1 St Patrick s School Newsletter News from the Principal LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION. All is in readiness for the school concert on Thursday. The excitement is beginning to build with regular practice, props completed and costumes being fine tuned. I was delighted to hear the children singing as a whole school yesterday during practice, they did sound wonderful. As well as the teachers leading the class items, we have had the assistance of Tim and Myrawin Nelson who have been overseeing the group songs and doing some recordings and back up tracks for the night. As the children Rock through the Ages, I am looking forward to being take back to the 80 s where I did some of my best work! Spring finally seems around the corner and a reminder to all families to ensure that children are wearing their hats during recess and lunch breaks. Also, please apply some sunscreen prior to school and the children can re-apply as required at school. Although it has been cloudy, the sun s rays can still damage skin so we need to be careful and SUNSMART. Teachers are currently writing school reports and assessing students learning. We have implemented the Smart Spelling program across the school this year with pleasing results. This program is developed to suit the THRASS spelling tool which parents may be familiear with. Each class has spelling lists to work through each week and tests are conducted on these words. With the positive results we are experiencing, we are looking forward to continuing with Smart Spelling next year. I wish all the children and staff the best for Thursday evening. Thanks to Our Lady Help of Christians for allowing us to hire their Performance Hall for the evening and utilising their facilities. This is greatly appreciated. Chookers everyone (That s good luck in performance speak) Michael Please join us at our Rock through the Ages concert this Thursday night. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm sharp and we ask that children are at the venue (Our Lady Help of Christians) at 6:30 pm. Tickets are now available at the school office and will also be available at the venue on the night. The cost is $5 per adult/teen/non primary age, Primary School age and under are FREE.

2 News from the Rooms Year F/1/2 Drum roll from the readers please... it's concert week!!! I wrote a little note in diaries if items were missing from children's costumes can these please come to school tomorrow. On Wednesday children need to come to school in their school uniforms as we will take costumes with us to OLHC and children will get changed there. Children will need to bring a pack lunch and a drink bottle. I will send costumes home with children on Wednesday night. On Thursday night children need to come ready to go ie. in costume, hair done etc. If anyone is unsure of what is happening at any stage please come and see me as there is lots happening!!! We can't wait for you to see our routines, not sure who is excited more me or the children. Year Three/Four This week, just like the rest of the school, we have been busily preparing for our "Rock Through The Ages" Concert. Our 1960's performance is coming along very nicely. We are nervous and excited and we are very much looking forward to the big night. We have also been working towards finishing our Learning Journals for the year. STUDENT OF THE WEEK Angus Newman for working well in small groups and being considerate of others Year Five/Six Every student in our class has been doing a fantastic job in preparing for our school concert. From learning words and dance moves, to making props, they have all been helpful and co-operative and have given their best efforts to make our concert a memorable night. We ask that all school fee payments are up to date for the 2016 school year. Thank you. It is not only amidst our joys and hopes but also in our grief and anguish, Lord, that you are with us. 3 End of Year Dates A short note to confirm the end of year dates. The final day for the children will be Thursday Dec 15th at 3.30 pm. Year 6 Graduation and our Whole School end of year Liturgy will take place from 6pm in St Patrick s Church (All families and children to attend). We then finish with a shared meal (possibly BBQ) at the school with some final farewells and a short Christmas sing-a-long from the School Choir from 7pm.. There will be no school for children in Friday Dec 16th.

Friday 25th November - Orientation Day for 2017 Foundation students - 9am to 1:30 HOT LUNCHES AVAILABLE - FRIDAY 25th November SATURDAY 26th November - BUNNINGS BBQ - All hands on deck for our final P and F fundraiser. Please let the P and F or Julie know what time frame suits you the best. Times run from 8am to 4pm. Monday 14th November - School Advisory Committee meet at St Pats at 6pm Scholastic Book Club orders and payment due back on or before the 17th November. Monday November 28th - AGM - 6pm FRIDAY 2nd December - General school working Bee from 3:30-5:30 Monday 5th December - Bike Ed ride to Moorabool Reservoir for Year 3-6 students. Tuesday 6th December - Year 6 students attend transition day at their 2017 school. FRIDAY 9th December - Geelong Water World excursion for all students. Thursday 15th December - Students final school day for Full day of school, followed by graduation. Thursday 15th December - 6pm - Graduation for Year 6 students and staff farewell evening for all students and families. A REMINDER THAT SCHOOL BANKING IS ON ALL WEDNESDAY S IN TERM 4. Please drop bank books to the school office. ST VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY CHRISTMAS APPEAL THIS YEAR, OUR LOCAL BRANCH OF ST VINCENT de PAUL HAVE ASKED FOR NON PERISHABLE CHRISTMAS ITEMS TO MAKE UP HAMPERS. CHRISTMAS SERVIETTES, BON BONS, SWEETS, SAVOURY ITEMS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO FIND IN YOUR HAMPER. WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT OF PEOPLE IN OUR DISTRICT WHO ARE LESS FORTUNATE THAN OURSELVES.

5 Ned Newman Age: 12 Attending Damascus College in My hobbies are dirt bike riding with my brothers and friends and I also love playing footy with the Gordon Eagles. I hope to be remembered for my helping out around the classroom and for my great manners with other people. I have a talent for playing football for the Gordon Eagles and I hope to play senior football with them one day, as they are the best Club ever. In my spare time I like to muck around outside and build things. My greatest improvement in the classroom is the way I have improved my mathematical skills and this has led to a greater understanding of maths. My happiest memory at school is when I first came here in Year 1 in the fourth term and I met my lifelong friends. My favourite movie is Mad Max Fury Road, as I love all the action it. In the future I would like to visit Los Angeles in America and experience the American culture and I would also like to pursue motocross as a hobby When I grow up I would like to be a builder and work wherever the work is available. I m looking forward to going to high school in 2017 and making new friends.
