1 28 th November Phone: A Message from the Principals Messy Mud Week The students had a great time last week engaging in Messy Mud Week. They behaved themselves wonderfully and the lady in charge commented to me, how delightful and polite all our students were. It is lovely to receive positive feedback from outside people who engage with our students. Well done everyone. Choir Performed at The Canning Lodge Thank you to Mr Davey and choir who performed Christmas Carols to the people that reside at Canning Lodge. The feedback we received was that they had a wonderful time and enjoyed listening to the choir. Next Wednesday the choir will perform at Rowethorpe, we look forward to hearing them perform. Tennis National School of the Year Congratulations to Rhys and all the participants who engaged in the tennis programme. We obviously did a very good job, because last night at the National Tennis Awards we took out first prize. Alicia Molik presented the prize to Rhys and this Thursday Tennis Australia are coming to school to present the prize in front of the students at assembly. Rhys has worked really hard at getting more students involved in after and before school sporting programmes, which is wonderful to see. Students at Riverton have always done well academically, but we have tried to engage more of the students in sporting/ outdoor activities. It is important that students have a balance, and engaging in team sports and physical activity is a perfect way to manage stress and engage with others in a social environment. Japanese Language Teacher of the Year 2018 Congratulations to Terrena Hall for taking out dual first prize as Japanese teacher of the Year. Sensei is a wonderful teacher and the amount of effort and preparation she puts into her programme are astonishing. The students love attending Japanese, and the incursions that she organises and the students that we have from Japan, all make our Japanese programme a rich cultural experience, that allows the students to develop a rich understanding of another culture. Tolerance, acceptance and understandings are wonderful characteristics that our students are privy too. Thank you Sensei, you are magnificent. Wellness Week Next week is Wellness Week, students will be engaging in some activities just for fun, with the onerous being on positive mental health. We are having Wellness Week once per term, and the students seem to really enjoy participating in the activities. End of Year Activities There is a lot going on in the next couple of weeks. Can all students and parents please make sure they keep up to date with outings, incursions, class parties and everything that is going on at this time of the year. Please check in with your child so you are aware of what they are engaging in and if they require anything. Vicki Sturgeon Relieving Principal Riverton Primary School Lea-Anne Frossos Relieving Principal Riverton Education Support Centre Booklist Requirements Collection Several requirement packages were not collected yesterday. Paid packages can be collected from the office, any uncollected packages have been returned to Ziggies.

We are advising you early so that families can arrange care for children. Term 1 Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 January 2018 Term 2 Friday 1 June 2018 Term 3 No PD days Term 4 Monday 8 October 2018 Thursday 13 December 2018 Drop off and Pick up at School This morning we had an unfortunate incident before school where a member of our school community pulled their car into the front gates at the school in order to drop a child off at school. While the car did not enter the gates, the car was obstructing access on the footpath and this put our families trying to access the entrance at school at risk. When the Crossing Attendant approached the driver of the car, the driver abused the Crossing Attendant. The Crossing Attendant was extremely offended and distressed by this interaction. It is disappointing that this message needs to be placed in our newsletter. Access around schools is often problematic at drop off and pick up times, and we need everyone to be mindful of this, as we are all impacted upon. The safety of our children is paramount and we ask that you please be considerate particularly during these times. Offensive and inappropriate behaviour is not acceptable, especially in and around schools. Deputy Principals
