alumni Engagement sjcny.edu/alumni Brooklyn: Long Island: alumni@sjcny.edu
