2 Requirements for Clinic Each boy is required to have the following items with them for the clinic. Packed lunch for each day PT kit ( PT Shorts, PT shirt, Blue socks, Gum guard and shin pads) N.B Shin pads are compulsory Hockey sticks Monday 07 July 2014 Integrated day Grade 4: Hockey trials and Tennis Grade 4 boys who will not be playing hockey for St Benedict s will participate in Tennis during the integrated day sessions. Dress code for integrated day and afternoon hockey practices: St Benedict s PT uniform, long royal blue socks with no stripes, shin pads and a gum guard will be compulsory for all boys to wear during all hockey practice sessions and matches. Boys will not be allowed to partake in any hockey activities without these items. Hockey safety: All Bennies hockey boys from Grade 3 7 will not be allowed to play hockey and swing their hockey sticks around during school time or before practices without the coaches supervision as accidents might occur. Hockey boys will also not be allowed on the astro hockey field before scheduled hockey practice times or without the presence of the hockey coaches. Afternoon practices Grade 3 Hockey trials will be held on the hockey astro turf field, 14h15 15h15. Grade 3 hockey boys and Cross Country boys will be fetched by their coaches from the Junior Prep School at 14h00. The Cross Country boys who finished their hockey practice will be accompanied by their coaches and commence with their Cross Country practice directly after the hockey practice. It is very important for all Grade 3 boys who wish to play for the School hockey teams to attend each and every trial session to qualify for team selection. If a boy cannot attend a practice session due to medical conditions or any reason whatsoever a proper note signed by his parents must be handed in to Mr. Flude. Dress code for hockey practices and matches; St Benedict s PT kit, Long Royal blue socks with no stripes and shin pads must be worn (no shin pads, no play!). It will also be compulsory for hockey boys to wear a Gum guard when participating in hockey activities. We would like to encourage boys to bring along their own hockey sticks, but if a boy does not have a hockey stick, the School will provide him with one. Grade 3 hockey matches will be played over a quarter hockey field, 7-A-side. Teams will be selected as follows as per the Independent boys Schools sport regulations; U/9 A, U/9 B A and U/9 mixed ability teams. Cross Country practice will be held for all Top 25 Cross Country boys from Grade 3 7 on the College fields next to the hockey astro turf field, 15h15 16h00. It will be compulsory for all boys who qualified under the top 25 positions at the Inter House Cross Country event to attend all scheduled afternoon practice sessions. If a boys cannot attend a practice session due to medical conditions or any reason whatsoever a letter signed by his parents must be handed in to Mr. Muller. If a boy has not made the Top 25 list during the Inter House Cross Country event and is he still keen and determined to improve, he is more than welcome to also attend the Cross Country practices to improve his fitness levels and improve his running position/time. Dress code for practices and Cross Country meetings; Blue and Red St Benedict s Athletics vest and St Benedict s PT shorts. White trainers and full St Benedict s tracksuit will be compulsory for arrival at Cross Country meetings. Boys may run barefoot during their Cross Country races at other Schools. Ravens Winter league cricket practices The U/13 ravens winter league cricket practice will be held at the outdoor astro cricket nets from 16h00 17h30.

Friday 11 July 2014 Junior and Senior Inter house soccer The Junior and Senior Inter House soccer will take place from 10h00 12h00 on the College hockey fields. The Junior section will consist out of two teams per house of 14 players per team (Grade 4 and 5 boys). The senior section will consist out of two teams per house of 14 players per team (Grade 6 & 7 boys).

4 RULES: Normal rules of soccer will be applied except there will be NO off-sides. The format will be 7-a side (1 goal keeper and 6 out). A maximum of 14 players per team. Rolling substitutes allowed. Points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw. There will be no finals the winners will be decided after all the games with points determining the winning house. The Juniors will be playing on the Astroturf which will be split in 4. (please note you MUST wear takkies and NOT soccer boots) The Seniors will play on the grass hockey fields which will be split up to create 4 fields. The games will be 10 minutes long with a 5 minute break in between games to allow for rest as each team will be playing every game. Cross Country meeting at Stithian s (40 Peter Place, Lyme Park, Sandton) Grade 3 Cross Country boys involved will be fetched by their coaches from the Junior Prep School at 12h15. The bus will depart from the College parking area at 12h30 and return at approximately 16h45. All boys must please be fetched by their parents from the College parking area or from St Stithian s directly after their race. The first race (U/9) will start at approximately 14h15. The other races will follow and the starting time will depend on the duration of the first race. Races usually take minutes to complete. Dress code for practices and Cross Country meetings; Blue and Red St Benedict s Athletics vest and new St Benedict s PT shorts. White trainers and full St Benedict s tracksuit will be compulsory for arrival at Cross Country meetings. Boys may run barefoot during their Cross Country races at other Schools.

5 Saturday 12 July 2014 PIPE BAND GATHERING AT STBENEDICT S 2014 St Benedict s Under 11 Invitational Tennis Festival Order of Play Arrival: All players must please aim to arrive at St Benedict s College by 11h30. All Tennis players, parents and managers must please use the Dean Road entrance (south side of the Hockey astro turf). There is a Pipe Band Gathering and you will be charged R20 per person, should you decide to use the Main Entrance, in Harcus Road. The players can warm up while we wait for everyone to arrive. Opening Ceremony: This is planned to start at 12h00. First Round (to start at about 12h15): St Stithians versus Fairland Courts: 2,6 Jan Celliers versus Cornwall Hill Courts: 3,7 St Benedict s versus St John s Courts: 4,8 Followed by: Cornwall Hill versus St John s Courts: 2,6 Fairland versus St Benedict s Courts: 3,7 St Stithians versus Jan Celliers Courts: 4,8 Sunday 13 July St Benedict s Under 11 Invitational Tennis Festival Order of Play Play is scheduled to start promptly at 8h00. There is no Pipe Band Gathering today, so you can use the usual Harcus Road entrance. Please arrive at 7h30, so that the players can warm up. The U/9 & U/10 hockey teams will be divided as follows; U/9 A, B & mixed ability teams, U/10 A, B & mixed ability teams. These teams will follow the 7-A-side hockey format where they play over a quarter of a hockey field. The U/11 age group will play the normal 11-A-side hockey format over a full hockey field. The U/11 B and C hockey team will follow the 8-A-side hockey format and the rest of the U/11 boys will also follow the 8-A-side format and play as mixed ability teams. The U/12 & U/13 hockey age groups will be separated as per the Independent School sporting structures. The U/12 & U/13 teams will be divided as follows; U/13 A, U/13 B, U/13 C, U/12 A, U/12 B & U/12 C. The only exception will be made where a U/12 boy is good enough to play for the 1ST (U/13 A). All boys from Grade 3 7 who will be participating in Hockey must always wear a gum guard and shin pads to all practices and matches. All hockey boys from Grade 3 7 will not be allowed to practice, play and swing their hockey sticks around prior to their practice as careless injuries may occur. Hockey boys will only be allowed onto the training field to start their hockey training upon arrival of their hockey coaches. It will be compulsory for all boys who will be playing hockey to attend all afternoon training sessions. Register will be taken by the coaches at each and every afternoon practices session. Boys who do not attend weekly afternoon practice sessions will not be eligible for team selection and match participation. If a boy cannot attend a weekly afternoon training session due to illness, any medical situation or any reason whatsoever a proper letter signed by his parents must be submitted to Mr. Flude. All boys from grade 3 7 will participate in either hockey or Tennis during the Integrated day sports sessions. All boys will be encouraged to participate in the pre- season hockey training during the Integrated day sessions. Hockey will be the main sporting code for this period. We would like to encourage boys to bring along their own hockey sticks, but if a boy does not have a hockey stick, the School will provide him with one. General Sports Information; It is the responsibility of all Bennies boys from Grade 4 7 to check the sports notice board outside the new sports office for team inclusion and match or fixture information. It is very important for all boys to be neatly and correctly dressed for all Sports fixtures against other Schools as well as for all weekly practice sessions.

7 Congratulations; Congratulations to the 1 ST Rugby team and the U/10 A rugby team for the great team achievements at the recent Golden Lions B2 league finals held at Florida. The 1 ST rugby team made it to the finals where they beat Laerskool Gerrit Marritz The U/10 A rugby team narrowly lost their final match against Laerskool Delville These boys displayed incredible team work, dedication and fought very hard until the last minute. Well done to all these boys and their coaches. Important dates; The Grade 3 photo day will be held on Tuesday 15 July 2014 at the Junior Prep School from 12h00 for all Grade 3 boys. Boys will not be included in the team photos with the incorrect sport attire. The U/11 and U/12 rugby boys will be selected to attend the East Rand rugby trials which will be held at Laerskool Generaal Alberts on Wednesday 23 July The rugby boys involved will receive trial invitation letter in the near future. The final U/11 and U/12 East rand rugby trials will be held at Laerskool Generaal Alberts on Monday 28 July 2014 for the boys who qualified and were selected at the first round of trials. The Johannesburg East cricket trials will be held at St Benedict s on the following dates; 28 July U/11, 29 July U/10, 30 July U/12, 31 July U/13. The St Benedict s Prep School cricket trials will be held in the Outdoor Astro cricket nets for the selection of the cricket tour teams who will be touring to Cape Town (1 ST ) and Kwazulu Natal (U/10 A and U/11 A). The tour cricket trials will be held during the integrated day sessions of the following dates. It will be compulsory for all boys who will be attending the tour cricket trials to attend both trial sessions to be eligible for team selection. If a boy cannot attend due to any medical condition, a letter from his parents must be signed and handed in to Mr. Muller. U/10 A cricket trials; 28 July and 4 August U/11 A cricket trials; 29 July and 5 August 1 ST team cricket trials; 31 July 07 August Thursday 31 July 2014: U/13 A Knock-out cup quarter final vs King David Linksfield at Marks Park Protea (Wits University fields) Water polo trials will be held for Grade 6 and 7 Water polo boys on 16 and 17 July 2014 at the Indoor swimming pool for the selection of the U/13 A Water polo team who will be touring to Cape Town, SACS in October. Easterns Water polo Information Dear Parents Please take important notice of the Water polo information received from the Easter Gauteng Water polo Association.

8 Eastern Gauteng Waterpolo would like to extend an invitation to all Swimmers, Water Polo Players and potential Water polo players to join us for squad training on the following days: Mondays under 13 and 14 boys and girls - Time 18h00 to 20h00 Boksburg North Thursdays under 15 and above boys and girls - Time 18h00 to 20h00 Boksburg North Sundays under 13 and 14 boys and girls - Time 09h00 to 11h00 Boksburg North Sundays under 15 and above boys and girls - Time 11h00 to 13h00 Boksburg North These sessions are open to beginners and advanced players, EVERYBODY IS WELCOME. From these sessions we will then go into trials early September to select the teams that will participate at the SA Schools tournament early December 2014, this tournament will be held in Gauteng. Cost for the above training will be:- Pay as you train R30 week nights R20 Sunday sessions Training to start on Sunday 14 th June PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Squad sessions are NOT compulsory but are STRONGLY encouraged. Squad sessions are OPEN to any boy/girl who falls under Eastern Gauteng water polo. Squad sessions are not formal trials but rather, guided preparation for trials in September. Squad sessions are not affiliated to any school/club whatsoever. We aim to have a squad session at least once a week during the off-season, with training sessions increasing to twice a week after the winter break.
