4 Fine Arts Gala Night: St. Dominic School Council asks you to hold the date of May 10 so that your family and friends can attend the Gala Night. Displays of art, performances of music and dance, and a chance to own one of the small murals that our students and artist Dean Stanton painted! Sister Madeleine of Faithful Companions of Jesus visited our school on Thursday, April 12. She worked with each class on how to pray. We all learned. Ask your student what Sr. Madeleine taught him or her!

5 On Tuesday, April 10 at Bishop Carroll, St. Dominic s Dance Team performed in the DanceWorks 2018 Showcase. 8 of our 20 Dance Club members showed up to perform that night and these young students did an amazing job. Coached by our Grade 3 teacher, Mrs. Yu and our Assistant Principal, Ms. Murphy, they performed to the song So Much More Than This by Grace VanderWaal.

6 Jersey Thursday for Humboldt In response to the tragic bus crash in Saskatchewan that claimed the lives of 16 members of Humboldt s Broncos team, all schools in Calgary Catholic School District participated in showing support. Gary Strother, our Chief Superintendent, provided us with a prayer that the Principal, Mrs. Deetz, shared with all the classes at St. Dominic in our morning prayers. Here is the prayer: Ever-loving God, author of life and source of hope, grant that the members of the Humboldt Broncos, who tragically died on route to a hockey game, may know your mercy and enter into the fullness of life that you have prepared for them in the company of all the saints. Bring your consolation to all who mourn for them, especially their family members and team mates. May their hearts and minds be filled with happy memories and may they find comfort and support in one another. Heal the injured and bring them peace. Help them to recall and celebrate the camaraderie they shared. Keep the flame their passion for sports, life, and joy and help them to move beyond this loss. Bless the community of Humboldt and all hockey families. Grant them courage to journey through the days ahead and guide their steps. May they go forth with trust and live in the joy and love of your abiding presence. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

7 All students and staff were invited to participate in wearing a sports jersey or the colors green or gold on Jersey Thursday, and to donate a loonie or toonie. Mr. Strother, Chief Superintendent, shared that Any funds to support the Humboldt Broncos Tragedy raised by our schools and work sites will be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation Inc. We have spoken directly with them and learned that as a result of their experiences during the recent tragedy, they have decided to fundraise for Virtual Medical Conferencing equipment for the Emergency Room at the Humboldt Hospital. This equipment will allow doctors at any other location to view patients and guide medical personnel when stabilizing patients, often for transport to a larger centre like Saskatoon, as was the case for the victims in the recent accident. In addition, they also see a use for these facilities to allow local patients to access mental health supports outside of Humboldt. During the recent tragic incident, the hospital staff really saw the need for this type of set up become apparent. Many patients needed to be transported and there was, and will continue to be, a significant need for mental health supports that exceed available resources within the smaller town of Humboldt (population 6,000). St. Dominic s responded with great enthusiasm. Every classroom was filled with sports jerseys and the colors of green and gold. Two brothers made yellow and gold ribbon pins for their classes and the front office staff. Mr. Strother set our District goal for donations at $55,000 which would represent $1 for each of the 55,000 students in Calgary Catholic School District. St. Dominic raised over $ from our 260 students, their families and our staff. Thank you to everyone that participated. Once again, St. Dominic rises to the challenge in a caring and loving way.
