1 Yellow Level Overview
2 Studyladder Spelling Program The Studyladder Spelling program is a sequential whole school program catering for primary students between the age of 5 and 12. Each Level in the Studyladder program provides grade appropriate activities for teaching and learning. Areas covered across the Whole School Spelling Program include: Phonics, Vocabulary Enrichment, Language Rules and Conventions, Word Usage and Etymology. Studyladder Levels are arranged by colour in the following order: Yellow Level, Red Level, Orange Level, Blue Level, Green Level, Brown Level, Black Level. The Yellow Level program consists of the following features: 1) Introductory Videos that demonstrate skills and introduce new knowledge. Videos demonstrate sounding out techniques to assist student under standing of phonics. 2) Online Practice activities that include Word and Picture Matching to help students understand vocabulary and Look, Cover, Write techniques to help students recognise and use correct spelling. 3) Printable Activity Sheets that allow students to practice writing correct letter formations while practising correct spelling. 4) Online Test Activities that allow teachers/parents to keep records of student progress. Order of Teaching: The Yellow Level program is sequential, introducing phonic relationships in the following order: 1) Letter groups s, a, t, p, making CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) pattern words with these letters. 2) Letter groups I, n, m, d, making CVC pattern words with these letters. 3) Letter groups g, o, c, k, making CVC pattern words with these letters. 4) Letter groups e, u, r, ck, making CVC pattern words with these letters. 5) Letter groups h, b, f, l, making CVC pattern words with these letters. 6) Letter groups ff, ll, ss,, making CVC pattern words with these letters. 7) Letter Groups j, v, w, x, z, making CVC pattern words with these letters 8) Word Families using CVC combinations of letters above and introduction of basic High Frequency Sight Words Recommended Supplementary Class Activities: Tactile activities such as writing letters on chalk boards, manipulating letters on magnet boards to form words, making playdough letters to form words, playing alphabet flashcard activities. Oral Games that encourage students to hear rhyming words, playing games that require students to listen for the middle sound, beginning sound, final sound in CVC words.
