2 Purpose: To provide general information about 6th grade and the Murphy registration process. We will not be able to discuss specific questions relevant to only your student during this meeting. However, you may contact Mrs. Allcron at to discuss your particular concerns.

8 REGISTRATION CARD Your registration cards are due back to your 5 th grade teacher on January 24, 2017

9 Physical Education (P.E.) Travis Ragsdale, Athletic Director 6 th grade will have two semesters. You need 4 semesters of P.E./Athletics before you leave Murphy Middle Between 7 th & 8 th grade, you must take 2 more semesters. Everyone wears a uniform.

11 Fine Art Selection ELECTIVES: Select ONE of the fine art subjects you would like to take in sixth grade. If you choose Orchestra, please put a 1 and a 2 by your top 2 preferences for instruments. If you choose Band, please put a 1, 2, and 3 by your top 3 preferences for instruments. 12 Honors Classes Classes which are at an accelerated pace. Must qualify for Honors classes 6 th Grade Honors Math

13 Extra Core Class Power Math A supplemental math class will be offered for students needing extra help.

14 Plano Academic and Creative Education PACE Goal: to provide a challenging learning environment that nurtures the unique potential of gifted and talented students. Project Based Learning Curriculum Emphasis on Humanities (Philosophy, Theatre, Music, Dance, Art, Architecture, Literature) Open enrollment in the spring is based on testing, teacher recommendations, grades, and student initiative.

16 How long do I have to get to each class? 4 MINUTES ALL OF THE MATH, LA/READING, SOCIAL STUDIES, AND SCIENCE CLASSES ARE IN THE SAME AREA YOU CAN DO IT!

17 Lunch We have 3 lunches at Murphy- A,B,C 6 TH grade is A Lunch Each lunch lasts 30 minutes Students will begin the year in the cafeteria assigned to tables according to their 4 th period class. As a class, students will have the opportunity to sit at a table of their choosing once procedures are learned and consistently demonstrated.

19 HELPFUL HINTS Tutorials are a positive means to keep up with the curriculum and help students succeed. Monitor your student s grades via parent viewer at

20 HELPFUL HINTS Check student planners for tests, quizzes, project timelines, etc. Teacher addresses and phones numbers will be sent home when school starts and are on the school web page.
