7 Exercise 8 Word Choice 4 Read these first draft paragraphs from an opinion essay. The topic for this assignment was to tell whether or not you like superheroes in movies. Below are the introductory and first body paragraphs for the assignment. 4 Identify words or phrases that could be improved. Look for verbs, nouns, or adjectives that could be made more specific and stronger. Find at least five (5) changes you can make. 4 Use editing marks to indicate where you would delete and add different words or phrases. 4 Reread the paragraph using your word choice changes. I like superheroes in movies for two reasons. Most superheroes look and live like normal people, but they do exciting things and they use their brains to get people out of dangerous situations. Often movie superheroes don t seem to have special superhuman powers. They usually dress in shirts and ties and go to work at regular jobs. Most live in regular houses or apartments in cities. However, as soon as movie superheroes hear about someone in trouble, they put on special clothes and move fast to take care of the problem. 4 Use a thesaurus or refer to the Student Text for ideas for words or information.
