Mrs Paul will be teaching Christian Studies to Transition, Kindergarten and Year 1. A brief note of introduction: Hello everyone. I am from the Central West, having grown up on a farm and settling in Orange. I enjoy spending time with my husband Justin and two children, Macey (5 1/2) Oscar (4). In rare spare moments I enjoy cooking for friends and sewing. I also enjoy catching up with friends and encouraging them in their love of Jesus, and working out what the Bible means for us together. Student Leader Induction On Friday we inducted our new Student Leaders for Congratulations to all the students, we are sure you will do an excellent job! Our leaders are Lily Craig, Jackson Willis, Parneet Kaur and Tom Francis. Our house captains are Hugh Daintith, (Bandhaa) Jack Nunn, (Gugaa) Oliver Bayly, (Biladurang) and DInawan are in a unique situation where three leaders are in their house so they will share the duties. House vice-captains are Charlie Watson, Breanna Rouse and Laura Christie. Little Cakes Roster Little cakes will start again in Week 3. Money raised will be donated to Heart Kids. The carnival will include all students from Years 3 through to Year 11 (8 years to 17+ years age groups). However, Year 2 students who are able to comfortably swim 50 metres should attend and compete. It is necessary to include 8 year olds as this is the entry age for higher level competitions. Parents are very welcome to attend the carnival. There is no charge for spectators to attend the carnival. Open Day at OAGS A new date has been set for our annual Open Day. This year, it will be held on Saturday 5 April and will coincide with the Official Opening of Will s Kitchen Garden. Our event will be listed in the program for

3 F.O.O.D week. If parents, friends or family are interested in holding a stall for Open Day, please contact Carolyn Egan in the Administration Office to make arrangements. We are also interested in a guest speaker for the event. If you have any suggestions, please let the staff in Administration know. Family contact details & Medical Forms Please remember to keep our Administration staff updated with your contact details, especially if you have moved house or changed your emergency contacts during the holidays. All new students should have received and completed a Medical History form. Please ask for one of these forms if you have not received one. A new Medical History form should also be completed for any student who has had a change of medical condition ie developed an allergy, asthma or other condition. Please request a form from any of our Administration staff as a matter of urgency. Bring your sticks and participate in a fun game for all ages. The Orange Colour City Running Festival will be held on the 22 nd and 23 rd of February. As part of the festival there is a 5 km Schools Challenge on Sunday the 23rd. The Schools Challenge gives students a chance to win $500 for their school and bike for themselves.

4 There is a category for both primary and secondary teams. To enter a team OAGS will need a minimum of 5 students in either (or both) the primary and secondary school. Interested students will need to enter the 5 km event separately. Entry costs are $10 for under 13 years and $15 for over 13 years. The school can then submit a team entry form once five students are entered. By entering in the school team a student does not forgo their chance to win individual prizes. Bloomfield Junior Rugby League Club would like to invite you to join up for the 2014 season. Boys of all ages from 5-16 and girls from 5-12 years of age are all welcome. Bloomfield JRLFC will be holding a sign on day on Sunday 23rd February at Orange City Bowling Club from 10am to 2pm. Fees are $100 per player if paid on the day and $110 after this day. Bloomfield socks and shorts are included in registration fees.

6 Safety tips for parents Back to school safety tips for parents and carers Your child s safety depends on you Drop off and pick up by car Make sure your children are in an appropriate child restraint that is fitted and used correctly. Stick to the 40km/h speed limit in a school zone as children are about and can be unpredictable. Look out for buses pulling out watch for wig wag lights. Always park and turn legally around schools and avoid dangerous manoeuvres like U-turns and three point turns. Always give way to pedestrians particularly when entering and leaving driveways. Drop the kids off and pick them up on the school side of the road in your school s designated drop off and pick up area. Calling out to them from across the road can be dangerous because they may run to you without checking traffic. It s safest for the kids to get out of the car on the kerb side of the road to be away from passing traffic. Walking together to and from school Plan your trip to school so you are using pedestrian crossing areas where possible. Always hold your child s hand up until the age of eight. Young children need your help to spot danger like vehicles coming out of driveways. They can also be easily distracted and wander into traffic. Drop off and pick up your child near the school gate and avoid calling them from across the road. Talk to your children about Stop, Look, Listen and Think every time they cross the road. Stop one step back from the kerb. Look for traffic to your right left and right again. Listen for the sounds of approaching traffic. Think whether it is safe to cross. Young children can learn these safe pedestrian habits from you and continue them later on when they are old enough to travel alone. For more information visit roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au
