3 Course Objectives This is a summary of the objectives for level B1. A comprehensive list can be found in the Common European Framework of Reference. The objectives describe what a participant should be able to do in the language at the end of a level B1 course. Listening Comprehension (LC) Able to understand some of the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Sometimes able to understand the main point of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest when the delivery is relatively slow and clear. Reading Comprehension (RC) Able to understand the gist of most texts that consist mainly of high frequency every day or job-related language. Able to partially understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters. Spoken Interaction (SI) Able to deal with some situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Able to enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events) to a limited extent. Spoken Production (SP) Able to connect phrases in a simple way in order to give a limited description of experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions. Able to briefly give limited, rehearsed reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. Able to give a limited acount of events and a simple description of reactions. Written Production/Interaction (WP/WI) Able to write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest with a number of errors. Able to write very simple personal letters describing experiences and impressions.
