2 EARTH Grade 5 Astronomy 1. Planets (3.1.7.B), (3.4.7.D) Compare planets characteristics, (e.g. diameter, distance from sun, and existing moons). Model elliptical orbits. (3.1.7.B) 2. Gravity (3.4.7.D) (3.4.7.D) Identify gravity as the force governing movement of the universe, solar system, moon and objects on Earth. Earth s Interior and Surface Earth s Waters Environmental Weather and Climate 3. Rotation and Revolution (3.4.7.D) Differentiate between rotation and revolution. Model rotation and revolution. 4. Moon (3.4.7.D) Discriminate between lunar and solar eclipses. Demonstrate how the same side of the moon is always visible from Earth. 5. Technology (3.4.7.D) Identify equipment and instruments that explore the universe, (e.g. satellites, rocketry). Explore contributions of past and present day scientists in the field of astronomy. Systems (3.1.7.A), (3.1.7.B) Identify seven systems of the human body: CIRCULATORY, DIGESTIVE, ENDOCRINE, SKIN, EXCRETORY, REPRODUCTIVE, and RESPIRATORY. Identify the parts/organs of each system. Differentiate between and provide examples of physical changes and chemical changes. Identify elements as the basic building blocks of matter that cannot be broken down chemically. 2. Measurement (3.4.7.A) Utilize the metric system to measure length, mass and temperature.
