Je peux Recognise, name and spell some common French verbs/activities. Use these to convey meaning by matching them to pictures. Use these verbs in the infinitive with Je peux. Grammar Definite and Indefinite Articles Les instruments Name ten instruments in French. Match new words to the appropriate picture. Use the correct gender for each new word. Say that which instrument you play. Summer Term Phonics - Les Accents Begin to understand how each of the four French accents influence the sound of the letter. As-tu un animal? Christmas in France Spring Term Grammar Partitive Articles Learn the equivalent of our English word SOME and begin to understand which one to use and when. Phonics - Les accents Revise and develop understanding of how each of the four French accents influence the sound of the letter. Le chemin de l école On the way to school map skills. Following and giving directions. To listen attentively and understand more complex phrases and sentences. Develop accuracy in pronunciation and intonation. Christmas in France. Spring Term Les verbes irreguliers Recognise and understand what a verb and pronoun are in both English and French and be able to say what the key personal pronouns are in French. Conjugate in French the irregular verb AVOIR. Conjugate in French the irregular verb ÊTRE. Conjugate in French the irregular verb ALLER. Conjugate in French the irregular verb FAIRE. Les Planetes Name and recognise the planets in French on a solar system map. Spell at least five of the planets in French. Say an interesting fact about at least four of the planets. Explain the rules of adjectival agreement clearly in French and apply when using colours to describe objects. Grammar Adjectival Agreement Revise and understand how adjectives change spelling and pronunciation to match the gender and plurality of the noun they are describing. Summer Term Grammar - The Definite and the Indefinite article Recognise and understand the use for definite and indefinite articles in both English and French and be able to say what they are in French. Grammar Possessive Adjectives Develop understanding of the equivalent of our English word MY Understand that the version we use is dependent on the gender and plurality of the noun we are talking about. Look for cognates and highlight key words when learning how to decode longer text in gist listening and reading in French. Say the nouns in French for key sports in the modern Olympic games. Understand the concept of de la, de l and du when you say you play a sport in French. Listen to a more extended text and respond appropriately, e.g. agree or disagree. Express opinions and engage in conversation about a familiar topic. Use knowledge of pronunciation to tackle less familiar words. Prepare a short presentation for performance. Read some short texts containing familiar vocabulary. Develop a range of vocabulary, e.g. by using dictionaries to find new words on a given topic. Write phrases and simple sentences from memory, e.g. write some personal information in an or letter. Give more detailed descriptions both orally and in writing. Know how to conjugate some high frequency verb forms. Year 6 Autumn Grammar - Les verbes regulieres Recognise and explain what a pronoun is in English and know the French equivalent. Begin to conjugate regular er, ir and re verbs La Deuxieme Guerre Mondiale Group unknown vocabulary to help decode in French. Improve listening and reading skills. Name the countries and languages involved in WW2. Say some differences between life in the city and in the countryside during WW2. Integrate new language with existing to write a letter home as a refugee.
