When the bus finally came, it was crowded, so he had to stand for the thirty-minute ride. As he arrived at his first class, late and soaking wet, he feels that it was the worst day of his life.

2 Lab Assignment 9: Pronoun Agreement and Form It's important to remember that most pronouns change depending on whether they are the subject or the object in a sentence. For each subject pronoun listed below, write in its object form. The first row has been done for you. This is called "pronoun agreement." To practice correct pronoun agreement, please complete the following exercises. 1. Provide three examples of indefinite pronouns and explain whether they are considered plural or singular. 2. Write a sentence that contains a disagreement in number between a pronoun and the noun that it represents. Then correct that sentence. To connect adverb (dependent) clauses that precede independent clauses. 3. To set apart nonessential adjective clauses. 4. To set apart nonessential appositives. Insert the nine commas that have been left out of the paragraphs below. My English teacher Ms. Gonzales asked me to find three articles for my next essay assignment. My paper which will deal with solar energy is a fairly easy one to research. I found fourteen articles in less than an hour and almost all of these articles appear to be credible and useful. Some of these articles were online, but most can be found only in a hard copy of the magazine. Once I figured out which articles I needed it didn't take me long to go to the library and find them. Even though I only needed three articles I ended up copying several more than that. Then I showed them to my best friend Angela who is an English major. Angela showed me how to choose the three most useful articles for my paper, so now I am confident that I have selected good sources for my next essay. I hope that Ms. Gonzales agrees.

4 Lab Assignment 12: Apostrophes This semester, you studied four uses of the apostrophe. Please list them below and provide an example to illustrate each correct use. You also studied when NOT to use an apostrophe. Below, list the two most common errors that people make in overusing apostrophes. Apostrophe exercise Edit the paragraphs below to correct the seventeen apostrophe errors. (There are unnecessary apostrophes as well as missing ones.) American's attitudes toward flying have changed since the industry was deregulated. In the day's when fares and routes were strictly regulated, airlines could compete with each other only in terms of each airlines service and convenience. Customers preference for airlines was often decided by the quality of meal service. Coach passengers meals on international flights were often rather elegant, more like first-class passengers meals today. I can remember their serving three-course meals with free wine on linen tablecloths to coach customer's. Many airplanes on international flights had a passengers lounge with armchairs, couches, and an open bar for everyones use. In the world of todays deregulated industry, things are very different. Deregulations main effect was to force airlines into direct, open competition. Since airline companies revenue is directly related to the number of passengers they carry, airlines began cutting prices to ensure that every planes seats were full on every flight. The more full the flight, the more profitable it was. Airlines concerns about passengers comfort quickly became a thing of the past. Offering the lowest fare means that airlines have to cut costs at every turn. One of the fare wars first casualties was meal service. Southwest Airlines even jokes about it's "two-course" meals pretzels and peanuts.

Over fifty studies in the past decade have found that people have a psychological need for plants. This need will make it especially challenging for people to thrive in urban areas. In many of the studies depressed people who live in cities mentioned the absence of parks in his/her neighborhood. This is one reason that its so important to maintain green spaces such as San Franciscos Golden Gate Park. My mother who recently moved to New York had wrote me a letter saying, "I didnt realize how important trees were to your dad and I until we moved to a place where concrete covered everything. For the first two months, we felt like we were drowning in a sea of cement." New York which is famous for its skyscrapers is a difficult environment for plants because the soil is covered with buildings and pavement. There were few places for plants to grow and the plants that do sprout are often damaged by pollution. Some plants had been more sensitive to pollution than others. For example, snapdragons cant thrive in polluted air. When a landscaper works in an urban area they must considered each plant's chances for survival under the difficult growing condition's of the city streets.
