2 French As A Second Language: Grade 2 Overall Expectations By the end of Grade 2, students will: 2f1 Respond to oral activities following a model using simple phrases and sentences; 2f2 Listen to and talk about short simple oral texts, using materials such as books, audio cassettes and charts and respond to simple questions in order to demonstrate understanding; 2f3 Read a variety of very simple materials containing basic learned vocabulary; 2f4 Write short, very simple texts following a model; 2f5 Identify and use the vocabulary and the language conventions appropriate for this grade level; Specific Expectations By the end of Grade 2 students will: Oral Communication 2f6 Follow basic 2-step classroom instructions 2f7 Ask very simple routine classroom questions 2f8 Use visual and verbal cues to understand what they hear following repetition (e.g. gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice) 2f9 Use some conventions of oral language (e.g. pronunciation, intonation) to speak in rehearsed contexts 2f10 Listen and respond to French recordings during various group and independent activities 2f11 Use simple greetings and phrases of courtesy in appropriate situations 2f12 Respond to questions about a story, song or film using very simple French and gestures 2f13 Respond in French to very simple French questions (e.g. Quel est ton nom?, Où est?, Qui est-ce?) 2f14 Follow 2-step directions involving body movement and body parts 2f15 Imitate voice intonation of phrases and sentences using more complex structures 2f16 Participate in group and/or individual saying of short, simple rhymes, chants and prayers 2f17 Role play using mime, English and/or French 2f18 Converse using simple French sentences or some French words in English sentences. 1
