1 December 16th 2016 Haddon Primary School Principal s Report Our year has come to an end with only Monday left for cleaning up! Students are encouraged to wear old clothes as we plan to move furniture, clean desks and tubs as well as a big tidy of the school yard. We will dismiss students at 3.30 and the normal bus service will be running. Our Movie Day and Christmas party was very well received by students and a big thank you to the parents who coordinated lunch and came along to lend a hand. We have staff to farewell and a new member to welcome! I would like to thank Jessica Vince for all her efforts in P.E. this year and also Lauren McConchie for taking over from Mandy when she took Maternity Leave. This was especially tricky as it was the Concert Week, a big ask. Both Lauren and Jessica have made an enormous contribution to our school and we will all look forward to hearing from them in 2017.I would like to welcome Mr Tom Watson to our school. Tom has supported the 5 & 6 camp both in 2015 and this year. These placements are not random but well thought out by teachers for the best learning opportunity possible. They spent the morning getting to know each other and had a discussion negotiating routines and expectations. In addition to our main curriculum our core focus for 2017 will be on building resilience through our re defined values of Respect, Effort and Positive Attitude. Both learning and emotional resilience are the foundations for growth and we aim to set aspirational goals for students in this space. Could I take this opportunity to thank all our hard working staff for the care and support of our students their dedication goes well beyond expectations and I need to congratulate each of them for this hard work. Working With Children's Check New application process for Victorian applicants As of 5 December 2016, Victorian applicants for the Working with Children Check are able to have their identity securely verified online, reducing the time it takes to finalise their application at a participating Australia Post outlet. Applicants who electronically verify their identity only need to present one photo ID document or card from the list of acceptable proof of identity documents at Australia Post. Electronic identity verification is a fully secure service, as applicants' details are checked by the issuing body, such as VicRoads or Australian Passport Office, and are not retained during the verification process. Applicants who choose not to, or are unable to verify their identity electronically can go to a participating Australia Post outlet with multiple documents from the new list of POI documents and verify in person. Australia Post will take a digital photo of each applicant, free of charge. In conjunction with the new electronic identity verification service the list of acceptable proof of identity (POI) documents has also changed. See the next article 'New proof of identity requirements' for details.

4 EARLY BIRDS This year we trialled an extension to our mornings to assist our Working Families. The Early Birds Program enabled students to be dropped off at school at 8 a.m. for supervision until This service was well used and will continue next year. Please register your child for Early Birds 2017 at the office. There is a gold coin donation for the service which goes towards the purchase of materials. We require annual registration so as to gauge the number of students participating. OSHC After School Care In 2017 we will provide after school care. We are now an approved provider and can offer up to 12 places. Nicole Hardy is the coordinator of the program. There are places still available and the enrolment packs are at the office. Once the 12 positions have been filled we will establish a waiting list. CHESS TOURNAMENT Congratulations to the students who took part in our first Chess Tournament at Haddon Primary School. It was an exciting day with many close matches being played. A big thankyou to Mr Chris Segrave for coordinating the day along with fellow colleague from Ballarat and Clarendon College Mr Ben Naughton. Thank you also to Mr Rob Bailey who instructed the students on some of the Chess moves and strategies. We look forward to holding another tournament in This years winners are- 1st Dylan Worthy Equal 2nd Will Ross & Jack Gregory Girls Medal Winner is Alysha O Connor.
